This flyer was created t give yu an verview f the German Internatinal Abitur (DIA) and what is t cme during the fur semesters in grades 11 and 12. It is based n the DIA rules and regulatins. In the interest f clarity, nt every ptentially ccurring circumstance will be cnsidered here. AvH is the nly German schl in Canada ffering students the ptin f cmpleting Grade 12 and earning the DIA. The final Abitur mark is a cmbinatin f the results frm the Abitur exams and grades frm all fur semesters. Hlding a DIA-diplma in yur hands, yu will be able t study at German, Canadian and internatinal universities. Just like at ther high schls in Québec, yu will als receive the Diplôme d études secndaires after the 11 th grade, which will qualify yu t study at any CEGEP cllege. 4 Alexander vn Humbldt - Deutsche Internatinale Schule Mntreal III. Subjects In grade 11 and 12 we have elevated-level subjects (German, Mathematics, English and French). These subjects are being taught n a higher level with higher expectatins. All ther subjects are basic-level subjects which are being taught n a regular German high schl level. IV. Written Exams (Klausuren) During the 1 st (11.1), 2 nd (11.2) and 3 rd (12.1) semesters, there will be tw exams per subject in the elevated-level subjects each semester. The basic-level subjects have ne exam per subject (except Sprts, which has n exams). A mandatry examinatin f the speaking and listening cmpetence areas will take place in the freign languages (English and French) during grade 11 instead f a secnd written exam. In the 4 th semester (12.2), there will be ne exam per subject. The length f the written exams is at least 90 minutes. Fr the calculatin f the semester grade, the weighting f the in-class perfrmance t exams is 1:1. A timetable will be arranged fr all the exams at the beginning f each semester. V. Abitur Exam Subjects At the beginning f the 3 rd semester (12.1) the students will select their Abitur exam subjects. The subjects must cver all subject areas mentined in the weekly lessn plan (II.) Arts and Languages Scial Science Mathematics and Science German English French Histry Plitics and Ecnmics Ethics Mathematics Bilgy Chemistry Physics Arts and Sprts cannt be selected as Abitur exam subjects. There will be three written exams (exam 1-3): - German is the first written exam (mandatry). - The secnd written exam is Mathematics, English r French - The third exam can be chsen frm English, French, Mathematics, Sciences r Scial Sciences. The duratin f the written exams is: - 4 full hurs fr German, Languages and Mathematics. - 3 full hurs fr Histry, Plitics & Ecnmics, Bilgy, Chemistry and Physics.

5 Alexander vn Humbldt - Deutsche Internatinale Schule Mntreal There will be tw ral exams (exam 4-5): - Can be chsen frm all nn-written exam subjects except Arts and Sprts. - The 4 th exam subject takes 20 minutes. - The 5 th exam subject als takes 20 minutes and can be a cllquium, debate r presentatin. IMPORTANT: - All semester grades f the exam subjects have t be taken int calculatin f the final Abitur mark. - Only ne bilingual and ne freign-language subject can be chsen. VI. Qualificatin The verall Abitur mark E is calculated by cmbining tw different parts: Q and A (see next page). The fllwing rules and regulatins are mandatry t qualify fr and btain the Abitur. What is in part Q: - Ttal f 36 semester grades divided by 36 and then multiplied by 40 - All grades f the Abitur exam subjects. - German: all 4 semester grades are mandatry. - Mathematics: all 4 semester grades are mandatry. - English, French, Bilgy, Chemistry, Physics: At least 14 semester grades. Including at least 4 semester grades in a language. Including at least 4 in the sciences. N single semester grade can be added. - Histry, Plitics & Ecnmics and Ethics: Cmbinatin f at least 4 semester grades. Must include at least 2 semester grades in Histry. - Arts: at least 3 semester grades are mandatry. - Sprts: a maximum f 3 semester grades. - A minimum f 200 pints is mandatry. - N mre than seven failings (< 5 pints). - N grade can be 0 pints. What is in part A: - Results f the five Abitur exams (quadruple weighting f the pints). - A minimum f 100 pints is mandatry. - At least 3 exams with 5 r mre pints (including ne elevated-level subject).
