1 Students Placement Office, IIT Kanpur Student Placement Plicy (Year ) Plicy The placement plicy will be applicable t all students registered fr the campus placements f IIT Kanpur and is t be fllwed fr the entire duratin f the placement seasn. Placement activities perfrmed by SPO is a service extended t graduating students and des nt carry any guarantee n securing a jb pprtunity. Eligibility and Registratin 1. All full time registered students f IIT Kanpur expected t cmplete his/her degree by July 2018 (final year f respective degree level) is eligible t register with SPO fr placement services. Exceptins fr this are listed belw Spnsred students, i.e. students wh have signed any bnd fr pursuing studies at the IIT Kanpur, must prduce a N Objectin Certificate frm the cncerned authrities/agencies prir t registering with SPO. Students enrlled under QIP prgram must prduce a N Objectin Certificate frm the cncerned authrities if they intent t register fr placements with SPO. With hlding f infrmatin frm SPO will result in cancellatin f registratin f these students. Disciplinary actins as per SPO/Institute guidelines will be initiated against these students. Full time students enrlled in MS research prgram must submit a guarantee letter frm their academic/thesis advisr n expected time f cmpletin f research/thesis wrk t be eligible fr registratin. 2. Registratin fees fr SPO will be Rs. 1500/-. Registratin fees submitted by students is nn-refundable and is applicable nly fr the current academic year Registratin fees shuld be submitted thrugh SBI I-cllect under the head SPO registratin E-receipts f fees submitted shuld be prduced at the time f filing yur registratin 3. Every student wh is registering fr placement services thrugh SPO MUST sign a cntract stating their willingness t cntribute 2 percent f the first year s Take Hme salary t SPO placement preparatin accunt upn receiving a jb during placement seasn. The mney will be utilized in expanding the services rendered by SPO prvides t graduating students. The amunt may be paid in a maximum f 3 instalments within a perids f 6 mnths frm the date f jining the cmpany. Tax exemptins (80C) applicable as per institute guidelines can be claimed n dnatins made. Necessary paper wrks n this will be prvided by the institute authrities Cntributins made n this accrd will als entitle the students t receive institute assistance in future jb pursuits. Institute assistance will be a netime pprtunity extended t students wh lses his jb (secured during campus placements) due t reasns ther than in his cntrl (ex. cmpany shut dwn, firm backing ut f ffer etc.). Prviding apprpriate dcumentatin validating this will be the respnsibility f the student. Assistance will nt include cases were the student vluntarily resigns frm a jb siting persnal reasns (ex. Jb satisfactin, gegraphic preferences, wrk culture, family reasns etc.) Assistance frm institute will nly be limited t initiating cntact with 5 ptential emplyers f the student s chice. 1

2 Fllw up n applicatins, meeting eligibility criteria, interview scheduling and all related things will slely be the respnsibility f the student 4. Students can participate in placement services extended by SPO nly nce during their stay at IIT Kanpur. The plicy als applies t students wh changes their degree level (ex. B. Tech t Dual degree), while pursuing a degree prgram at IIT Kanpur. Any srt f invlvement in placement activities (applying fr even ne cmpany) will be cnsidered as participatin in placement activity. The student in this case will nt be eligible t participate in placement services extended by SPO in their graduating year. Fr students pursuing a degree change: If a student registers fr placements fr the current year and later n de-registers befre the stipulated deadline (tentative date: Octber 5 th, 2017), he/she will be eligible fr placements in the graduating year, prvided he/she has nt applied t any cmpany during this time perid. Exceptin t this is nly allwed if: The student has applied fr a degree change prir t de-registratin dead line, AND Apprval fr a degree change was received pst de-registratin dead line Dcumentatin validating the (a) date f filing degree change applicatin and (b) degree change apprval letter frm DOAA, must be submitted t SPO ffice within 48 hur f cnfirmatin 5. The tentative deadline t de-registratin frm placements is Octber 1 st, Any changes in this will be intimated t students via and/r will be psted n SPO website. Students shuld send in an request t spffice@iitk.ac.in with a cpy t spsecy@iitk.ac.in stating the reasns fr deregistratin. Mney submitted twards registratin will nt be refunded r cannt be carried ver t the next year Guidelines and applicatin rules 1. The rle f the SPO (Students' Placement Office) is f a facilitatr and cunsellr fr placement related activities. SPO des NOT guarantee a jb. SPO placement services are available nly t students registered with SPO Applying fr jb in any cmpany r jining a cmpany is entirely the respnsibility/decisin f the student cncerned. 2. SPO fllws a ne student ne jb plicy. Student will be cnsidered t have secured a jb if his/her name appears in the selectin list given by the cmpany at the end f the interview slt. SPO enfrces ne jb t ne student at the first instance. It is mandatry fr the student t accept the ffer frm a cmpany if that is the nly ffer he has received during a placement slt. If a student receives multiple ffers fr jbs in ne slt, he/she has t chse ne f the jbs at the end f the slt. Once student is ffered a jb in a slt, he/she will be de-registered frm the placement prcess and wuld nt be allwed t appear in any further prcesses. The jb pening created due t ffer rejectins (by students with multiple ffers) will be filled in frm selectin waitlist prvided by the cmpany Students waitlisted by a cmpany can appear fr ther interviews unless their selectin cnfirmatin is btained frm SPO. Plicies fr selected students (as detailed earlier) are applicable t these students nce their name is included in the selectin list Once an ffer letter is received frm a cmpany 2

3 Students are required t cnfirm the ffer within 15 days f receiving the ffer letter r at least 15 days prir t date f jining, whichever is earlier Students are required t verify the jb details (package, jb prfile, terms and cnditins, etc.) prir t signing the ffer letter Verifying the details is entirely the respnsibility/decisin f the student cncerned Any discrepancy bserved shuld immediately be brught t the ntice f SPO ffice Signed acceptance letter shuld be handed ver t SPO ffice fr dcumentatin purpses Details f jining (date, lcatin etc.), if nt mentined in jining letter, shuld be cmmunicated t SPO ffice nce the details are received frm the cmpany Students must prvide their valid/alternate cntact infrmatin ( , phne numbers, pint f cntact at the firm etc.) in the specified frm prvided by SPO while requesting fr n dues certificate N dues certificate frm SPO will nt be issued t placed students unless the signed ffer letter is submitted at SPO ffice 3. Students participating in placement activities must keep their Identity Card with them at the time f PPT/Test/Grup Discussin/ Interviews etc., and prduce the same when asked by the visiting team, SPO staff r their representatives. 4. Other than during PPT presentatins, under n circumstances the students are nt allwed t have any direct interactin (phne calls, , thrugh scial media etc.) with the cmpany fficials prir t interview time. Students are nt allwed t share their persnal cntacts (via any means) with the cmpanies cming fr campus recruitment (either during interviews r during the preliminary screening phase). If asked t fill in cntact infrmatin at any places, cntact details f SPO ffice shuld be prvided (refer t the SPO site fr details r cntact infrmatin) Please infrm SPO ffice in case if yu are asked t fill in persnal infrmatin by any cmpany Any cncerns r queries related t cmpany specific placements shuld be directed t the SPO Team wh will clarify the details with the cmpany fficials. In case if the student need t cntact a cmpany (due t any unfreseen circumstances) prir permissin has t be sught frm the Chairman, SPO. requests with details/clarificatins sught shuld be send t spffice@iitk.ac.in with a cpy t sp@iitk.ac.in and will be frwarded t the cmpany fficials by SPO ffice. Defaulters wuld be subject t disciplinary actins as per prevailing rules f SPO/SPC/Institute. 5. Attending Pre-Placement Talk (PPT) given by a cmpany is mandatry fr students wh have applied fr a jb pening in the cmpany. Students must get t the PPT venue befre the start f the sessin N students will be allwed t enter the PPT venue 10 minutes after the start f the sessin Attendance f the participating students will be taken by the SPO vlunteers 10 minutes int the start f the sessin and a cpy f that will be handed ver t the cmpany fr recrds. 6. Exemptin n attending PPT sessins are given belw Mre than tw unexcused absence frm PPTs will result in the student being de-registered frm placement sessin. Prir apprval (leave requests frms available n SPO web site) fr excused absences shuld be btained frm SPO ffice (Office Manager) at least 24 hurs in advance frm the time f cnduct f PPT s. 3

4 Exemptin apprvals will nly be given in case f health issues r any unfreseen circumstance that are beynd the cntrl f the student Medical dcumentatin explaining the reasn fr inability f student t attend PPT shuld be prduced frm an institute apprved bdy fr health related issues Leave apprvals/leave requests submitted t the institute shuld be submitted as prf fr exemptins sught in any ther cases. PPTs missed due t academic clashes will be cunted as an excused absence. Student shuld submit the details f class, a cpy f class annuncement fr the particular time perid (send by the cncerned faculty) as supprting dcuments alng with the leave request. Prf f attending class may be sught frm the faculty if the student is requesting fr absence due t academic clashes. In case f failure t attend PPTs due t any emergencies, student shuld send in an t spffice@iitk.ac.in with cpy t spsecy@iitk.ac.in detailing the emergency. Apprpriate dcumentatin shuld be submitted t SPO ffice within 24 hurs fr apprval f leave request. 7. Failure t attend PPT sessin will disqualify the student frm participating in selectin prcess f the cmpany (This des nt apply t excused absence r absence due t academic clashes). Student wh fails t appear fr a PPT sessin (nn-excused absence fr first time) are required t meet SPO ffice prir t their next PPT sessin and handver a written explanatin n reasn fr absence. The student will be allwed t participate in the next PPT unless a frmal explanatin is handed ver t SPO ffice. Secnd nn-excused absence will result in deregistratin f student frm SPO. The student will nt be allwed t re-register with SPO unless agreed upn by the SPC cmmittee. 8. Students appearing fr any tests/gd/ppt s/interviews etc. shuld be present at least 10 minutes prir t the start f prcess. Entry t the gate will be clsed 5 minutes pst the scheduled start f the sessin N students will be allwed t attend the sessin after gate clsure and will cnsidered as a nn-excused absence frm the sessin Any vilatin r frced entry after that time limit wuld be entitled t disciplinary actins as mentined later in the dcument Rules n submissin f jb applicatins 1. Students are advised t thrughly check the prfile and backgrund f each cmpany and take infrmed decisins BEFORE applying t any cmpany participating in campus placements. SPO will NOT be liable fr any default frm the cmpany's end at any later stage. Once a student applies t a cmpany all rules as per SPO student plicy will be applicable. 2. Jb applicatins fr individual cmpanies shuld be submitted nly thrugh PAS IITK nline placement prtal. Applicatins shuld be submitted in cmplete prir t deadlines mentined by the respective cmpany. N extensin n applicatin deadlines will be prvided unless requested fficially by the respective cmpany N student will be allwed t participate in the selectin prcess f a cmpany unless he has frmally applied fr that jb thrugh placement prtal (PAS). N withdrawal f applicatins will be allwed is after the stipulated deadline. 3. There is n restrictin n applying/appearing in interviews until the first jb is secured. Thugh there are n restrictins, the student are encuraged nt t apply t mre than 50 cmpanies in the first 3 days f placements. 4

5 This is t help the students fcus n the jbs/cmpanies that they have applied t. This may als help the student effectively utilize the available time t d their grund wrk n cmpanies and maximize the chances f landing n a jb ffer during this time. 4. Student is respnsible t check/meet all eligibility criteria which might be required at the time f jining (academic, medical, etc.) fr the pprtunity he/she is applying. Ex-1. Is a cmpany requires the applicant t have a CPI f 8.0 at the time f jining, be well assured befre applying t that cmpany. Ex-2. If a cmpany des nt select candidates with a particular medical disability, please ensure that yu d nt have that disability. 5. Final selectin f students may be based n Resume screening/written tests/grup discussins/interviews etc. and may vary as per the firms requirement Participatin in final interviews is mandatry fr all shrt listed students Shrt listing f students fr final interview will be based n selectin/cut-ff criteria set by cmpanies and may vary amng participating firms Only thse students wh has applied fr the jb thrugh SPO and has been shrtlisted by the cmpany will be allwed t participate in final interview Students shuld nt engage in any discussin with the recruiters regarding final selectin list and/r selectin prcess during persnal interviews 6. SPO strngly discurages the students t g fr ff campus placements in the cmpanies as this affects the cmpany-institute relatins adversely. In case if a student is interested in applying fr a firm nt included in the list f cmpanies participating in campus recruitment, they are encuraged t frward the persnal cntact infrmatin they have in the cmpany t SPO team. SPO may frmally invite these cmpanies fr participating in campus placements. Prper reference f the surce f interest will als be shared with the cmpany during this prcess Students are mandated NOT t apply n ff-campus mde t cmpanies wh are visiting fr the current year r thse wh have visited in the past 2 years. Any evidence f students appraching cmpanies (details mentined earlier) will invite disciplinary actins as recmmended by SPC 7. Students engaging in ff campus placement mde (applying t cmpanies currently participating r have visited IITK in the past 3 years) can adversely affect the relatinship the Institute has built up with these cmpanies and als deter the cmpanies frm participating in campus recruitment prcess in the fllwing years. Hence the defaulters will als be subject t Institute/SPO/SSAC disciplinary actins as per prevailing rules f the Institute. Rules and regulatins n withdrawal f jb applicatins 1. Student will nt be allwed t withdraw a submitted jb applicatin AFTER the last day f applicatin deadline mentined by the cmpany. 2. Once a student withdraws his applicatin fr a jb prfile ffered by a cmpany, the student will nt be allwed t re-apply t the same jb pening. 3. If a student backs ut f a jb applicatin (nt appearing fr PPT r interviews) after the last date f applicatin, all rules and regulatins as mentined in disciplinary actins sectin will be levied. Student cnduct and disciplinary actins 1. Cheating/attempt in all frms during the selectin prcess (PPT s, written exams, grup discussins etc.) is a serius ffence 5

6 All students invlved in these cases will be subject t Institute/SPO/SSAC disciplinary actins as per prevailing rules f the Institute SPO registered students caught indulging in such activities wuld be debarred frm the placement prcess with immediate effect and their registratin will be cancelled. Als nte that n cncessins in any frm shall be prvided in such case. 2. Students are expected t behave with the cmpanies in a prfessinal and curteus manner Ex. Refrain frm asking inapprpriate questins during PPT r Interview Students shuld nt argue with the recruiters Students shuld maintain decrum even under prvcatin 3. In case f any misbehaviur n part f recruiter s during interview prcess Please d NOT retaliate under any circumstance, even under prvcatin. Please reprt the matter t SPO vlunteers/office immediately 4. Mbile phnes are nt allwed during any placement related activities. This includes written tests, PPT s, grup discussins, persnal interviews etc. The prcesses hlds the same sanctity as any f the IIT examinatins. Institute recmmended disciplinary actins fr students carrying cell phnes t examinatin halls will be impsed n students fund using cell phnes during placement activities Additinal disciplinary actins as recmmended by SPO/SPC will als be impsed fr repeated ffence which may even lead t deregistratin f students frm placement prcesses. The penalty may be decided n a case by case manner and the decisin f SPC n this will be binding and will nt be recnsidered under any circumstances 5. Malpractices f any srt during written tests, PPT s, grup discussins, persnal interviews etc. is strictly prhibited Students caught attempting/presenting falsified infrmatin during SPO activities will be reprted t institute authrities fr disciplinary actins. Students invlved in these vilatins will be deregistered frm placements with immediate effect. Student will be escrted ut f the examinatin centre and will nt be allwed t participate in the current r any f the future placement activities. Cancellatin f registratin fr these students will nt be revked unless cleared by SPC and SSAC Students invlved will als be subject t Institute/SPO/SSAC disciplinary actins as per prevailing rules f the Institute. If student make any false claims in resume submitted fr jb applicatin Jb ffer will be revked, if the case f falsified resume was fund after receiving a jb ffer Students invlved will be deregistered frm placements with immediate effect. Further disciplinary actin as per decisin f the SPO/SPC will als be impsed n the students. If a student is fund t have hidden the nature f his/her enrlled prgram (fr example, cnversin t dual degree), his/her registratin at SPO will be cancelled immediately and wuld lead t further disciplinary actin as per decisin f the Chairman, SPO. 6. Student, if fund t have vilated any f the rules and regulatins f SPO/IITK ther than thse mentined abve r indulging in cnduct unbecming f an IITK student r any behaviur that may affect the relatinship f the institute with a cmpany Case will be reprted t SPO Chairman, SPC, DOSA, DOAA and SSAC Students invlved in vilatin f SPO nrms will als be subject t Institute/SPO/SSAC disciplinary actins as per prevailing rules f the Institute 6

7 Students if already placed, the cncerned firm will be intimated fficially n the details f the vilatin. Under n circumstances will SPO be respnsible fr the firm s fllw-up actins which may even include cancellatin f the extended ffer. Decisin ff SPO/SPC will be binding and will nt be revked under any circumstances 7. Students fund t have engaged in any discussin with the recruiters regarding final selectin list during persnal interviews will be debarred frm participating in placement activities 8. Any srt f misbehaviur n the part f students which affects the decrum f the selectin prcess r the reputatin f SPO attracts a severe penalty as per discretin f SPO/SPC The disciplinary actin may be decided n a case by case manner and may vary depending n the severity f the situatin. 9. In case f discrepancies, all decisins taken by Chairman, SPO wuld be final and will nt be revked under any circumstances. 7
