Please nte, yu will need access t the student versin (minimally) f Micrsft Wrd & PwerPint t cmplete assignments required in this curse. 4 x 6 Ruled Index Cards (3 x 5 sized index cards will nt be accepted) Learning Outcmes / Curse Objectives: By the end f this curse, the student will: 1. Apply the principles f develping and delivering effective multimedia presentatins and educatinal interventins. 2. Becme familiar with and practice a variety f in persn, as well as digital, health educatin methds. 3. Develp print health educatinal materials fr teaching, learning and cmmunicating health infrmatin. 4. Identify, select, acquire, and evaluate health educatin resurces available frm a variety f surces including the Internet and mbile apps. 5. Identify and explain the seven respnsibilities f a Certified Health Educatin Specialist. What Yu Can D T Be Successful in HSC 4302: By understanding and perfrming the fllwing actins: 1. Be present at all class meetings. In rder t cntribute t the verall prductivity f the class, it is t yur advantage t be here. Please infrm me f any scheduling cnflicts PRIOR t the beginning f class. (See Attendance/Participatin Plicy fr mre details.). Attendance will nt be taken in class s attendance will nt affect yur grade directly in this sense, but based n the structure f the curse, it will nt be pssible t get a gd grade withut being present regularly. 2. Take wnership f yur educatin and learning experience. 3. Be an active participant in class discussins and activities. 4. Cmplete any readings PRIOR t cming t class. As we engage in class discussins, yu shuld be familiar with the material s that yu may cntribute t discussins. 5. Infrm me whenever there is a prblem related t the class, whenever yu feel the need t clarify questins, r whenever yu desire t further explre the tpics f particular interest. 6. Respect the viewpints and cntributins f yur instructr and fellw classmates. Curse and Instructinal Frmat: Individuals learn in unique patterns; therefre, a variety f learning mdalities (lecture, participatin activities, applicatin assignments, and class discussins) are ffered and encuraged. This curse will als utilize inclass & ut-f-class learning activities. Yur CANVAS accunt (elearning.ufl.edu) will be utilized fr accessing specified curse materials. While certain key cncepts frm the reading will be reinfrced during class lecture, the lecture will nt recapitulate the assigned reading, meaning that a great deal f the cntent in the lecture will be unique frm the reading. My general apprach is that yu are all advanced, capable students and d nt need the reading material t be simply repeated during class lecture
3 Nte taking is an imprtant skill, bth fr a student and fr a prfessinal. In bth yur life as a student and subsequent life as a prfessinal, yu will nt always be handed the materials frm an ral presentatin, thus it is critical that yu learn t determine the mst imprtant aspects f a presentatin and take ntes accrdingly. Given this, I will nt be prviding cpies f my Pwerpint slides r handuts Curse Requirements, Accessibility: Access t University f Flrida s E-Learning System, CANVAS: elearning.ufl.edu. (Internet cnnectin DSL, LAN, r cable cnnectin desirable). Faulty Internet Cnnectins WILL NOT be accepted as an excusable reasn fr any missed assignments, activities, and/r quizzes. The written draft will be accmpanied by a brief ral presentatin in class. The written draft and the ral presentatin will each cunt fr 5 pints. After receiving feedback n yur draft bjectives (bth written and ral), yur team will then revise the bjectives based n instructr feedback and submit the final revisin. Part II : Cmmunicatin f the Substance f the HCAC (55 pints) Page 4 In this critically imprtant part f the HCAC, students will research the selected health issue, cming up with a substantive yet succinct message and then using their skills in develping effective presentatins t cnvey this infrmatin in a way that will be understandable and engaging t multiple audiences. Having cnveyed this health infrmatin in an effective manner, the students will develp an actin plan t affect change within the target audience. Part II f the HCAC must include the fllwing: a) Summary Pwer Pint Presentatin f Cmmunity Health Issue (40 pints). Students will be asked t research relevant health infrmatin fr the purpse f cmmunicating a particular health issue in a lgical and cherent manner. The presentatin f the health issue shuld be applicable t diverse audiences such as stakehlders and decisin makers. Students must develp a PwerPint presentatin that describes the health issue t ptential calitin members. Please use the PwerPint sectin f the Develping Effective Presentatins lecture as a guide fr summarizing yur health issue and develping a PwerPint Presentatin (.ppt file) that effectively summarizes the cmmunity health issue. Yur grup will submit bth a presentatin that includes thrugh speaker ntes and a handut including yur presentatin slides nly. b) Calitin Actin Plan (15 pints).
