By participating in BlueShift, yur team has the pprtunity t apply the thery yu've learnt in class t a prblem faced by a real Australian business. As yu research the industry and delve int the issues facing this business, yu'll develp prfessinal presentatin and creative prblem-slving skills, and get a taste fr what it's really like t wrk in the exciting wrld f business.

2 Team rles Yur team shuld cnsist f a Team Mentr and three t five student team members. Team Mentr: The team mentr must be an adult assciated with yur schl (eg. Teacher, student teacher, parent) and will prvide supprt and guidance thrughut the cmpetitin. Yur mentr can guide and cach yu, but they must nt d the wrk fr yu. Team Leader: The team leader acts as the first pint f cntact between QUT and the team. The team leader shuld be a student member f yur team and smene wh is respnsible fr checking the team address t ensure any cmpetitin cmmunicatin is received. Each team, wrking with the team mentr, shuld decide hw the team is structured and will functin. The team leader functin may extend t a larger leadership rle, r act simply as the cntact pint fr cmmunicatin. Team Members: Students enrlled in grade 11 r 12 in the year f the cmpetitin. All teams will be infrmed f the utcme via Finalist teams cme t QUT Gardens Pint and present their slutins in persn t a panel f judges frm QUT Business Schl and the business cmmunity. BlueShift Preliminary Rund Instructins The preliminary rund f the BlueShift cmpetitin is a written submissin in respnse t the BlueShift Business Case Study. This part f the cmpetitin is cmpleted entirely nline and all teams will have access t resurces nline. 3 It is the respnsibility f the team leader t check their t receive the business case study and t ntify QUT Business Schl if they have nt received these dcuments by 5pm n the day that the Cmpetitin pens. Teams will have six weeks t prepare a written submissin in respnse t the business case. Written submissins are t be submitted t QUT via , at blueshift@qut.edu.au by 12 nn n the cmpetitin clsing date. Any submissins received after 12 nn n the cmpetitin clsing date are nt valid and will nt be cnsidered. In rder t allw fr any pssible delays, we recmmend yu aim t yur submissin n the mrning f the clsing date, rather than leave it t the last minute. N respnsibility is accepted fr late, lst r misdirected entries. All written submissins becme the prperty f QUT Business Schl. All written submissins must be accmpanied by a cmpleted BlueShift Submissin Cver Sheet, signed by all team members. If the Cver Sheet is nt included, the submissin is nt eligible. Tips fr yur written submissin Yur written submissin needs t clearly address the task utlined in the BlueShift Business Case Study prvided by QUT Business Schl Written submissins shuld be ed in Micrsft Wrd frmat. All ther file frmats will nt be cnsidered. Use A4 pages, with minimum 10 pint fnt, and minimum 1.5cm margins. Use a clear structure with headings and sub-headings. Acknwledge all surces using in-text references r ftntes. Include a reference list. Yur submissin can include text, tables, diagrams and images. Yu shuld think abut hw t best present infrmatin clearly and cncisely. When develping yur slutin: Be creative and riginal Clearly link yur analysis t yur recmmendatins Make a persuasive case fr why and hw the business shuld implement yur recmmendatin Further tips can be fund n the BlueShift website 3 P a g e

4 BlueShift Finals Instructins Team selected t g n t the BlueShift Finals will be required t present their business case slutin in persn t a panel f judges. This will require yur team t travel t QUT Gardens Pint campus n a Saturday t cmpete. Finalist Team leaders will be ntified f their Team s acceptance int the Finals via and phne. Finalist Teams will then have tw weeks t prepare an ral presentatin f their BlueShift Business Case written submissin, t be accmpanied by PwerPint slides as a visual aid. Finals will be held n campus at QUT Gardens Pint n a Saturday. All members f the finalist team must be present t cmpete. Yu need t register nline t cnfirm yur attendance and participatin in the BlueShift Finals. Yu will receive a registratin link via . Family and friends are invited t attend and supprt yur team at the BlueShift Finals. Yu will need t ensure all additinal attendees are als registered t attend. The BlueShift Finals will run frm 10:00am t 4:00pm. All teams are expected t participate fr the full sessin. Finalist Teams are asked t arrive at the BlueShift Finals n later than 10:00am and submit a USB with their PwerPint slides t the Cmpetitin Organiser. Any teams that arrive after the starting time may nt be able t cmpete in the Finals. The decisin t exclude a team frm cmpeting in the Finals due t late arrival is at the abslute discretin f the Cmpetitin Organiser. If a Finalist Team is nt ready when they are called t present they frfeit their place in the Finals Cmpetitin. In the first rund (Finals Rund One) f the BlueShift Finals the Finalist Teams will be allcated int three grups. The allcatin and presentatin rder will take place by randm draw. The Finalist Teams in each grup will present t a panel f judges and ne team frm each grup will be chsen t g n t the secnd rund. The secnd rund (Finals Champin Rund) f the BlueShift Finals will cnsist f the three winning teams frm Finals Rund One. These three teams will present the same presentatin t a panel f judges. The judges will then chse an Overall BlueShift Champin Team (first place), a First Runner Up Team (secnd place) and a Third Runner Up Team (third place). 4 P a g e

5 Tips fr yur Finals Presentatin Try t capture the main pints f yur written submissin in yur presentatin. As with yur written submissin, remember t be creative and riginal, clearly link yur analysis t yur recmmendatins and make a persuasive case fr why and hw the business shuld implement yur recmmendatin Yur PwerPint presentatin shuld include relevant images and text t reinfrce yur message. All Finalist Teams presentatins must be in PwerPint frmat. N ther frmat r presentatin sftware will be accepted. If the presentatin is prvided in a frmat ther than PwerPint, the Finalist Team will be given the ptin t present entirely withut visual aids r t frfeit their place in the BlueShift Finals. N vides r audi files are permitted within the PwerPint presentatin. If any vide files r audi files are included, these will be remved by the Cmpetitin Organisers prir t presentatin. Finalist Teams will present fr a maximum f 15 minutes fllwed by apprximately 5 minutes questin and answer time with the judges. Warnings will be given when there are five minutes remaining; when there is ne minute remaining, and when time is up. Marks will be deducted fr ging ver the allcated fifteen minutes presentatin time.
