2 School Direct Tuition Fee Trainees This route is suitable for all those who have a degree in a relevant subject, or who are in their final year of undergraduate study. Trainees undertake rigorous subject based tuition at the University of Reading, plus two training placements at Teach Maidenhead schools, where trainees initially observe lessons, before beginning their own teaching practice. During their placements t rainees also att end w eekly professional studies sessions, led by experts from across the Teach Maidenhead schools. Trainees are assessed via university-based assessments and observed lessons. 3 School Direct Salaried Trainees This route is suitable for highly qualified and ex perien ced individuals who are already working in education in a support role, or career changers with at least three years work experience in industry as well as some school experience. This is an accelerated programme, which, like the tuition-fee route, combines university tuition and practical experience in two Teach Maidenhead schools. Salaried trainees are strongly advised to study for QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) although the QTS only route is available as well. 4 The Teach Maidenhead Partnership Where to Find Us Maidenhead is located halfway between London and Reading, one mile from the M4 and six miles from the M 40. The five main Teach Maidenhead schools are located in the four corners of the town, a little over a mile away from each other. Maidenhead benefits from excellent rail and road connections, which will improve still further when Crossrail opens. The town is 15 minutes from Reading by train and 20 minutes fr om L ondon on a non - st op t r a i n. H e a t h r o w A i r p o r t i s approximately ten miles to the east. Windsor, Henley and Marlow are all within ten miles and Oxford is approximately 35 miles away. 4 Our partnership consists of five secondary schools: Furze Platt Senior School (founder and lead school), Cox Green School, Altwood Church of England School, Desborough College and Holyport College. We are also linked to a number of primary schools and Manor Green, a special school. All Teach Maidenhead secondary schools teach students from ages 11-18, giving trainee teachers the opportunity to teach the entire secondary age range. Teach Maidenhead schools include co-educational and a single-sex school, nondenominational schools, a church school and a free school. The partnership includes a service which supports children in mainstream educational settings with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Trainees can expect to take up employment at one of the Teach Maidenhead schools upon successful completion of the course, where possible.

6 Applicants Must Have: A GCSE, or comparable qualification, at grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics. Ideally a first or second-class UK Bachelor s degree in an appropriate subject, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard from a recognised higher education institution. The equivalence of all overseas degrees must be verified through NARIC. Successfully passed professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy preferably by 30 th June 2018 before they can enrol on a programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Relevant recent experience within a school setting or have arrangements for that experience in place prior to applying. Applicants who are judged not to have sufficient subject knowledge in the relevant area may be required to undertake a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course. These courses are available though Reading University and vary in length from two week refresher or booster programmes, through to twelve week intensive programmes. 6

7 School Direct Tuition Fee Route Costs 9,250 for UK/EU students 15,270 for International Students We recommend that all trainees consider both QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), however in special circumstances Reading University offers the option to study for QTS only, at a cost of 7,500. Fees are paid to Reading University upon commencement of the course. Trainees are eligible for student loans to cover the fees, and also for maintenance loans. All fees listed are for the year Up to Bursaries 26,000 is available in many subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, Geography, Biology, Maths, English, Design and Technology, History and Music. 8 School Experience Days How to Apply Our school experience days provide an opportunity to visit one of our five schools and see the school in action. They start with an introduction to Teach Maidenhead, how we operate and how we support trainees who join our consortium. This is followed by a short tour of the school and the opportunity to observe three lessons. Finally, visitors are invited to share their experiences with a senior leadership team member. Further school experience will be available to any applicants being called for an interview. Interested applicants should apply through UCAS. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview at one of the Teach Maidenhead schools. They will undertake a range of activities to judge their suitability for a career in teaching. Following this, successful applicants will be offered a training place and informed where possible of their main placement school.
