4 Teacher s Guide fr Student Learning Activity There are three parts t this learning activity with each part building n the ther. Nte that the hmewrk assignment shuld be cmpleted prir t intrducing Blueprint Builder. Part A: Hmewrk Assignment The hmewrk assignment will help students build their understanding and learn abut career pathways. The image belw depicts tw pathways that depict the Career Myth. The first graphic the way it is suppsed t be shws a linear path that is almst a thing f the past. Current career develpment thinking recgnizes that the straight path graduate frm high schl, d sme pst-secndary learning, wrk, and then retire is utmded. Acknwledging this ntin will reduce the stress that many yuth experience trying t meet the expectatins f this utdated career path. If they learn t embrace uncertainty, build n their experiences, and chse pathways that match their desires, they will likely have a much richer career planning experience. It includes Career, Educatin and Jb Search resurces all in ne place. Yur persnalized Blueprint will keep track f yur research, and link yu t all srts f career, educatin and jb search resurces. It s like a persnal accunt that will hld all yur research and valuable career planning infrmatin. Yu can save resurces yu like and add ntes t refer back t at a later date. T use all the great resurces available, yu need t create an accunt. Step One: Create an Accunt 1. Click n 2. Click Register Nw t create a prfile accunt and persnalize yur Blueprint. T create yur Prfile, cmplete the frm and select all the details that apply t yu. Enter yur address, and select a passwrd (at least six characters lng, with at least ne upper-case letter and ne number). Agree t the Blueprint Privacy Plicy, and click Create Prfile. Step Tw: Respnd t the activatin Yu ll receive an activatin just click n that link t activate yur accunt. Then, lg in using yur address and passwrd. Step Three: Once yu re lgged in, yu ll be returned t the hmepage Take a lk at what is available fr yu t explre n the hmepage. Yu ll als see prgress bars that highlight yur prgress in building yur Blueprint. Once yu ve selected ne f the categries (Career, Educatin r Jb Search), view the variety f resurces available in that grup. Since yu ve already created an accunt, the resurces will be custmized t match yur prfile settings, indicated with a Matches Prfile label n matching resurces. Yu can easily expand r minimize each categry and brwse thrugh the resurces. Yu can view all resurces n Blueprint Builder with the A-Z Search. Yu can als add ntes abut the resurces t refer t later frm the View yur Blueprint page, if yu ve created an accunt. Nw that yu have an accunt, yu can get the career resurces that match yur persnal prfile, and add thers t yur persnal Blueprint fr future use and viewing. Use Blueprint Builder t explre the wide variety f career planning resurces that can help yu plan and research yur career. Build yur persnalized Blueprint and get started n finding career success! When yu distribute the sheet f student instructins fr this set f tasks, give students guidance fr when yu expect them t cmplete each task. Make sure t review the instructins with yur students befre yu assign each f the fllwing tasks: 1. Build a cllectin f career resurces in yur persnalized Blueprint t supprt yur career jurney nw and int the future. This will be an nging activity as students register, navigate, and explre Blueprint Builder. Encurage students t add a resurce they either want t return t, r ne that may be f help t the peple they interviewed. Make sure the students knw they can add ntes abut each resurce t refer t later. 2. Frmulate a visin fr yur wn career jurney by netwrking with friends and family. After students have successfully registered with Blueprint Builder, direct them back t their hmewrk assignment frm Part A, and lead a discussin as fllws: a. What did they find during their interviews? Review the reflectin questins with the students. The Career Myth graphics may be helpful. Or yu may wish t create yur wn diagram n the whitebard. b. Students cmplete this shpping list activity adapted frm Career Crafting: the Decade after High Schl Prfessinals Guide. Yu culd shw them sme examples if that is helpful. Draw frm yur persnal experience r frm smene yu knw. 4. Assess varius career ptins against yur persnalized shpping list t identify careers best suited t yu. Students build n the shpping list created. They will use their shpping list alng with the resurces in their Blueprint t find infrmatin abut the career they generated ding ne r all three Career Cmpass quizzes, and by lking at Career Prfiles r Career Vides. If n career was f interest then students culd chse their wn career ideas. 5. Make a plan t explre a jb yu may want t learn mre abut. Actual wrk r vlunteer experience in the cmmunity is a fantastic way t see if the jb in real life is a gd fit. If students cmplete the cmmunity experience, ask them t reflect n their time spent jb shadwing r vlunteering, and if they wuld chse t pursue the career ptin, r try smething else. Helping students explre career ptins with intent is a great pprtunity fr students during their high schl years. Students can take a Wrk Experience curse, r cunt the hurs twards their Wrk Experience graduatin requirements.
