1 The Kuskkwim Crpratin 4300 B Street, Suite 207 Anchrage, AK COLLEGE SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM: APPLICATION PACKET PROGRAM DESCRIPTION / BACKGROUND The Kuskkwim Crpratin (TKC) is administering a Cllege Summer Intern Prgram fr the summer There are currently three (3) COLLEGE SUMMER INTERNS POSITION OPEN UNTIL April 6, The Kuskkwim Crpratin Cllege Summer Intern prgram prvides Alaska Natives that are currently enrlled in a cllege, pst high schl vcatinal training prgram r recent cllege graduates with wrk experience and an pprtunity t explre career ptins. The prgram is designed t prmte sharehlder hire and training pprtunities. Internships are available thrugh TKC, TKC subsidiaries r TKC partnerships. Cllege summer intern s hurs are flexible, depending upn prjects and placement. The number f weeks and the specific dates a summer intern wrks will be determined n a case-by-case basis t accmmdate the intern s academic calendar and hst site s needs. The pay scale is based n a cmpetitive intern wage. The wage fr undergraduate and graduate students depends n experience (D.O.E.). WHO MAY APPLY 1. Alaska Natives as defined by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) f 1971, including legally adpted children are eligible t apply t the cllege summer intern prgram. (43 U.S.C.A. 1601). 2. Applicants must be either an undergraduate r graduate cllege student enrlled full-time in a degree prgram fr the fall 2018 term r plan t graduate frm an undergraduate r graduate prgram with a degree in the spring Qualified emplyees wh als meet all ther requirements under Wh May Apply, are eligible. 4. T be eligible t apply fr the cllege summer intern prgram applicants must be a high schl graduate r have a GED and be at least 18 years f age at the time their internship wuld begin. APPLICATION PROCEDURES Applicants may apply fr an internship thrugh the TKC Human Resurces Department. 1. Applicants must submit a cmpleted cllege summer intern applicatin. Incmplete applicatins will nt be reviewed. A cmplete applicatin includes the fllwing: Cver Letter; Summer intern applicatin frm (pages 4 thrugh 6 f the 2018 cllege summer intern applicatin packet); Updated resume; Mst recent high schl r cllege transcript; Prf f cllege enrllment r recent graduatin; Letter f Acceptance (if applicant is enrlled in cllege but have nt yet started cllege classes); and

The Cmmittee cnsiders all infrmatin and cmpleteness f applicatins. Selectin is a cmpetitive prcess as if applying fr emplyment. The Cmmittee ranks each applicatin in a variety f categries, including: neatness f applicatin packet, schlastic achievement, cver letter, and interview. COLLEGE SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM GUIDELINES 1. COMMUNICATION Summer Interns must ntify the Human Resurces Manager immediately if there is a change t their mailing address, institutin/prgram attending, r enrllment status (full-time vs. part-time). 2. TRANSCRIPTS Summer Interns must prvide an transcript at the beginning f their internship. If an Intern fails t submit his/her transcripts t TKC, the anticipated intern start date may be delayed r the intern may be placed n prbatin until requirements are met. If requirements are nt met by a date specified by the Human Resurces Manager, the intern may be separated frm the prgram. 3. GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) Summer Interns must have a cumulative 2.0 grade pint average (GPA). Applicants with a GPA lwer than 2.0 will nt be cnsidered fr the prgram. 3. ENROLLMENT STATUS (FULL-TIME TO PART-TIME) Summer Interns must demnstrate prf that they are either 1) enrlled full-time (a minimum f 12 credits fr undergraduate students and 9 credits fr graduate students) in a cllege degree prgram fr the fall term 2018 r 2) will graduate frm a undergraduate r graduate cllege degree prgram in the spring f Applicants that d nt have prf that they are either enrlled full-time in a cllege degree prgram r n track t graduate frm a cllege degree prgram will nt be cnsidered. A mve t part-time status will result in the Summer Intern being placed n prbatin and ptentially separated frm the prgram. Interns may be exempt wh fail t maintain their full-time status due t situatins beynd their cntrl, such as a death in the family, illness, r a family emergency. A Summer Intern seeking an exemptin is respnsible fr ntifying his/her direct supervisr and the Sharehlder Develpment Manager f the extenuating circumstances. The supervisr and Human Resurces Manager will determine exemptins n a case-by-case basis. 4. DROP-OUT If a Summer Intern drps ut f schl befre the end f his r her internship, TKC will require that the intern be separated frm the prgram. Interns may be exempt wh fail t attend r drp ut due t situatins beynd their cntrl, such as a death in the family, illness, family emergency, etc. An Intern seeking an exemptin is respnsible fr ntifying his/her direct supervisr and the Human Resurces Manager f the extenuating circumstances. The supervisr and Human Resurces Manager will determine exemptins n a case-by-case basis. 8. ORIENTATION All supervisrs will prvide rientatin fr Summer Interns during the first week f emplyment. The rientatin will include the fllwing: an explanatin f TKC plicies t include wrk rules, prper wrk attire, attendance/punctuality requirements, etc.;

3 infrmatin n jb assignments and all aspects f the tasks and expectatins; a review f the jb descriptin and perfrmance evaluatin criteria (the supervisr will cnduct the perfrmance evaluatin); discussin abut the imprtance f participating in cmpany meetings, events, and training cnferences; hst site expectatins; intrductin t c-wrkers and a tur f the facility; and a cntact persn will be prvided t the intern if they have any fllw up questins. The Human Resurces Manager will als prvide an rientatin t the Summer Intern prgram, reviewing the prgram plicies, guidelines and prcedures. 9. WORK SCHEDULE Interns hurs can very n a case-by-case base. The number f weeks and the specific dates a summer intern wrk will be determined n a case-by-case basis t accmmdate the Interns academic calendar and the hst site. TKC expects the intern t be reliable and punctual in reprting fr scheduled wrk. Absenteeism and tardiness place a burden n ther emplyees and n TKC. Typically nt t exceed 8 weeks. 10. PAY & BENEFITS The pay scale is based n a cmpetitive intern wage. The wage fr undergraduate and graduate students depends n experience (D.O.E.). Summer Interns d nt qualify fr benefits. One-time rundtrip airfare fr Interns that must travel a lng distance t their wrk lcatin may be prvided at the discretin f Human Resurces Manager. 11. MONITORING The manager f the department will be respnsible fr mnitring emplyment prgress. Frmal feedback will be given t the Intern ver the summer. If perfrmance falls belw a satisfactry level, the Summer Intern will either be placed n prbatin r separated frm the prgram. Interns are directly supervised by a staff member in the department they are interning in. The same jb perfrmance standards and time and attendance regulatins that apply t regular emplyees als apply t Summer Interns. Summer Interns will receive a cpy f the Emplyee Handbk upn hire. The Human Resurces Manager will mnitr Summer Interns GPAs, credits taken, and hurs wrked. 12. TERM The Spring & Summer Internships are designed t accmmdate Intern s schl schedules and therefre, last between 7-12 weeks, depending n the Intern s academic calendar. There is n guarantee r cntract fr emplyment r an internship fr this duratin. N ne ther than the Intern Cmmittee r Human Resurces Manager may change these cnditins. 13. COMPLETION The Summer Intern has n bligatin t return upn graduatin t TKC, nr des TKC have an bligatin t hire the Intern nce he r she has graduated. 14. EXCEPTIONS Exceptins t these plicies may be justified and granted by the Intern Cmmittee as needed. 15. PAY SCALE Hurly wage range. Freshman $12-$13 Sphmre $13-$14 Junir $15-$16 Senir $16-$18
