1 Academic Testing fr Students with Disabilities Texas State University Cmmns, Grund Level, Rm G (Main Office) Student Testing Guidelines Testing at the Academic Testing fr Students with Disabilities Office (ATSD) is the right f the student. Hwever, s that every student is able t access their testing accmmdatins, each student is respnsible fr fllwing and adhering t the guidelines belw. The ptin t take a test in the ATSD testing center nly applies t in-class tests r quizzes. Students wh chse t crdinate testing arrangements with ATSD must fllw the plicies and prcedures utlined belw. ATSD Plicies Identificatin Plicy All students testing at ATSD must present valid pht identificatin (ID) prir t accessing a test. If a student des nt have a pht ID, then he r she will nt be permitted t test. Testing at ATSD T schedule a test at ATSD, students much submit an nline test request using the ATSD Testing System. A separate request must be submitted fr each test r quiz. It is each student s respnsibility t submit test requests accrding t the time perids listed belw. If a student fails t submit a request by the specified deadline, the student will have t make arrangements with his r her instructr r take the test in class. ATSD will nly administer tests with accmmdatins that have been apprved by the Office f Disability Services (ODS). Regular Tests and Quizzes 48 hur Rule: Online requests fr all tests and quizzes must be submitted at least 48 hurs in advance f the requested scheduled starting time. The 48 hur rule des nt include weekends r hlidays. Fr example, if a student wuld like t take an exam n Mnday at 11:00 a.m., he r she will need t submit his r her testing request n Thursday by 10:59 a.m. Students are encuraged t submit their requests as sn as syllabi are received in rder t avid missing the 48 hur deadline. Submitting testing requests at the beginning f the semester ensures that ATSD will have a reserved place fr each student wanting t access his r her apprved accmmdatins. Final Exams One Week Rule: Online requests fr fall and spring final exams must be submitted at least ne week prir t the last day f regular classes fr that semester. The One Week Rule allws ATSD t ensure that students have access t all f the necessary accmmdatins fr each final exam. Online requests fr summer sessin finals must be submitted fllwing the 48 Hur Rule. If a student misses a final exam scheduled at ATSD during the fall r spring semester, the student can d either f the fllwing: Make arrangements t take the final exam with their instructr Cntact ATSD t reschedule the final exam. All rescheduled ATSD finals are taken n the last day f final exams at the 7:30 a.m. time slt. *All rescheduled finals are cntingent n instructr apprval. If a student misses a final exam scheduled at ATSD during a summer sessin, then the student will have t make arrangements with his r her instructr t make up the final exam. 1
2 Pp Quizzes If an instructr will be administering pp quizzes in a class r lab, students wanting t access their accmmdatins fr a pp quiz have three ptins: Instructr prvides testing accmmdatins t the student s that the quiz can be taken during class. Instructr arranges fr the student t meet utside f class t cmplete the pp quiz, during which the instructr prvides testing accmmdatins t the student. The instructr cntacts the ATSD supervisr via at least 48 hurs prir t the class administered pp quiz t reserve a place fr the student. (This is the nly instance when an instructr can sign up a student fr testing at ATSD.) Students wanting t access their accmmdatins at ATSD shuld have their instructr cntact the ATSD Supervisr t crdinate the administratin f pp quizzes. Tests fr Incmplete Curses & Graduate Cmprehensive Exams (Cmps) Test requests fr incmplete curses must be submitted fllwing the 48 Hur Rule. Requests fr incmplete curses must be submitted via t ATSD@txstate.edu. The fllwing 10 items must be included in the 1) Student name 2) Texas State ID number 3) Texas State address 4) Curse 5) Type f test (e.g. Test #2, Quiz 3, Final, Graduate Cmp, etc.) 6) Instructr s name and 7) Date f test 8) Start time f test 9) ODS apprved accmmdatins 10) Additinal materials allwed by instructr Accmmdatins fr Readers & Scribes If a student dismisses an assigned reader r scribe n tw ccasins in a semester, then ATSD will suspend this service. Therefre, a reader and/r scribe will nt be scheduled fr the student until he r she meets with the supervisr t discuss the situatin. ATSD encurages students t utilize the Accmmdatins nt Needed bx n the test request frm in rder t prevent excessive dismissals. If a student prefers electrnic reading sftware ver a human reader, then he r she shuld indicate this preference n the testing frm. Students wh indicate this preference n the testing frm shall be prvided with electrnic reading sftware, subject t availability. Apprpriate Behavir at ATSD Each student using ATSD services is expected t fllw the Texas State Hnr Cde, the Cde f Student Cnduct, and ATSD plicies and prcedures. (Links t these imprtant dcuments can be fund n the ATSD website: When a student tests fr the first time at ATSD, they will be asked t sign the Student Plicy and Prcedure Agreement. The Student Plicy and Prcedure agreement is a dcument that acknwledges all students have read, understand, and agree t abide by the ATSD Student Guidelines, the Texas State Hnr Cde, and the Cde f Student Cnduct. Any breach f this cntract will result in disciplinary actin that may include, but is nt limited t: Meeting with the ATSD Supervisr t discuss the behavir that needs t be crrected. During this meeting an actin plan t crrect the behavir will be created and signed by bth parties. Meeting with ther fficials emplyed at Texas State University. Cntinued and repeat ffenses will require the invlvement f the Behavir Assessment Team r Student Justice. Breaking the Texas State Hnr Cde Students suspected f vilating the Texas State Hnr Cde will be subject t the fllwing prcedures: 1) When a prctr suspects a student is breaking the Texas State Hnr Cde, the ATSD Supervisr r the Directr f TREC is called t view the screen and t watch the student in questin. 2
3 2) The Supervisr r the Directr will make the decisin as t whether r nt the student is in vilatin f the Texas State Hnr Cde. 3) If a vilatin des ccur, the Supervisr r Directr will briefly stp the test t remve the student frm the testing rm. 4) The Supervisr r Directr will explain the incident and will cnfiscate any items related t the incident. 5) The student will resume the test while the instructr is cntacted fr instructins n hw t prceed. a. If the instructr is successfully cntacted, then the situatin will be explained. At this time it is up t the instructr n hw t prceed. b. If the instructr cannt be reached, then the test is cmpleted as nrmal. 6) When the student is finished testing (r if the instructr requested t stp the test,) he r she will review the prctr s allegatins n the ATSD Alleged Academic Dishnesty frm, and then fill ut the student prtin. This frm will be scanned and ed t the instructr immediately. ATSD Schl Clsure Plicy If a weather-related issue r emergency situatin causes Texas State University t clse, all students scheduled t test with ATSD during such a clsure will be allwed t reschedule their examinatins. All affected students will receive an frm the ATSD Supervisr instructing them t select a new test date and time fr each existing request. The new date and time f testing will factr in students testing accmmdatins and schedules, but will be cntingent n faculty apprval. It may take the ATSD staff hurs t respnd t all requests; hwever, the student and the faculty member are able t mnitr prgress f the rescheduling request using the ATSD Testing System. Testing Prcedures Day f Scheduled Test Arrival 1) Students shuld arrive at ATSD at least 10 minutes befre the scheduled test time. a) Students arriving mre than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time will be unable t test. If this ccurs the student may: i. Reschedule the test with ATSD by submitting a new nline test request. The new request is cntingent n instructr apprval. ii. Take the test with the rest f the class. 2) Since the grund flr f the Cmmns building is a cell phne free area, students shuld turn ff their cell phnes befre entering the grund flr. Additinally, phne calls and texting are prhibited. 3) Upn arrival all students must check in at the ATSD frnt desk with a pht ID. 4) After checking in, students shuld wait fr their prctr in the chairs utside the ATSD frnt ffice r at the study carrels dwn the hall. 5) Students shuld have all apprved testing materials ut. 6) An ATSD prctr will call students by first name and last initial in the waiting areas. 7) Each student will need t place his r her belngings in a lcked lcker. The fllwing items must be placed in a lcker: a) Backpacks/purses b) Heavy winter cats c) Hats d) Ntebks r ntes (unless apprved by instructr) e) Textbks (unless apprved by instructr) f) Scratch paper (unless prvided by ATSD) g) All fd r drink, except fr water with a lid h) Cell phnes r MP3s (all turned ff) i) Tablet r laptps (all turned ff) 8) After each student stres his r her belngings, the prctr will walk each student t the apprpriate testing rm. 3
4 a) **Students are nt allwed t leave the testing rm after an exam has begun unless permissin is granted by the prctr.** 9) All testing will be mnitred via clsed circuit vide camera. Test sessins may be recrded. 10) The prctr will ensure students adhere t the apprved materials and accmmdatins listed n the testing request. 11) Prctrs d nt make decisins regarding the testing envirnment r accmmdatins. 12) If the student has questins r cncerns during a test, please have the prctr cntact the ATSD Supervisr. 13) If the prctr is a scribe, they will nly write what is dictated by the student. 14) If the prctr is a reader, they will nly read what is written n the test. N Shw fr a Test 1) Students wh d nt arrive at ATSD fr their test will have tw ptins: i. The student will need t submit a new nline test request. The new request is cntingent n instructr apprval. ii. The student may take the test with the rest f his r her class. Returning the Cmpleted Test 1) A student will nt be allwed t leave ATSD with a test. 2) Tests are picked up by the instructr, r are hand delivered via curier within 24 hurs. Text Reminder System ATSD encurages students t jin the ATSD Text Reminder System. Students subscribing t this service receive a text message the day prir t their test. Test reminders will display the curse, date f test, and scheduled testing time. T pt int this service students must sign up at the ATSD frnt desk. Testing Times ATSD s designated test start times are established t ensure that students receive prper accmmdatins, and face minimal distractins, given the available testing space. Testing times are nn-negtiable. Regular Tests & Quizzes On Mnday, Thursday, and Friday, ATSD administers regular tests and quizzes at the fllwing times: 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. During the fall and spring semesters, the ATSD ffice clses at 5:00 p.m. n these days. If duble time is an apprved accmmdatin, the 8:00 a.m. r 11:00 a.m. time slt shuld be selected. If triple time is an apprved accmmdatin, the 8:00 a.m. time slt shuld be selected. On Tuesday and Wednesday, ATSD administers regular tests and quizzes at the fllwing times: 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. During the fall and spring semesters, the ATSD ffice clses at 8:00 p.m. n these days. If duble time is an apprved accmmdatin, the 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., r 2:00 p.m. time slt shuld be selected. If triple time is an apprved accmmdatin, the 8:00 a.m. r 11:00 a.m. time slt shuld be selected. Summer Sessins: ATSD administers regular tests and quizzes at the fllwing times: 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. (Mnday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. (Wednesday) Students selecting time slts that d nt allw fr the full amunt f extended time will have their tests stpped at the ffice clsing time. Students arriving early t ATSD will nt be allwed t begin their tests befre the scheduled starting time. If a student is unable t take a test n the same day and time as his r her class, an explanatin must be prvided fr the instructr in the ther bx. 4
5 Fr example, Dr. Smith, my extended time fr yur test wuld cnflict with my next class, therefre I am requesting t start my exam at 8:00 a.m. instead f 11:00 a.m. Finals During the University s designated finals perid, ATSD administers final exams at the fllwing times: 7:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. If duble time is an apprved accmmdatin, either the 7:30 a.m. r 11:15 a.m. start time shuld be selected. If triple time is an apprved accmmdatin, the 7:30 a.m. start time shuld be selected. Specialty Accmmdatins Braille ATSD can cnvert mst tests t Braille frmat. The student must indicate his r her need fr Braille frmat n the nline test request. Students shuld als ntify their instructr t ensure ATSD receives the test at least 24 hurs befre the test date. Instructrs will need t send the test in Micrsft Wrd frmat. Interpreters Interpreters may accmpany any student wh needs interpreting assistance. The student will need t indicate this n the nline test request t ensure the apprpriate rm is assigned fr testing. During testing an interpreter is required t stw his r her persnal belngings in a lcked lcker. Any questins regarding this plicy can be directed tward the ATSD Supervisr. ATSD Testing System Instructr Rle Apprval: When an electrnic test request is submitted, the instructr n recrd receives an autmated ntificatin. An instructr can Deny, Cnditinally Apprve, r Apprve a test request. An instructr can submit changes t a test request at any time. ATSD will ntify the student via his r her Texas State accunt f any instructr changes. An instructr has the right t determine the length f any regular test, quiz, r final. Student Rle: Submitting a Test Request T submit an nline test request, lg in t the ATSD Testing System at: All ODS apprved accmmdatins are autmatically filled in the test request. If the accmmdatins listed are incrrect, please cntact ATSD (ATSD@txstate.edu) and ODS (ODS@txstate.edu) as sn as pssible. If the instructr allws additinal materials fr a test (e.g., calculatr, ntes, bk, etc.) the student must list these materials when submitting a request. All additinal materials must be apprved by the prfessr prir t the day f the test. ATSD will nt attempt t cntact the prfessr fr apprval f materials at the time f the test. After a request is submitted, the student will receive a cnfirmatin via their Texas State accunt. If a student still has questins r cncerns regarding testing arrangements, it is his r her respnsibility t discuss his r her cncerns with the instructr. Navigating the ATSD Testing System Checking the Status f a Test 1) Lg in t the ATSD Testing System at 2) A cmprehensive list f submitted requests fr the current semester will be displayed. T view infrmatin fr a particular test request, click n the Details ptin lcated next t that request. 3) The mst up-t-date infrmatin regarding the test will appear n the screen. 5

Changes T a Submitted Test Request 1) If changes need t be made regarding a test date, a scheduled testing time, r if additinal materials allwed need t be added r deleted, the student will need t submit a change request in the ATSD Testing System as sn as pssible. 2) Lg in t the ATSD Testing System at 3) A cmprehensive list f submitted test requests fr the current semester will be displayed. T submit a change fr a particular test request, click n the Change ptin next t that request. 4) The student shuld submit a request fr all f the necessary changes. 5) Make sure t save all changes. 6) A ntificatin will be sent t ATSD. The change request will be reviewed and prcessed within 24 hurs (excluding weekends and hlidays). 7) The student des nt need t submit a new test request shwing these changes, unless infrmed t d s by ATSD. D nt submit a new test request withut first checking with ATSD. 8) Once the change has been made, a cnfirmatin will be sent t the student and instructr via their Texas State accunts. 9) The instructr has the right t deny the change. If ATSD des nt hear frm the instructr, apprval is assumed. Cancel a Test 1) If a student decides nt t take a scheduled test with ATSD, they will need t cancel the test. 2) The student will need t submit a cancellatin request via the ATSD Testing System as sn as pssible. 3) Lg in t the ATSD Testing System at 4) A cmprehensive list f submitted test requests fr the current semester will be displayed.
