Student Learning Outcmes: By the cmpletin f this curse the student shuld be able t: a. Identify and explain the basic premises f the ecnmic way f thinking, such as the impact f rle f incentives in ecnmic decisin making. b. Apply basic ecnmic methds f analysis fr the slutin f macrecnmic prblems, such as identifying macrecnmic equilibrium price and incme levels, and evaluating the rle f interest rates in determining ecnmic grwth and inflatin. c. Interpret and manipulate basic graphical tls f macrecnmics such as aggregate supply and aggregate demand curves. d. Identify and explain the cre principles and theries f macrecnmics--fr example, Keynesianism and mnetarism. COURSE REQUIREMENTS Internet: Students will need Internet access fr this curse. Reading: All assigned reading is required and yu are respnsible fr the material cntained in it. Material psted t the class annuncement page is als testable. Reading the business and ecnmy sectin f a majr newspaper is strngly recmmended. Hmewrk: I will assign a hmewrk prject with each chapter. All are required wrk. Each is due in class n the day indicated when I give the assignment. Whenever pssible, we will g ver the assignment in ** Minr amendments may be psted t the web page as we g. 1

2 class. Hmewrk will cnsist f prblem sets, reading and creating graphs and charts, minr internet research prjects, and writing. If yu can t be in class when hmewrk is due, turn the hmewrk in any time befre class. Always d the hmewrk; the practice will help yu learn. Late hmewrk will be accepted up t ne week late, but nly fr half credit. Hmewrk assignments may be handed ut in class but will generally be psted the ecn class annuncement page f my website. Chapter Quizzes: We will have a brief in-class r take-hme quiz after each ne t three chapters (5-25 pints per quiz). Quiz dates will be annunced as we g. Make-up quizzes are nt allwed. In extenuating circumstances early quizzes MAY be ffered, cntact me in advance if yu see a cnflict. We will review the questins after taking each quiz. Participatin & iclicker Quizzes: In each class meeting we will have iclicker questins fr participatin and t assess hw well students understand the material. Sme questins will be graded with pints fr crrect answers, thers will be participatin nly. Yur participatin is being recrded and will cntribute t the participatin cmpnent f yur scre. Fr each class perid yu will get full participatin credit if yu participate in all r all but ne f the questins asked that day. If yu fail t participate n tw r mre questins in a day yu will nt receive participatin credit fr that day. iclicker quiz pints generally cannt be made up; please plan and cme t class prepared. In rare circumstances sme iclicker quiz pints may be made up but the student needs t make arrangements in advance where pssible and must cntact me t reslve the issue immediately in case f an unexpected need. Neither a frgtten clicker nr a clicker with dead batteries qualifies fr make-up clicker pints. Texting, side cnversatins, reading, and dzing during lecture are all frms f rudeness. These and ther frms f rudeness distract frm yur wn learning and disrupt thers. Please plan t refrain frm rude r distracting behavir. Exams: We will have a midterm and a final. The midterm will be given n the date listed in the syllabus belw. The exam frmat will cnsist f Multiple Chice and True/False questins with sme graphs and prblems. Please bring a green Scantrn (#882). Make up exams MAY be pssible in extenuating circumstances but will incur a 20 pint penalty. It is the student s respnsibility t arrange with me fr alternative test arrangements at least ONE WEEK BEFORE the scheduled exam if there is sme cllege-excused reasn yu cannt make the scheduled time. If yu miss class, yu will miss imprtant material and yu may miss a quiz Hnesty: I expect hnesty n tests and assignments. Fllwing Prterville Cllege plicy, if a student cheats n a test r assignment, r plagiarizes, I will give an F grade n that assignment and I will reprt the incident t the vice president. The student will have t meet with the VP f students t determine whether further disciplinary actin is necessary. Students caught cheating are nt eligible fr any extra credit r make-up pints. IF the requirements f the Alternate Scheme are nt met, then the Standard scheme will be used exclusively.
