1 Issue 6 1 st December 2017 Trinity All Through School Dear Parents/Carers A huge amount of talent exploded in St Swithuns this week at our Advent Christmas carol concert. I was extremely proud of all our pupils from across the Primary and Secondary phase. We have truly begun our Christmas celebrations with a bang. We may have started our celebrations but this has not stopped the pupils demonstrating their progress through their termly exams. Year 10 have just finished and have been exceptional. Next week all other year groups will have exams - and they all have their exam timetable to enable them to plan their revision at home. We hope the outcomes demonstrate the huge amount of effort this term and their focused revision at home. Together we will nurture greater confidence and progress. A reminder that lessons will continue right up until and including the last day of term. On Monday 18 December we will have our Christmas meal. All Pupils will sit with their family groups. The menu is attached to this newsletter. It is a great time for each family group to celebrate together. All year groups will be going to The Good Shepherd Church for their Christmas Eucharist on Monday and Tuesday of this week at well (18 and 19). Wednesday 20 December is our last day of this term and pupils will be dismissed from the staff panto at approximately 12 noon. This is an early closure. Pupils will be able to wear a Christmas jumper and other Christmas decorations on this day for 1. This donation will go towards our Christmas charity. Our last newsletter of this term will be a Through School end of term joint project. Celebrating all the work across all year groups of Trinity Through School. This week at the secondary phase we have also been reviewing the school s progress so far this academic year. We had two reviewers work directly with the Senior Leadership Team looking at pupil s books, observing lessons, meeting with staff and discussions with pupils. This process will help us reflect on what we are doing and help us improve as we move through this year. Discussing learning and sharing practice with other schools enables us to develop our practice and improve the provision for all those at Trinity School. The pupils behaved amazingly and really showed us what they are capable of achieving. 2 Chaplain s Corner Luke 2: 8-12 There were some shepherds in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields, taking care of their flocks. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone over them. They were terribly afraid, but the angel said to them, Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David's town your Saviour was born Christ the Lord! And this is what will prove it to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Christmas arrived early this week in Trinity as we had our annual all through Carol Service in St Swithuns Church. The Christmas story was retold through bible readings, poetry and musical items, performed by students across the school. We sang carols by candlelight and remembered the importance of light during Advent. The good news is that Jesus is a light to us. The even better news is that we can share the light of Jesus by bringing God s love into our world, our school and our homes. Lord Jesus Christ, Your birth at Bethlehem Draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth: Accept our praise as we worship you, Our Saviour and our eternal God. Amen In the Community ADVENT CAROL SERVICE Trinity Advent Carol Service was held on Tuesday 28 th November Pupils had practiced diligently to deliver a wonderful service. 3 QUIZ TRINITY On Friday 10 th November the PAFT (Parents and Friends of Trinity) ran a quiz night to raise money for Trinity School. It was a hugely successful evening, not only because it raised over 600, but because it was a competitive and fun evening. Hugely entertaining with picture, music and general knowledge rounds. There were many parents from both the Primary and Secondary phase at the event making it a truly Through- School experience for all. A huge thank you to the PAFT team for organising the event, running the bar, and making it a truly memorable event. It is always a great way to get to know the staff, meet other parents and have an enjoyable evening. If you are interested in joining the PAFT organising team please do contact the school office who will pass on your details. And the winning team took the Cup Page 3 of 15

4 We need your help! From Monday we are starting our Big Red Box appeal for this year. Big Red Boxes are Christmas Hampers organised by King's Church which support those in the local community who might otherwise go without during the festive period. 5 BUY A BEANIE for 3.00 and support those in the community in need. Trinity supports the BIG RED BOX every year to help those less fortunate and in need. This year, in addition to collecting food, Trinity will be donating all proceeds from the sale of the school Beanie to the BIG RED BOX charity. As a special, and in support of the BIG RED BOX Trinity will be selling the school Beanie for 3.00 All sale proceeds will go directly to the charity. They are warm to wear, fully washable and bear the school logo on the front. Keep your children warm this winter and support a good cause.. 7 PRIZE GIVING YEAR 11 s of 2016 On Tuesday 21 st November Trinity held a prize giving evening for the 2106 Year 11 s. Prizes were awarded to pupils who gained great grades in their exams alongside other prizes from the Head and the Deputy Heads. 9 PRIZE GIVING Year 11 of 2016 photo s Indigo Allen receiving the Woodard Prize Indigo volunteered in the chaplaincy team on numerous occasions. She served at school masses as well as joining in enthusiastically with chaplaincy pilgrimages and trips. Indigo was a pupil leader who demonstrated excellent leadership skills both in initiating and supporting projects: for example championing a mentoring project for younger students and being a skilful team player to facilitate the Diversity day. Indigo was generous, supportive, faithful and a joy to work with at Trinity. Victor Akingbolasan being congratulated on receiving the Deputy Head award for Progress and Attainment. 14 TRINITY MUMS FUN RUN FUNDRAISER Lucy led the Trinity mums home and Governor Hayley came third in the mums running group. Together they have raised over 1000 for sports equipment for Trinity primary. Trinity Secondary will have to take up the challenge next year.any volunteers! Page 14 of 15
