SEN INFORMATION REPORT Kinds of special educational needs Hinchingbrooke is an Academy school. We have the provision to meet the needs of students with moderate learning difficulties, dyslexia and dyspraxia, autism, physical difficulties and disabilities, hearing and visual impairments. Identifying Special Educational Needs On entering the school students sit Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT3). This data, along with end of KS2 assessment data, is used for target setting and assessing ongoing progress. There are termly and end of year progress tests in each subject. This data is monitored by the vice principals/heads of department/senco to ensure early identification of possible SEN. Every student with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Educational, Health and Care plan will have an annual review. The school works closely with START (Cambridgeshire Statutory Assessment and Resources Team), therapists and external agencies to identify the holistic needs of each child. SENCo: Ms G Terry Telephone Number: Ext Consulting Parents/Carers We hope to meet new parents at the stage when they are deciding which school is their preferred choice for their child. In September/October of each year Hinchingbrooke School holds an Open Evening for all incoming year 6 children and there is an opportunity for parents with children who have SEND to meet with the SENCo and discuss the needs of their child. The school holds regular Parents Evenings and there are regular Parent Forums held after school where parents and carers can raise and debate issues with senior staff. All parents of SEND students are encouraged to attend their child s annual review. We keep parents informed of their child s progress through the Annual Review, termly reports and by sharing targets and progress at the designated Parent Evenings. We hold termly coffee mornings for parents of children with statements and EHC plans where they can informally meet with the SENCo and other members of the SEND team.

Parents/Carers can contact the main school reception for enquiries. Mrs Helen Anthony is the SEND Administrator and is the main point of contact for the parent/carers of SEND students. SEND Administrator: Mrs Helen Anthony Telephone Number: Ext Consulting Students We encourage all SEND students to attend and express their opinions at their annual review. There are regular Parents Evenings where students are encouraged to attend alongside their parents to talk to their teachers and form tutors. Staff in the SEND office are always available during school hours. There is a student voice committee within school that allows students to discuss and share their opinions in relation to all areas of school life. SEND students are included in the membership of this. All students including those with SEND should talk and use their tutor as a means of communication and of raising issues in school plus their Head of Year and Student Support Officer. There are specialist staff in Student Services who can listen to and support the needs of all students but especially those with additional needs. Assessment and Review We have a robust system of reviewing our provision using the OFSTED framework to self-evaluate. This includes looking at: Student achievement Behaviour and safety Leadership and Management Quality of Teaching and Learning We have a school Self Evaluation Framework (SEF), and a regular cycle of lesson observations, lesson drop-ins, and work scrutiny exercises to observe and record the quality of educational provision and progress for all students across the school. Any intervention and additional funding, such as pupil premium, is identified and tracked to ensure the impact is effective.

Governors are involved in this process and receive regular reports through their regular meetings. There is also a nominated specialist SEND governor who champions SEND issues at these meetings. Transition We offer a structured induction programme for all students who make the transition to Hinchingbrooke from year six into seven. For students with a statement / EHC Plan the consultation and planning process will begin in year five. We have a specialist transition worker, Mrs Jill Nairne-Clark, who visits all our feeder primaries and organises pre-transition taster days and visits. We can offer a bespoke transition programme if needed. SEND Transitions: Mrs Jill Nairne-Clark Telephone Number: Ext In years ten and eleven, annual review meetings include pre-planning for entry to Post 16 Education & Training. Teaching & Learning and the Curriculum A relevant and inclusive curriculum is provided at both key stages and assists students in becoming functional and independent learners in an environment that promotes a positive learning experience. The curriculum allows for differentiation within the classroom and may include additional support in Literacy and Numeracy. We have specialist TA s based within the three Directorate s to offer advice and support to teachers with differentiation within the curriculum. In key stage four, students are offered a wide variety of courses to meet the needs of all learners. This may include Foundation learning with access to work placements and college courses. We also offer sessions before, during and after school to support learners in their academic and social development including breakfast club and homework club. Targeted interventions are run through KS3 and 4 for identified students who may require a specifically timed and delivered booster and catch-up to their learning.

Hinchingbrooke School endeavours to ensure that no student is excluded from taking part in any activity and is particularly well adapted with reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of students with physical disabilities, apart from parts of Hinchingbrooke House. Staff Expertise and Training All qualified teachers and support staff are involved in a CPD programme which is reviewed by the school annually. The school works very closely with START and other external agencies to meet a wide variety of students needs. Such as:- Hearing and visual impairment Autistic spectrum disorder Speech and language Medical needs and disabilities Emotional welfare We have access to a wide variety of expert advice and support from: Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Educational Psychology CAMHS Locality Team Social Care The SEND Teaching Assistants have a range of expertise and offer additional support in and out of the classroom. Jill Nairne-Clark Transition and ASD Sandra Lacey Disability and Medical Needs Elizabeth Stenning-White Visual impairment Heather Broster Hearing impairment Evaluation Students progress is monitored and reviewed regularly against their individual targets and outcomes. The SENCo takes an overview of specialist intervention sessions and measures their impact on a termly and annual basis. Assessments are carried out pre and post intervention. Student s names and data are added to the SEN support register

internally on entering intervention, then moved to a monitoring list post intervention. The quality of teaching is monitored through lesson drop-ins and lesson observations by SLT and the SENCO. Governors monitor the provision with visits and reports submitted to full Governing body meetings. Social Inclusion SEND students who attend Hinchingbrooke are integrated into the classroom and involved in school life. The school offers an inclusive curriculum that can meet the needs of all learners and allows them to succeed. SEND students are offered all extra-curricular activities with adaptations if required. Emotional & Social Development All students are offered pastoral support through tutor groups, Student Support Officers and peer mentoring. SEND students have access to a quiet supportive space before school and during breaks (by invitation only). Students are also able to access a school counsellor, qualified nurse and the Wellbeing Manager. Bullying is addressed by all staff and the pastoral teams but especially by tutors and Student Support Officers who offer support and ways forward e.g. restorative approaches. In addition to this there is a student led Anti Bullying Club (ABC) where older students can offer support to younger members of the school who feel the need to talk to another young person. Other Agencies We work very closely with health and social care professionals in supporting and meeting the needs of our students and their families. START, parents and other involved professionals are invited to the annual review and review information is shared with all relevant organisations. The school works closely with the professionals to develop care plans for all students that have medical needs. Complaints Please see the main school site for our complaints procedure.
