A big thank you to the staff who organised, cooked and served the bacon and egg burgers. It was another sensational community event. QUIZ NIGHT Last Saturday s Quiz Night proved to be a highly successful and competitive event. A good time was had by all with the Will Wonker Table taking out first place! Thank you to all who assisted in the organisation of the event, with a special mention to Matt Richards for his invaluable contribution in drafting and collating the questions. An extra special mention must go to Steve Farrell and Zane Betterman, who although not answering one question correct between them, had plenty to say on the night! STELLA FELLAS If you would like to be part of the Stella Fellas ing list and get to meet other dads in a social setting, please forward your details to: stellafellas@smps.catholic.edu.au SPORT Congratulations to players and coaches of the Stella Maris Year 4/5 Lightening Carnival. For the first time I m aware of, the team won the event. It finished off what has been a wonderful season. A top effort by all the boys. I would also like to congratulate and thank all other students and parents who have been involved in the winter sports program. There were many cold mornings when you played and supported in great fashion. Bring on summer! Yours Sincerely, 1 Syme Ave, Seacombe Gardens SA 5047 Phone: Fax: contact@smps.catholic.edu.au facebook.com/stellamarisparishschool Sean Hill PRINCIPAL
2 Page 2 Term 3 Week 7 7 September 2017 RE News Playgroup Just a reminder Sue Schulz our Parish associate and a trained teacher runs a playgroup on Monday mornings at 9am for pre-schoolers in the community room. This is a good chance for your pre-schooler to meet other children who may come to Stella Maris with them in the future. RCIA The Southern Cluster invites parents to attend an Inquiry Night for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) at Brighton Parish Office on Tuesday, 12 September at 7.30pm. The RCIA is great for learning about the Catholic faith, whether you are a Catholic or not, especially if your child is attending a Catholic school and starting to prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Holy Communion. You may even like to become Catholic yourself. EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Library News Book Week Parade What a fabulous array of costumes were worn by students and teachers for our book week parade. Many thanks to everyone for using their creative talents to make it such a success. Our library is looking fabulous and a big thank you to Chandra and her helpers for decorating it for book week and making it such a lovely place to go and read a book. Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All these international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term cultural immersion stay. It s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream.
