If this assessment highlights any areas for your son/daughter to concentrate on we will inform you so that you can offer support at home. We will discuss the areas for focus with the students and provide them with an Individual Action Plan (IAP). 35 Independent Study It is vital that students consolidate their learning through their independent study. They should already be making their revision notes for set texts. They should be reading a range of newspaper articles/magazine articles/blogs/travel writing to help them prepare for the Unit 1 Language examination Use Doddle/shared area/suggested internet revision sites

36 Supporting your child Encourage them to read a range of material both fiction and non fiction Encourage them to talk about what they are doing in lessons Encourage them to complete the independent study tasks Encourage them to start making notes for revision Read through their written work and give them some informal feedback Ask them about the texts they are studying: What is it about? Where is it set? Who are the main characters? What happens? Encourage them to start learning quotes

37 It is really important that they practise using their long term memory so any recall activities will really help them with this Encourage them to be accurate as spelling, punctuation and grammar is a focus Encourage them to ask for and take advantage of the support we are offering in school Feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions for workshops or if you would like any further advice.
