1 IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER McCann Crescent, Lenah Valley Phone web: PO Box 429 Lenah Valley 7008 No st October 2016 Behold I am with your always. (Matthew 28:20) Dear community members We have started the busy crazy term! We have many events occurring this term, but none bigger than our first School Fair in over 15 years! The Fair Committee have been working extremely hard preparing this event. We are now only TWO WEEKS away! Over the next two weeks we will be asking all members of our community to support us with various things. I ask that we all please promote this event with friends and family. The more people at the fair the better! I thank everyone in anticipation. Athletics Carnival Next Thursday the 28 th October the School Athletics Carnival will be held at John Turnbull Oval. Events commence at 9:30am and Kinder - Grade 2 will conclude by approximately 12:30 pm and Grade 3 to 6 by 2:30pm. Students from Grade 3 to 6 will be competing for the IHMCS House Shield. All students are expected to wear their House colours on the day. All students will receive a program listing their events next week. At the completion of the event a team will be selected from Grades 3 to 6 to compete in the Southern Tasmania Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival, to be held at the Domain Athletics Centre on Friday 11 th November. This should be a great day and I invite all parents to this carnival. Disco It was brilliant to see so many students make the effort to attend the disco on Wednesday night. The Halloween theme was a real success with the majority of the students dressing up. It was also great to see all the students and some parents dancing floor. The Parents & Friends Committee did a brilliant job in their organisation and I thank them for this. The P&F raised around $650, which will go towards the permanent shade shelter that we are raising money for. Basketball Tournament Last weekend (15 th and 16 th October, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School participated in the Southern Tasmania Primary Schools Basketball Tournament at Moonah, New Town High School and Clarence. We entered teams in Grade 3/4 Boys Div. 1, Grade 3/4 Girls Div. 2, Grade 5/6 Girls Div. 2 and two teams in the Grade 5/6 Boys Div. 2. It was a full on weekend with all teams competing brilliantly. The Grade 5/6 Girls came second in their division. The training really paid off. I would like to thank Kellie and Jason Vinen, Nathan Kingston, Kylie Kop, Steve Hyland, Dwayne O Neill and Peter McLoughlin for donating their time to coach and manage the teams. It was great to see all the children participating and representing our school with great enthusiasm.
2 Abbie Johnston Russian Ballet Congratulations to Abbie Johnston who was selected to perform in the Imperial Russian Ballet Company s performance of The Nutcracker. The Company was joined on stage by children from local ballet schools and dance studios. It must ve been a huge honour to dance with such a highly regarded ballet company. From what I hear Abbie performed beautifully, well done Abbie! Mud Run Sixty three students from Grade 3 to 6 will be representing the school at the Red Banks Mud Run (4km) next Friday 28 th October. This should be an exciting event where the children run over obstacles and through mud to get to the finish line. I again thank Mrs Therese Kelly for the excellent organisation and giving the students an opportunity to participate. Grade 6 Camp This Sunday, 23 rd of October, the Grade 6 s will venture to Launceston for camp. They will be going for three nights. Whilst they are on camp the students will participate in many activities. Some of these are: AirTime 360, Aquatic Centre, Platypus House, Beaconsfield Mine, Seahorse World, Cataract Gorge, plus much more. We look forward to hearing about their camp when they return next Wednesday. New Students We welcome five new students who have started school at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School this term. They are: Megan (Grade 3) and Cameron (Grade 5) Smith Cruz Thompson-Blight (Grade 3) Ruth (Grade 2) and Eisay (Grade 5) Adhanom I congratulate and thank all students and teachers who have welcomed these students to our community Enrolments As we are in the process of finalising class numbers for next year, we would greatly appreciate if you could contact us if your child/ren are not going to be attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in We have a number of classes with waiting lists and we would like to make contact with these families shortly to confirm if we have any potential vacancies. Take care and God bless. Mr Nick McGann Principal Rooke Wray & Jackson are proud to support Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School.
