2 Storm The storm that hit our district last Friday was very destructive and quite phenomenal. We were very lucky at school with no trees down or any damage caused. Our thoughts go out to the families who have had significant crop losses and damage to property and we hope that they are able to manage the clean up and hardship. Staffing Brock Riches will be on sick leave for the remainder of the year. Tammy Warn will be teaching 4R until the end of the term. Brock will return to Montpellier PS in 2017, we wish him all the best. Boys Leadership On Tuesday the boys involved in the Leaders of Evolution student leadership program finished their leadership project. The boys interviewed a number of Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 students about playing with toy cars and motorbikes in the yard. Using their feedback, the leaders designed and created a great environment for many students to play in during recess and lunch. Nunzio, Cy, Paddy and Angus did an outstanding job with their creativity, hard work and leadership to put it together. The area looks fantastic and was a hit during the very first lunch playtime!!! Choir The choir has been rehearsing every Wednesday lunchtime in preparation for their performances. One of their performances will be at the Irymple Christmas Carols at Henshilwood Oval on Sunday 4 th December between 5:30-8:45pm. ISPS Talent Showcase On Thursday 15 th December, the Irymple South Primary School Talent Showcase will take place. Students will be auditioned in either week 8 or 9, for selection into the Talent Showcase. If you believe that your son or daughter has a talent that should be shared, please make sure that they have signed up for an audition. All classrooms have audition sheets up in their rooms. From now until then, start practicing. We are looking forward to seeing the talent we have amongst our students. Reports Student reports are being written at the moment. These will be distributed on Friday 16th December. All students will receive a hard copy of their report which will include their academic level of achievement, their level of achievement in relation to our core values, teacher and student reflections, teacher comments and an overview of the specialist programs that the students have participated in. Prep 2017 Transition s Our new intake of Prep students are preparing for the start of their primary school experience. On Tuesday they attended their first transition day. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces. Our new Preps will attend three more transition days before the end of the year. 2: Tuesday 22nd November, 9:30am to 12:30pm 3: Tuesday 29th November, 9:30am to 12:30pm 4: Tuesday 6th December, 9:30am to 12:30pm Curriculum Our last Curriculum day for the year will be on Thursday 8th December. Students will not be required to attend school on this day. End of School 2016 The final day of school for this year will be on Tuesday 20th December. The students will be dismissed at 1:30pm on this day. Student start day for 2017 The first day of school for students in 2017 will be Tuesday January 31st. Preps will have Wednesdays as a rest day for all of February. All staff begin work on Monday January 30th. Community Donation and Casual Dress Our Junior School Council have combined with two of our leaders (Georgia and Zali) to coordinate a project to impact locally and globally. On Thursday December 1 st we will be having a day to donate funds and goods to help people in need. We are encouraging everyone on the day to wear casual comfortable clothes whilst bringing a gold coin and a can of tinned food. The can of food will be donated locally in Mildura to help those less fortunate. The gold coin donations will be collected and the funds will go across the ocean globally, to help a community that is less fortunate. The Junior School Council are currently investigating where the funds will go and we will report this in coming weeks Family Celebration Dinner On Wednesday 14th December the whole school will get together to celebrate the achievements and successes of many of our students. This will include the Graduation, Award Presentations and Formal Announcements of 2017 School and House Captains. All families are invited to attend, have dinner and celebrate a fantastic year of learning completed by all of our students. Dinner and Disco The students will have their end of year dinner and disco on Wednesday 7th December. Grade 5 Camp The Grade 5 students had a wonderful time in Ballarat. They have written about their adventures which are included in this week s newsletter. Camp The students will return from their trip to Ballarat this afternoon. We hope that they had a great time too. Grade 3 Camp Next week the Grade 3 students head to Swan Hill. We look forward to hearing about their adventures. 3 Ballarat Camp Grade 5 This week the Grade 5 s went to Ballarat for camp. Miss Hepworth, Miss Thompson and Mr Smith went with us. My favourite part was Sovereign Hill because we went underground we got to see what it was like for the diggers! - Olivia Tassone I would have to say that the Ballarat camp was the BEST! The first day s best experience was going to the Wild life park, feeding the kangaroos and seeing lots of Australian animals. - Maddie Petrolo One of the things that I enjoyed most about camp was the gold panning. We got to search for gold in a creek with techniques diggers used back in 1850! Another very exciting activity we got to do was go in a mine that used to be a shaft that people would mine gold in! - Ethan Norris My favourite part of Ballarat camp was the Blood on the Southern Cross sound and light show. It was amazing. The scene made it feel like you were right there witnessing the Eureka Stockade. All of the props looked exactly like the ones that people would've used back in the No people were acting but the atmosphere made the surroundings look like people were there! - Mia Mayne At Camp in Ballarat I enjoyed watching 'Blood on the Southern Cross which gave us a really good idea on what happened at the time of the Eureka Stockade. I also really enjoyed Tenpin Bowling on the first night where we had a disco playing while bowling. - Lachlan Baker My favourite part of camp was watching the gold pour. I got picked out of all of the people to come up and hold a gold bar. This gold cost over $160,000!! - Darcie Peters My favourite parts of camp were walking around Sovereign Hill and learning a lot about what they used to do in the 1850's gold rush era. I also loved the sound and light show but it was very cold!! - Morgan Vadlja Irymple South Primary School Newsletter - Issue 36, Week 7, Term 4,

4 ART with Mrs Lord The Art Room is looking amazing with all the wonderful pieces of art created by our students on display. The students have been very busy creating art and then selecting their best pieces for display. I have been extremely proud of how the students embrace their creativity and have a go at all of the projects that they are given. Art Exhibition Our annual Art Exhibition will be held in the Art Room from Monday 21st November to Friday 25th November. All students will have work on display the they had created throughout the year. Thanks to Fair Dinkum Fencing for providing temporary fencing to display the art. Christmas Tree in Irymple Next Friday, 25th November, the Irymple Progress Association will light the Christmas Tree in Lloyd Park. The students in Grade 2 have helped to make some decorations. The decorations that the Grade 2s made have been hung in the tree and look amazing. Take the time to go and have a look. Special Forever Don t forget to go the Mildura Arts Centre and take a look at the Special Forever Exhibition. We have work on display by Prep C, the Grade 2s and 4V.
