The classes and children have all settled back into the routine of school very quickly despite the cold, wet and even snowy weather. Winter is certainly being felt this year! The children have been genuinely excited to see each other and their teachers after being away for the two weeks. I hope you all got the chance to visit our Annual Student Photography Exhibition over the holidays. Sharon, Tracey & Jo spent many hours helping students to select their favourite two photos to be included and setting up the exhibition we thank them for all their work. Our grade 5/6 students are very talented and the photos we have on display around the school from previous years are always commented upon by visitors to our school. Over the next few weeks many kindergarten parents will be finalising their decision about what school to send their child to in Yarram. You may find parents ask you your opinion. Word of mouth is a common way new parents use to find about a school. Please invite anyone who asks you to come and meet with me and have a look at the school. I always love sharing the wonderful facilities and community that make up St Mary s Primary school. It is also pleasing to have had families express an interest to be a part of the Rite of Catholic BOOK CLUB Initiation for Children (RCIC) program. It is available for families who would like their child(ren) baptised. It s not too late! Sporting Schools Term 3: All children will be participating in TENNIS, with a visiting coach in attendance for the final 5 weeks of term. Winter Sports Day: Congratulations to all students who participated in the Winter Sports Day last term. The feedback was very positive and the comments about sportsmanship and student involvement was extremely pleasing, a GREAT EFFORT everyone. A big thank you to Sheldon Lazaroo and Jakob McDonald from Prom Coast Soccer Club, Mandy Sutton and Stephen Papworth who came and assisted with the soccer activities on the day, Nigel Shaw who took the Touch Football session at St. Mary s and Belinda Williams for her encouragement to students and Tracey, Sharon, Mrs Ware, Mr Sheedy and Mrs Moore who assisted with the running of various sports on the day. Keep Active and Have Fun. Heather Flynn LIBRARY DAY Library day is every Wednesday. Mrs. Tuohy has a fantastic range of new books to read. Tuesday 26 th July All students will be involved in helping plant vegetables in the vegetable garden Please wear your sports uniform

3 EISTEDDFOD 2016!!! The Arts has the power to transform the heart, soul, mind and spirit of each child. Our involvement in The Yarram Eisteddfod allows our school to extend our learning beyond the classroom into the wider community. The Arts Curriculum includes Dance, Drama, Music & Visual Arts. The English Curriculum explores different ways of expressing emotions including verbal, visual, body language and facial expressions, enriching reading and oral language skills and engaging an audience. All children at St. Mary s are encouraged to learn & recite a poem. Grade P/1 - singing Click go the Shears. Grade 2/3 Bob the Kelpie. Grade 4/5- One Act Play: Jason Quigley Falls Asleep. Grade 5/6- One Act Play: Romeo Hood and Just Plain Juliet. Senior Choir singing Love is all & The flower that shattered the stone. The Arts contributes to the development of confident and creative individuals and enriches Australian society. The Staff enjoy this special time of our year as it allows our students to shine. We will keep you informed about children s requirements including costumes and Eisteddfod time-tables. Book Club orders are due back on Thursday 28th July PARISH NEWS Mass: Sunday 17 th July 2016 at am Rite of Catholic Initiation for Children Information Session Parents who are interested in having their children baptised into the Catholic faith, are asked to contact the school office.
