2 2015 Summer Enrichment Camp The Centennial School District Summer Enrichment Camp is an opportunity for students to broaden their learning into new areas or extend their learning areas of interest during the summer months. The goal of the Summer Enrichment Camp is to provide opportunities for students to explore creative and performing arts as well as the STEM and STEAM areas as an extension to the regular curriculum. The target population for the camp includes intermediate and middle level students who will be entering grades 4-9 in the fall of The camp sessions will focus on deeper exposure and learning in these areas as well as provide an opportunity for students to work with peers who have similar interests, talents, and skills. Camp Details: Sessions will be hosted at William Tennent High School. Sessions will run Monday Thursday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Parents are responsible for providing transportation and a snack. A session fee of $55.00 is due at the time of registration for Centennial School District students. Additional material fees may also apply. See specific session for details. A session fee of $70.00 is due at the time of registration for Non-Centennial School district students. Additional material fees may also apply. See specific session for details. No online registrations. Please register in person or by mail. No cash will be accepted by mail. Payment can be made by cash or check: payable to CSD Summer Enrichment Camp. 5 Course Descriptions Session #1 July 6 July 9 Babysitting 101 Session #J10 Room F102/William Tennent High School Learn how to make monsters go away and other tricks of the trade. In this course, you we will go over how to care for children, handle emergencies, and find a babysitting job safely. Instructor: Heather Cowdrick (Mon, July 6 through Thurs, July 9) Appropriate for Grades: Entering Gr. 4-9 Maximum # of Students = 16 Cardio Jam & Healthy Living Session #J11 Aux.Gym/William Tennent High School Get ready for a heart-pumping good time! We will work up a sweat doing cardio intervals, kickboxing, step aerobics, and weight training. Students will learn about healthy eating that meets the food pyramid suggestions. In this exciting week, campers will experience everything from the design process and how to collaborate with a team to building projects that will crumble and be destroyed. Students will put together dance routines to hit songs, practice and perform center stage for an audience. Instructor: Megan Moritz (Mon, July 13 through Thurs, July 16) Appropriate for Grades: Entering Gr. 4-9 Maximum # of Students = 14 K'NEXpert Challenge Session #J21 Room E107/William Tennent High School Are you ready to build structures, test them out, and challenge classmates? You may figure out the best rollercoaster or strongest bridge. Using K'Nex, the students will brainstorm, plan, design, build, modify and evaluate models to meet specific challenges. Teams of students will learn the different aspects of simple physics and use this information to meet the Challenge of the Day! The students will be asked to design structures to hold weight, reach new heights, span large distances and accurately launch objects! This is an opportunity to explore different career paths and plan for the future. This session will also allow students to gain a realistic picture of what certain careers involve, the education required to attain these goals, and the financial impact of various career choices. This class will give students the opportunity to learn how to make easy weekly dinners for the whole family. An introduction on sanitation and culinary terminology will also be included. Making the jewelry you are wearing is fun, creative and unique. We will go through all varieties of creation from making beads to creating chandelier earrings. Students will build using Legos and then add power, light, sound, and movement to their products. The magic will begin with the student solving challenges, creating useful, real-world products, and creating culminating inventions. The students will work in groups to prototype and construction inventions. Each group will have an opportunity to present and share by the end of the session. Using a piece of literature, students will not only act out their parts, but also make their costumes and props for the play that they will be performing. Do you like game play with others? Enter the world of strategy and simulation games. In this camp we will move beyond chess to explore an entire genre of games designed to help you think ahead, analyze information, make decisions, and respond to changing situations all while having great fun with others that share your interests.
