2 4-H Style Engineers Boot Camp 4-H Style Engineers Boot Camp will take place on April 5 th -7 th at the Fayette Co. Cooperative Extension Office. The program will be held from 9:15am-3:30pm and open to youth, grades 6 th -12 th. Limited Slots are available! Participants will learn about how fashion and STEM connect in this interactive boot camp. Students will create things, do experiments, and even have a fashion show. This program is open to both boys and girls. Plus, it is completely free and is sure to be a treat! For more information on how to sign up, contact Ms. Quen at chaquenta.smith@uky.edu. Cloverbuds 4-H Cloverbud Club is going strong at the Fayette County Extension Office and we are always looking for new members! It is free to join this year and we meet the second Thursday of each month from 5-6pm at the Extension Office. This club is for youth ages 5-8 years old and a parent/guardian must be present. In previous meetings we have made 4-H ornaments for the Christmas tree, learned about rocketry with a marshmallow snack-tivity, created fun expressive art projects with paint, and more! Cloverbud Day Camp Babysitting Clinic Are you interested in babysitting? If you have never babysat or looking to hone your skills, the Fayette County Extension office will be hosting a six hour babysitting clinic at our office on May 25 th from 9am-3pm. We will be learning about qualities that make a good babysitter, infant care, child guidance, home emergencies, safety and first aid, and how to build your knowledge and skill into a business! There will be a $10.00 fee to help cover cost of supplies and lunch will be provided. Students have learned about parliamentary procedure and electing officers. After our club meeting we have an educational hands-on activity that correlates with the grade level s requirements and KY CORE. 3 Shooting Sports Club Enrollment for the 2017 Season has begun. Please go to our website to download the Enrollment Packet or stop by the Fayette County Extension Office. Rifle/Pistol practices started on February 4th at Bud's Gun Warehouse. Archery and Shotgun do not begin until April. Please see the calendar on our website for specific practice dates. Kentucky 4-H Teen Summit 4-H Community Happenings Fayette County 4-H will be participating in the Fayette County Schools Family University (FAMU) Program on March 25 th, If your child attends Fayette County Schools, be sure to check out this amazing program geared towards helping families navigate through their child s academic journey. Workshops are available for both parents and students. See Flyer for more details. 4-H Environmental Camps Fayette County 4H Environmental camps will be beginning at the end of March through the beginning of May. This year we have a total of 15 schools participating in our environmental camping program. Attention Parents Are you concerned about what your child is eating at school (ie how healthy is it? etc.) Do you wish you had a voice in the foods that are provided at school? Look no further, you can download this app, Nutrislice, and do just that. This app that allows you and your child an opportunity to provide feedback on the foods provided at school. Your voice can truly make a difference! Our Fayette County Delegates (L-to-R) Alexander Neal, Katie Christensen and Sarianna Denegri-Ditto are all smiles on their final day of the 2017 Kentucky 4-H Teen Summit. The students attended a three day middle school leadership conference held at the Kentucky 4-H Leadership Center in Jabez, KY. They attended interactive workshops, fun shops, and met other youth from across the Commonwealth. They were an amazing group and really seemed to enjoy themselves. Great job, Fayette Co. delegates! 4-H Food Engineers Program Attention Teen Leaders If you have a desire see where 4-H can take you Join one of the Kentucky 4-H Teen Leadership Boards. Kentucky now has 5 amazing boards to choose from. Fashion, Performing Arts, S.E.T., Shooting Sports and State Teen Council. Check out the website ( state_teen_boards) today for more details. The program currently has 8 participants that are learning about the wonders of Food Science and cooking tasty things along the way.
4 4-H Rabbit Club Fayette County 4-H Rabbit Club started back up in March. If you are interested, please join us on April 13th from 6-7pm at the Fayette County Extension Office. Please keep your bunny s home for the first meeting. We will meet again on May 18 th from 6-7pm. Kristen Kirkland, one of the 4-H Agents will be starting this club but we are in need of some parent volunteers who would be interested in being the Rabbit Club Leader. District 4 Teen Retreat Fayette County was represented well during the 2017 District 4 4-H Teen Retreat that took place at North Central 4-H Camp back in Late February. Thank you to our awesome teens and our dynamic adult volunteer, Mrs. Paige for an amazingly fun weekend!
5 4-H Camp Volunteers We need adult and teen volunteers in order to make our camping weeks successful. We cannot take campers to camp without adult leaders. One child or relative of an adult camp counselor per camp session goes for a 50% off camp fee. Please note all adult counselors attend camp for free. Any adult (ages 20 and above) or teen (16-19) interested in being a volunteer should contact the 4-H Office at or clsm224@uky.edu to request an application. Leestown Kappa League 4H Group The Fayette County 4-H program has been conducting monthly meeting with a male group at Leestown Middle School called the Kappa League. Participants in the group have conducted public speaking lessons, cooking, character education, teambuilding and leadership lessons. During the month of January, the 4-H program taught lessons on public speaking to get the students ready for the Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast on January 16 th. Eleven students gave speeches at the breakfast on Martin Luther King Jr. and other African American historical figures. During the month of February, students made healthy snacks with the EFNEP program assistant and 4-H agent. Other sessions have included: Decision making, Character counts, and Health Rocks. Twenty students also participated in the 3 rd annual Junior MANNRS Conference on UK s campus on December Join high schooler s, rising freshmen and above, from across the Commonwealth for this four-day, three-night conference at the University of Kentucky. Participants will have the opportunity to live in dorms, dine in The 90, attend tracks and workshops that may relate to a career or personal interest, explore Lexington with their county delegation and experience multiple opportunities for networking with peers.
