This was a learning experience for the school at large and left us more incisive and broad minded. In the assembly on Monday, 5 thdecember we had the pleasure to host Laura, a young and motivated lady living positively. On the 6 th December, she was also featured in the Daily nation. She shared her life story and opened our eyes to the real world and have a whole new perspective stigma and discrimination against PLWHIV. Geremy Nakhone & Takudzwa Nengomasha

2 We have had many activities this term. We entered under 13 boys Football team and Girls Rounders team, under 15 boys soccer and Under 15 Girls Basket ball, Under 19 boys soccer, Athletics, Swimming, Under 15 Girls Rounders in KAIISO leagues and friendlies. The teams posted good results through out the term. We also had inter-house activities in Football, Rounders, Cross Country, Basketball, culminating in Annual Sports Day 2016.This term also saw our students participate in International schools Athletics in Kasarani and our year 11 successfully complete 3 days Outdoor Pursuits at Olepolos. It has been a great experience for our students and we look forward for greater performances in term 2 where we have entered teams in Hockey and Basketball. Kindly acquire a hockey stick for your child, shin pads and mouth guard before we reopen in January 2016.We take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support.

5 It has been an exciting and fast-paced academic term for the students as well as teaching staff. We have made further strides towards improving teaching and learning, and we believe these changes are timely and will go a long way in enabling your child to maximize their academic achievement. We successfully carried out highly formalized Mid-term and End-term Examinations. It was refreshing to realize the ability of students to step up into serious study in anticipation of the examination weeks, and we hope this will stimulate the growth of a culture of self-motivated study and research amongst our students in the interludes between examinations. We began the process of enabling students to track their own progress alongside their teachers by having them own course outlines for each subject and monitoring their progress as the term unfolded. The quicker learners would study ahead of their teachers and become an additional resource to a flipped classroom situation. To further facilitate objective tracking of students performance, we did introduce the MidYIS and Yellis Computer Adaptive Baseline Tests (CABT) which our Years 8, 9 and 10 successfully took. We shall now have access to important predictive statistics per subject for each of these students, which will be useful in informing their subject choices as well as study weighting. As we set our academic systems up to enable better tracking of pupils progress, we have simultaneously set a school goal to progressively move all our students into the A* to C bracket of achievement in all their subjects. Towards the same goal, we have begun by identifying pupils who score a U grade (meaning unclassified). Any such pupils are focused into a program of consultation with their teachers with the aim of clearing their knowledge gaps and eliminate this grade. We have dubbed these remedial lessons Booster Lessons, and these are already on-going. Our Year 12 students completed their Cambridge AS-Level examinations and we await the results early January Students have enjoyed participating in several academic competitions during the term, such as the Inter-house Verse Speaking and the Inter-schools Rhino Cup Debate challenge organized by our English Department, as well as the Inter-schools Nairobi Academy Modern and Foreign Languages (MFL) Poetry Competition. In both of these, our students did extremely well, and we are proud of their achievements. Last, but certainly not least, our teaching staff continue to take part in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops and conferences both as physical meets as well as online training courses as we keep enriching our knowledge as well as tactical capacity in teaching for the benefit of your children. From the academic desk, we extend happy seasons greetings to you all, and we look forward to seeing you back for term 2 re-energized and ready to carry on with the inevitable hard work. Saul Simiyu, Deputy Headteacher-Academic The plate was full for the pastoral calendar this term. Students were kept busy in honing their skills outside the classroom walls. Each Home Room prepared a presentation for the School Assemblies. These were well thought out and based on virtues that were relevant, educative and entertaining. The Year 8 s Presented on Integrity, Year 9 s on Justice, Year 10 s on Prudence, Year 11 s on Fortitude, Year12 s on Excellence and Year 13 s on Courage. There were well researched skits and speeches that incorporated the use of IT. Students were given an opportunity to provide weekly thoughts of the week that were relevant to the student body and the community. We also offered opportunities to foster leadership qualities. Prefects were selected, Student Council and House Captains were elected after the Hustings. These students will then undertake leadership courses to help them in executing their roles smoothly. Different organisations that provide team building and life skills have been contracted by the school. The favourite one being Camp Blue Sky at Lukenya Getaway. Leaders from different sections including Senior House Captains, Senior Class Representatives, and Senior Prefects will be attending the leadership course on Saturday, 4th February 2017 and Sunday, 5 th February The boarding house (Bentley Hall) which accommodates students from different countries has experienced some innovation. The students have been well taken care of, by providing them a good home away from home and have been engaged throughout the term, with different activities during the weekends and after school. We offered different Co- curricular activities throughout the term, including Model United Nations, Sports and Games, Outdoor Pursuits, School Production (Kesho Amahoro), Cuisine, TedX, Young Investors, Digital Production, Book Club, President s Award Scheme, Middle School Model United Nations, Board Games, Debate, Modern and Foreign Languages Verse Speakingand Community Service among many others. In all these, students gave a good account of themselves. Students were involved in both Inter-House and Inter-School events. These were excellent opportunities for them to show case their talent. We took great care of them as guided by the child protection policy, where we provided a safe environment for learning and growth. The behavioural management flow chart was put in place to guide the process of rewarding and sanctioning students when necessary and this worked quite well with students being recognised for their effort in all areas of their school life with infractions being cautioned depending on the level.
