1 EDINBURGH COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION Edinburgh, Indiana February 13, 2017 The Board of School Trustees met in regular session at 6:00 p.m. on this date at the Administration Building, 202 S. Keeley Street, Edinburgh, IN with Mr. Lollar presiding. Mrs. Hamm and Mr. Hardin were absent. Also attending were Mary Sipe, Madeline Williams, Bruce Service, Jennifer Garrett, Susan Pence, Joyce Nogan, Kim Hobdy, Doug Weddle, Linda Storie, Chris Streeval, Alicia Streeval, Kyah Streeval, Kenna Streeval, Camden Streeval, Lisa Roberts, Faith Roberts, Todd Tobias, Kevin Rockey, Andrew Scholl, Dr. William A. Glentzer, Tammy Lewis and Susan Ingels. Everyone was led in prayer by Mrs. Weddle and the Pledge of Allegiance by Mr. Lollar. PRESENTATIONS A. Building Reports Mr. Scholl, East Side Elementary Principal, stated ISTEP tutoring began in January and will continue after school every Tuesday and Thursday in February until the first round of the statewide assessment begins. Approximately 25 students from each grade level work with teachers on targeted skills that will help them be successful on the ISTEP test. Mrs. Wright organized the Great Kindness Challenge Week at the end of January and it was wildly successful. Students and staff were challenged to compile 2,000 random acts of kindness during the week. East Side students ended up compiling 2411 acts of kindness and as a reward they will get to witness Mrs. Wright kiss one of Mrs. Cutter s finest goats. The 4 th grade will perform their annual Hoosier Heroes Wax Museum on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 1:30 to 2:30. Each student researches a Hoosier hero of their choice and prepares a short presentation. On the date of the wax museum, all 4 th graders stand motionless in our main hall, dressed as their hero, with a button in front of them. When a passerby steps on the button the wax figure comes to life and tells their story. Mr. Kevin Rockey, Edinburgh Middle/High School Principal, stated the conference academic meet that we hosted last year is at Hauser in two weeks. The 7 th and 8 th grade has been working on a Math focus and English focus every two weeks in home room. We take the entire 7 th grade up to one of the larger instructional rooms. The teacher will teach them on

2 Tuesday and then the rest of the week they take this back to their homerooms and work on the same skills. This gives the students a chance to work on additional skills in Math and English. Band and Choir had a Valentines Day Cabaret and was very successful. Last week was school counselor week and Mr. Rockey thanked Mrs. Foltz and Mrs. Wright for all of their hard work. Last week, the Sunshine Society sponsored Kindness Challenge Week. They had special recognitions for staff members one day and students another day. On the last day, we purposely recognized one person from each category: a staff member, David Haywood; a teacher, Mrs. Detamore; and a student, McKenna Tetrick. In conjunction with kindness challenge week, we raised money for Special Olympics and had a unified game. Sixth grade students have been working on their science projects and they are on display outside the office area. B. Students of the Month Mr. Scholl stated starting this month, we are going to acknowledge a one (1) student from each building for Students of the Month. Mr. Scholl presented the February Student of the Month for East Side Elementary; 5 th grade student Kyah Streeval. Mr. Scholl read a list of her accomplishments and presented her with a certificate. Mr. Rockey presented the February Students of the Month for Edinburgh Community Middle/High School; 12th grade student Madeline Williams and 6 th grade student Faith Roberts. Mr. Rockey read a list of their accomplishments and presented each of the students with a certificate. PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS Mr. Lollar invited public comments regarding agenda items. There were no public comments. NEW BUSINESS A. Consent Agenda 1. Minutes: Minutes of the January 9, 2017 Board Meeting. 2. Claims for Payment: Claims #8667 through and including #8784 and payroll dates of January 20, and February 3, 2017.

Personnel: Resignations accepted by Dr. Glentzer on behalf of the Board: Resignation of Shannon Coffey, Bus Driver, effective February 28, 2017; resignation of Kathy Colvia, Essential Skills Instructional Assistant, effective February 24, Recommendation to approve Donna Rutan as Middle/High School Cook effective February 14, This will be a 25 hour per week position from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday Friday. Recommendation to approve Derrick Ball as Varsity Boys Track Coach with a stipend of $1,750, Ashley Myers as Varsity Girls Track Coach with a stipend of $1,750 and Ryan Burton as Varsity Assistant Girls and Boys Track Coach with a stipend of $650 for the school year only if there are 25 or more High School participants. If there are 24 or less participants there would only be two (2) coaches and Derrick Ball and Ashley Myers would each receive $1,550. See Extra-Curricular Salary Schedule B & G. Recommendation to approve pending successful completion of background check, Deck McManaway as Assistant Varsity Softball Coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Scott Littiken as Volunteer Assistant Softball Coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Zack Burton as Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Jenna Gatti as Middle School Track Coach for the school year; recommendation to approve Bob Burton as a full time bus driver beginning February 27, 2017 at $18.08 per hour. This amount includes his prior 10 years experience with ECSC. Mr. Burton will be a route driver for four (4) hours per day, and drive the C-4 route for 2 1/4 hours per day for a total of 6 ¼ hours per day. Mr. Burton will also drive one (1) athletic event per week as needed. Recommendation to approve Shannon Coffey as a temporary bus route driver at $17.54 per hour beginning March 1, His route should be no longer than 1 ¾ hours per day. Mr. Coffey will also drive on athletic trips and field trips as needed. Mr. Coffey s hours have been cut per his request. Recommendation to approve medical leave request of Denise Mitchell from February 24, 2017 through March 24, Donations: The following donations were given for the AED project: $250 from Bo-Witt Products, Inc., $500 from Giving Hearts a Hand, $ from Edinburgh Sons of American Legion, and $100 from G Unit Core. $500 from Premium Aquatics to East Side Elementary. 5. Approval of Individual Teacher Contracts Including Stipend: Recommendation to approve teacher contracts with the stipend included. 6. Series 2015 Bond Affidavit for Payment: $2,400 to Johnson-Melloh Solutions, Inc. for hitting barn light fixtures; $2,250 to Educational Furniture, LTD for goal maintenance at Aux. Gym; $4, to Montgomery Tent & Awning for ES canopies; $ 2,578 to Educational Furniture for file cabinets; $1, to Lowe s for SB press box stairs; Mrs. Weddle moved and Mr. Rooks seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented to the Board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no.

Approval to Out-Source Mowing for East Side Elementary, Edinburgh Middle/High School and Central Office Area Dr. Glentzer stated we received two quotes and recommended we award contract to the lowest bidder, Buck s Mowing and Landscaping, LLC. Mr. Rooks moved and Mrs. Weddle seconded a motion to approve awarding the mowing contract to Buc s Mowing and Landscaping, LLC as presented to the Board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no. C. Update on Corporation Maintenance and Construction Projects Dr. Glentzer updated the Board of School Trustees on the corporation-wide maintenance and construction projects. The chiller at the High School will need a condensing fan replaced before spring. The lighting in the hitting barn has been upgraded. We are obtaining quotes for summer projects. OLD BUSINESS There was no old business. PUBLIC COMMENTS Mrs. Linda Storie read a statement on behalf of the Edinburgh Education Association: Good evening. In 1987 Norman Vincent Peale wrote an article called Let Hope Light Your Way, referring to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty to her natural beauty as she stands today. As many senate and house bills are in our legislation this week we want to keep the hope alive for public education. These bills can definitely affect all educators in the public sector. As we enter negotiations, and hopefully make some salary adjustments let us keep in mind that hope can also light our way in providing the best possible education for our students. As always EEA looks forward to negotiations. ADDITIONAL ITEMS There were no additional items.

5 BOARD INPUT Mrs. Weddle thanked the principals for their building reports and thanked everyone for coming. Mrs. Weddle congratulated the Students of the Month and stated she liked that we are having one (1) student from each building. Mr. Rooks congratulated the Students of the Month and thanked the principals for their updates. Mr. Rooks thanked the teachers for coming to the Board Meeting. Mr. Lollar congratulated the Students of the Month and thanked everyone for coming tonight. Mr. Lollar reminded everyone the next Regular Board Meeting will be March 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Rooks made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:15 p.m. Mrs. Weddle seconded.
