Congratulations to Mrs Balcon and her husband on the birth of their baby girl Amelia Isabella Balcon born on Thursday night. Both mother and baby are doing well. On behalf of the Currans Hill community I wish them all the best for the future. can t wait to start gardening and growing crops. CSIRO Currans Hill have been fortunate enough to be part of a CSIRO research study to validate a vegetable education resource that they are producing for schools. Some parents will be sent home an information sheet along with a consent form for their child to participate in the study. Students will be asked to complete a short survey. Thank you to Mrs Ward who will be coordinating this initiative as part of our new gardening program. Camden Show Bunnings Thank you so much to Nicole and the team from Bunnings Gregory Hills who worked tirelessly today to establish our new garden beds as part of a joint initiative with the school. Students from the Environment Committee and Gardening Club along with a group of staff and parents assisted to move soil and create the garden beds. As a thank you to Bunnings staff the school provided a BBQ lunch. The students Our Dance, Choir and Recorder ensembles will be performing at Camden Show on Friday. This is a great opportunity for the school to showcase and promote our great CAPA program. The troupes will be performing on the NAB stage from 2pm. Our talented Art club students have also entered several pieces into the art competition which will be displayed in the Arts and Crafts Pavilion. Thank you to Mrs Heath, Mrs Harrington, Mrs Thomspon, Mrs Grenfell, Mrs Cavanagh and Mrs Garney for providing this opportunity for our students. Parents and carers are welcome to attend. If you are heading out to the show this weekend have a wonderful time! Dogs on School Grounds I would ask that all parents and carers refrain from bringing dogs onto the school site unless the dog has been classified as an assistance

2 animal. The Companion Animals Act provides that dogs are prohibited from school grounds whether they are leashed or unleashed. It is an offence which carries a penalty ranging from $1,100 to $11,000 depending on whether the dog is designated a dangerous breed or not. Whilst most dogs are friendly and pose no threat, some children and adults have a realistic fear of dogs so I would ask that we ensure the safety of all students by not having dogs on site. Earn and Learn Last year we participated in the Earn and Learn program with Woolworths. As a result of the contributions from the community we were able to purchase a number of new toys for students to use during lunch time. Mrs Said and Mrs Thompson had great fun opening the boxes. It was just like Christmas!! 360 Reflection Tool Currans Hill will be participating in a survey on customer service and communication with the school community. A number of school stakeholders including teaching and nonteaching staff, parents and students will be asked to complete an online survey which the 360 Survey team will collate. They will then present their findings to the school to help inform our future practices. P & C Meeting The annual AGM and P&C meeting will be held this Wednesday night in the staffroom from 7pm. Mrs Said and Mrs Dana Wilson will present some information to parents about Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) and I will also table the Annual School Report and School Strategic Plan for discussion following our meeting with the Director on Friday. All are welcome to attend. Harmony Day Next Wednesday is Harmony Day. It s an opportunity to celebrate our diversity, sense of belonging and respect for all people. 21% of our students have a language background other than English. Almost half of Australians were born overseas or have a parent who was. Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live as we can enjoy different foods, ideas, music, art and culture from all over the world. As part of Harmony Day students are encouraged to wear orange accessories such as socks, hair ties, scarf, badge, ribbon or glasses. Traditionally orange relates to freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Students will participate in Harmony Day lessons around the message everyone belongs. Coles Thank you to everyone who is collecting the Coles Sport in School Vouchers. Keep the vouchers coming! Easter Mufti Don t forget that our P & C are holding an Easter Mufti this Thursday, 15th ch. Children can dress in mufti clothes in exchange for bringing an Easter egg which will be collected on the morning. The P&C will then make up yummy Easter baskets full of eggs for the Easter Raffle. Don t forget to keep working on your hat, headband or mask for the parade. Be as creative as you like but I would encourage parents not to put chocolate eggs on hats as they tend to melt very quickly! Campbelltown City Challenge Walk Congratulations to Ben and Matt W on finishing first in the 8-10 years and year old category respectively for the 11km Endurance Walk at Mt Annan Botanical Gardens on Sunday. This is the second year in a row that the boys have won the event! What a fantastic effort! Rugby League 7 s Good luck to our ior and Senior Rugby League teams who are competing today in the 7 s tournament at Narellan. Thank you to Mr Weir, Mrs Kemp for coordinating this event and to our parents for assisting on the day. Mrs Prakesh Easter Mufti Day Our hard working P&C committee have organised a Easter Mufti Day for this Thursday 15th ch Students are asked to donate an Easter Egg to add to the Easter baskets which will be raffled in coming weeks. Donations will be collected from the COLA area Thursday morning. Students are to wear appropriate sun safe clothing and appropriatre footwear. Easter Raffle tickets will be sent home with student by the end of this week. Year 7, 2019 Expresssion Of Interest High School Forms An information guide and expression of interest form for parents and carers was sent home last week. The form will contain your childs' name and designated local high school as per the information you have supplied to Currans Hill Public School. Every Year 6 student MUST return a form. If your child does not require a placement at a Government Secondary School please complete and sign Section E of the form. All forms MUST be returned to the front office no later than Friday 16th ch Harmony Day 2018 Wednesday 21st ch, 2018 is Harmony Day. It's a day to celebrate our cultural diversity, inclusiveness and respect. The message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs. Within their classes students will be participating in activities that incorporate diversity in Australia and the importance of living together in harmony, peace and understanding. Students are to wear full school uniform on the day, but are encouraged to wear an orange accessary (socks, ribbon, hair ties, hat etc) to promote the day. Mrs Quinn 2018 ICAS Competition - Permission Notes Available From The Front Office The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is an independent, quality skills-based assessment program which rewards and recognises achievement. ICAS gives you broad insights into your child s performance across English, Mathematics, Science, Digital Technologies, Spelling and Writing. ICAS (sometimes referred to as the UNSW assessments) has been developed by Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) since When your child takes part in ICAS assessments, we can track their learning as they progress from year to year. It also helps us identify potentially gifted students and those who may need more focused and purposeful teaching to achieve their best.
