2 Dear Parents/Guardians Welcome to Term 4. Staffing Congratulations to Ms Rose Tyson, who will be Acting AST of Grade 8 and to Mrs Katie Wightman, who will be Grade Leader of Grade 8. Congratulations also to Mr Luke Padgett, who has won the position of Behavioural Learning Leader for Learning Services North. Welcome to Mrs Jeannette Dalton (0.4 AST) who joins the Grade 8 team and welcome back from leave to Mr Sean Harris, who will join the Grade 9 team when Mr Luke Padgett commences his new role. Welcome back also to Mr Phil and Mrs Sharon Parish, who have been on long service leave and to Mr Richard Gregory, who has been on sick leave. Sincere sympathy to friends and past students and families who remember a past teacher of Kings Meadows, Mrs Heather Barrenger, who passed away recently. Trivia Night Congratulations Congratulations to the 2015 Prefect Board and to the Prefect Co-ordinator, Mrs Jenny Camplin for a very successful Trivia night. This was a fun and entertaining evening enjoyed by approximately 100 students, parents, staff and representatives from the Kings Meadows business and community organisations. Thank you to Mr David Lay for hosting the evening and to Mr Thor Pedersen and Miss Alice Howell for organising and supervising students with refreshments and catering. Thanks also to Mrs Robyn Bowyer-Bower for keeping score on the evening and Mrs Marlena Knight for organising the questions!! Many thanks to families who donated prizes for the silent auction, balloons and raffle. Teddy Bear s Picnic On Wednesday students from Grade 9 & 10 Child Studies and Working with Children flexible program participated in the Northern Playgroup Teddy Bear Picnic in City Park. Students planned activities and worked with young children in the community. Thanks to Mrs Mel Towns for organising the event. Congratulations to the students who displayed such enthusiasm and skill on the day. Redevelopment Update Plans by 6ty have been finalised for the 7.1 million dollar redevelopment and tenders for builders will go out to tender soon. The plans are on display in the administration foyer for viewing. Demolishing of the first floor of B block will begin in December, with Grade 9 and 10 classes able to occupy the redeveloped space at the end of June Work will begin at Easter 2016 on the current library. This will be redeveloped into classrooms to house Grade 8 and will be ready for use in September Finally, C block will contain a redeveloped library and if funds permit the MDT area will be refurbished and work will be completed by December This week I have been before the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Public Works to answer questions about our redevelopment. Very exciting times ahead. Student Free Day Last Friday staff worked together on priorities aligned to the Kings Meadows High School Strategic Plan to assist with the planning for the rest of the year and forward planning for Teachers revised and updated learning area scopes and sequences to align with the updated Australian Curriculum. NAPLAN data for 2015 was also analysed more thoroughly. Many thanks to all teachers for their excellent participation and feedback and to Mrs Julie Pike, Mrs Kate Spencer and Ms Carolyn Abraham for leading sessions. Basketball Competition Five basketball teams represented Kings Meadows High School last weekend at the Northern High School Basketball Tournament. Teams consisted of a Grade 7/8 boys, a Grade 7/8 girls, a Grade 9/10 girls and two Grade 9/10 boys. Congratulations to all students who participated and represented the school in an excellent manner. Thanks to Mr Adrian Dean, Mr Jason Gunn, Mrs Abbi Dean, Mr Rob Pearce and Ms Rachelle Carr for coaching these teams. Uniform Shop and Orders At the end of last term the School Association and school community farewelled uniform shop manager Lauralae Timoko. Lauralae has worked tirelessly for the past 3 years, running a very successful, well-resourced uniform shop, which in turn has ensured that students are always well-presented in uniform. Congratulations to Ms Tammy Butterworth, who will be the new manager. I would like to encourage parents to pre-order uniform supplies in the next week. Orders take up to six weeks to be filled and pre-ordering with payment ensures uniforms arrive in conjunction with book sales, which is in time for the start of the school year. Pre-order details are contained later in the newsletter. Ellis Dickenson - for always following the ROCKS and his positive contributions to school culture. Grade 10 Brittany Roy - for consistently displaying our school wide expectations to a very high standard and being a role model to her peers. Caleb Bushing - for his mature and responsible approach to school life and being a positive role model.

4 Dance Fever Report On Wednesday 23 rd and Thursday 24 th September, 18 students represented Kings Meadows High School at Launceston College s annual Dance Fever. This year s show was titled Moments. On Thursday, 24 th September, all remaining Dance students from Grades 8, 9 and 10 went and watched this amazing show. All of the girls performed to a high standard and really enjoyed the experience of being part of such a big show. Many Grade 8 students are now really excited about being able to be part of it next year! Congratulations to all of the girls involved! Mrs Selby

Any enquiries please ring the office on Kings Meadows High has been invited to participate in the F1 in Schools Australian Finals in Penrith, NSW in February 2016, after having just competed in the State Finals last week. We will be represented by: Zakk King, Matthew Brophy, Claire Coleman, Alex Davis and Owen DaRos. These students will be involved in many formal interviews, discussing community collaboration in their teams portfolios and design concepts, along with their ability to gain financial support for their team and how they promoted supporting businesses. There are also many timed races involving their car. If any families have businesses which would be prepared to support these students in representing Tasmania, either through financial donations, or through the supply of specific items which could be used as part of a large Christmas raffle, then this would be greatly appreciated. 9 Girls AFL Football Girls AFL football hit our school this year- 24 girls, all decked out in our school football uniform and boots, represented our school in a Northern High Schools tournament involving teams from Riverside, Queechy, Prospect, Scottsdale, Exeter, Star of the Sea and Brooks High School. Competitions was fierce throughout the day, with the girls not only displaying some fantastic skills but also a strong commitment to winning contested ball situations. Schools played 4 matches, with each game consisting of 2x 15 minute halves. Our school was very successful winning our first 3 matches, before losing the grand final to Queechy. This was a fantastic performance in our first AFL Girls competition. 10 It has been a massive weekend of Basketball for many of our students! So many very close games today. Our junior boys lost their semi final by 2 points with 0.7 seconds left on the clock and then lost their play off game by 1 point and our Grade 9 boys had a draw! Well done to all team members! A big thank you to those members of our school community (staff, parents and friends) who supported our teams by coaching, officiating or supporting. A special mention and thank you to Rachelle Carr and Rob Pearce for coaching teams and to Sue Jones for her great photography skills. Go The Meadows! 1982 was a good year for sport at Kings Meadows. The records show that 16 students were selected for State teams in a wide variety of sports. These included hockey, athletics, snooker, football, swimming, basketball, soccer and volleyball.

11 City of Launceston and Playgroup Tasmania Children s Week Awards CONGRATULATIONS to RYAN ALLWOOD who has won the Endeavour Award as part of the annual Children s Week Awards. Ryan accepted his award on Tuesday 27 October at the Town Hall. Don t throw your empty detergeant bottles away, our Home Ec Department would love them. AMC (Australian Maritime College) and Metal Minds Robotics Team are bringing RoboCamps to Tasmania in RobCcamps are a unique and innovation way to engage children in STEM. RoboCamps are run by FIRST Australia, part of the largest robotics for sport organisation the world. The camps are run professionally with fun and education at the very core of what we do. The Intermediate RoboCamp is for the Tech Wiz, for those who ve used the NXT/EV3 Robot before. Ready for a Challenge? For Ages years. All mentors are Police and Working with Children checked. Dates: Saturday 16th January. 23rd January and 30th January. Cost per day is $85.
