1 DAYBORO STATE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER No: 38_20 NOVEMR 2018 Dear Parents and Caregivers, Final Assembly Time Our final assembly for the term will be held on Thursday13 December commencing at 12.00pm. At this time, our new school leaders will be announced to the school community. Everyone is welcome to attend. Assemblies will continue each Monday until the end of the school year. Classes for Next Year- New for 2019 Classes for next year are being developed and will be available on Thursday 24 January from 8.30am outside the School Administration. All classes are DRAFT until the Day 8 School Staffing Census and are subject to change. On the same morning between 9:00-10:00am, teachers will be in their classrooms and the opportunity is available for parents and students to meet teachers and drop off book packs. This will be the only time available as teachers will be involved in a Student Free Day program at all other times. School Leaders Selection Process Continuing The nominees for the position of School Captains for 2019 will present their speeches to students in Year 3-6 on Thursday 22 November from 11:50am. A total of 17 students have nominated for the four positions. It is certainly wonderful to see so many students nominating and willing to be school leaders in After the speeches are presented, students in Years 3-5 will be invited to vote by ballot, from which a shortlist will be created with successful shortlisted candidates progressing to an interview in coming weeks. Parents are welcome to attend the speech presentations. Next Monday after assembly, students in Years 3-6 will go to their Sports House Groups to hear short presentations from students nominating to be Sports Captains or Vice-Captains in Again a ballot will be conducted and preferences for all leadership positions will be considered before a final announcement of all the new school leaders is made on assembly on Thursday 13 December. Garry Drummond, Principal FROM THE DEPUTY S DESK Thank you to the Year 6 teachers and Kev Enchelmaier who accompanied Dayboro State School students on the Year 6 camp to Luther Heights at Coolum Beach last week. Everyone poured off the bus on Friday looking tired but happy. Congratulations to all students on their excellent behaviour and enthusiastic participation on camp. Students and teachers will have memories that will last a lifetime. You did Dayboro proud! STEAM Excursion to PRSHS 25 excited students from Year 3 to Year 6, nominated by their teachers, will be visiting Pine Rivers State High School on Wednesday as part of an Extension Program involving Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts and Mathematics. Mrs Wilkinson will be accompanying them. The program for the day will be Crash Test Cars. Students are reminded to wear school uniform and bring a hat, water and a packed lunch and meet Mrs Wilkinson in the CSA at 8:45 am. Junior Swimming Carnival Students in Prep to Year 2 are greatly looking forward to the Junior Swimming Carnival this Friday at the Dayboro Pool, arriving at 8:45 am for a 9 am start. Students not going directly to the pool with their parents on Friday morning, will be walked down to the pool by their teachers. They will need a school uniform to change into if they are returning to school. All information, including the timetable for the day, has been included in a parent permission note sent home two weeks ago. Parents please note: If you plan to take your child/ children home with you directly after the carnival, please ensure you let your child s teacher know and have signed your child out on their teacher s class list. Your children s safety is our highest priority. Year 5 Parents- A big thank you to Mrs Burns, a Yr 5 parent, for offering to help serve food at the Yr 6 Graduation. More helpers are still needed. Date: Wednesday 12 th December, after school. The food has all been organised and will be prepared, we just need some helpers to supervise the serving of food to the Yr 6 students and to help clean up after. It would only be for a couple of hours. Please contact Mrs Smith at the office. Dayboro s Got Talent continued last week with Year 1 students showing us their talents. This week it is the Prep students turn to show us how talented they are. Tuesday 11:20-11:50 in the hall. Parents of Prep 2019 are invited to come along for the next 2 Monday mornings from 9-9:30am to continue to learn about what happens at Prep. We look forward to seeing you all there. 2 Prep 2019 A reminder that parents of Prep students enrolling for 2019 should ask their Kindy/Daycare providers to provide a Transition Statement to the school that contains important information to our Prep teachers about your child s early childhood journey. The Kindy and local daycare providers require your signed consent to these Transition Statements to the school. Once you have signed the consent form they can then us these statements ready for next year. Our Prep teachers find these reports very helpful for providing the best start for your child in Prep in 2019.

If you are walking to the pool under teacher supervision, you will need to be at school by around 8:30am If you are meeting us at the pool with your parents, you may arrive there from 8:45am There will be a BBQ and drinks stall at the pool for lunch and refreshments. Thank you so much to those who have volunteered to help with the time-keeping! This is very much appreciated. You should receive a confirmation letter about your role today. Linda Smith, Acting Deputy Principal SWIMMING CARNIVAL The senior swimming carnival takes place next Tuesday 27 th November, starting at 9:00am. We aim to be finished by around 2:30pm. The carnival program is finalised, and sessions of novelty races have been included. All families are welcome to attend and cheer on the children, and remember that both participants and spectators are free. Come along and enjoy the carnival atmosphere! Children, please remember the following details though: Bring lunch, sunscreen, hats, plenty of water and sun safe swimming gear If you are walking back to school with the teachers, make sure you have school clothes and enclosed shoes to change back into We have had a wide selection of new books added to our Library collection over the last few weeks. Students frequently request new titles that they would like to read, and we have been able to purchase some of these requested titles, such as Hot Dog #5 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Meltdown through Book Club. When families make a purchase through Book Club, the Library earns reward points that can be used to purchase books the students would like in the Library. We would like to thank Cara for her work as our Book Club Coordinator in order to make this process possible. This week will be our final week for issuing Library loans for If students currently have overdue loans, we would appreciate it if these books could be returned as soon as possible. Books can be returned to the library during any lunch break, students do not need to wait until their class visits the library to return their books. Students have been busy creating Cubelet robots in the Makerspace at lunch time. These robots are pieced together with blocks that perform specialised tasks such as motors, lights, proximity sensors, temperature sensors, etc. The students using the Cubelet robots during lunch times have been surprised with the way their creations behave. Thank you for your continued support, Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs H. Book Club Reminder. All students should have received a copy of our final issue of Book Club for If you would like another copy of the brochure, please pop into the school office for one. All orders need to be returned to school or placed on-line using LOOP by the 30 th of November to help us ensure that books are delivered prior to the school holidays. 3 There is a wide selection of titles available in the brochure. Wednesday Friday TUCKSHOP NEWS ROSTER Rebecca D Angela F NO TUCKSHOP Junior Swimming Carnival LONG TABLE LUNCH - Friday 7th December If you didn't receive a long table lunch menu please collect one ASAP from Tuckshop on Wednesday or Friday this week. Orders close Wednesday 3rd December, but to make things a lot easier for me, I would prefer they came in by Friday 30th November if at all possible. A request for helpers will be in next week's newsletter - people to collect tables and chairs from around town and return them, volunteers to help in kitchen on the day etc. This will also be on the facebook pages shortly. Menu will be up on Flexischools in the next day or two, so that you can place your orders there as well. P&C NEWS School Leaders As we get close to the end of this current school year, the process of selecting our new school leaders for 2019 will commence this week. As P&C President, I look forward to being part of the selection process in conjunction with our school staff over the coming weeks. Volunteer Helpers Morning Tea (30 November) - P&C will be catering for this special morning tea to thank all the many and varied Volunteers who assist our school throughout the year. Thank you to all volunteers - your school and P&C greatly appreciate your ongoing efforts! P&C is now registered for the recently introduced Containers for Change recycling program - Please consider contributing to P&C s ongoing efforts to support our school if you are considering being involved in this special new recycling 10c refund program. P&C s scheme ID for you to use so as to make contributions is: C School Banking in One of our current School Banking Convenors is stepping down at the end of this year and it will be vital that a small band of willing There is NO TUCKSHOP in the last week of school. Mrs T. 4 BANKING NEWS SCHOOL BANKING - EVERY TUESDAY Every 10 deposits you are entitled to pick a reward. This week we made $267 worth of deposits. Don t forget for every 10 school banking deposits per student the Commonwealth Bank gives the school $5. There will be no banking in Week 8 (27 November) due to the Senior Swimming Carnival. For banking to continue in 2019 we need to find people who can commit to volunteer their time next year to the task. A couple of hours free one morning each week of term is all that s required.
