1 WWES NEWS Dr. Williams Principal Mrs. Parisi Assistant Principal Mr. Sawa School Counselor December 15, 2017 I've been reminded recently, not that I'd forgotten, that we have a wonderful, caring staff here at the Woods. My 92-year-old mother has needed some extra time and medical attention lately. That's caused me to be away from school more than normal, more than I like. But I think you and I have the utmost confidence in this staff--office team, support staff, and teachers. My absence has helped me remember how blessed I am: working with our great staff, serving this wonderful school community, having family nearby and having access to medical care for them. I hope my joy shows every day. We want to share our holiday card with you--it's on page 2 of today's newsletter. We have fun coming up with the card every year, and we think you'll like this one. Remember that next Thursday is a busy day: last day before break, Annual Sing-along, and classroom parties. For many of us, the Sing-along is a special highlight of the year. Parents and families are welcome to join us. Here's all we ask: Check in through the office and try to be seated by 1:45. Once the program ends, allow all classes to dismiss for their winter parties. Remember that space and supplies are limited, so please respect that the parties are for students Maybe this is just in time for holiday gift-giving! Next Monday you'll receive a packet of information about Pacers tickets that can be purchased to help our school. We're really hoping to put together a big group for our School Night, Jan. 29, but buying tickets for certain other games will also benefit Washington Woods. Please take a look at the packet--this might be just the stocking-stuffer you were looking for! As we head into the holidays, you and your child might be wanting to give a gift to teachers and other staff. One of the best possible gifts is a handmade, hand-written card. Cookies and gift cards are kind gestures, but they come and go. The personal card will find a treasured place for years. Thanks for your support--have a good weekend. -Dr. Williams Blog:

3 The Washington Woods Marketplace Begins on Monday, December 18th. Third and Fourth grade students volunteered to make items such as jewelry, bracelets, and bookmarks, as well as have donated books. During each grade level's recess Monday-Wednesday (while supplies last), students will have the opportunity to come shop at the Marketplace. All proceeds will be donated to a charity of our Student Lighthouse's choosing. Please send in some money with your child if you would like them to shop at the Marketplace. Most things will sell for $1.00 each. Bookmarks will be sold 2 for $1.00. Coffee Talk with Dr. Grate Westfield Washington Schools Superintendent Dr. Sherry Grate will be hosting Coffee Talk once a month at various locations around town. Coffee Talk is designed to be an open dialog with Dr. Grate and the community on anything WWS related. No set agenda - just coffee talk! Here is the schedule for the rest of the year. 6 Elementary Student Nutrition News: December 15, 2017 Did you Know: The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 regulates what we can and cannot serve for Lunch and Breakfast at school. Each month we will feature a component from the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. Schools must offer at least two choices within the Low-Fat 1% Milk and Fat-Free Milk with the flexibility to offer additional milk options to ensure children receive the nutrients provided by milk. At Westfield Washington Schools, we serve Fat-Free Chocolate, Strawberry and Skim White Milk; as well as, 1% Low-Fat White Milk. Did you know that we always have a hot vegetable available every day? The Garden Bar Options have a selection of Fruits and Vegetables where the students can choose what they like. We serve items like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi, grapes, bananas, oranges, apples and other assorted fruits and vegetables every day. They can take 1/2 cup serving of a fruit and/or vegetables or up to 1 full cup of a fruit and /or vegetable with their main choice.
