Donated supplies requested include: Medical gloves (small/medium) A mini refrigerator Paper towel and toilet paper rolls (no paper remaining on them) Metal or wood marbles (ball bearings/wooden craft) What we are learning and big assignments: 6th Grade: We are starting our unit on Energy in the Ecosystem. Notes should be reviewed every night for 10 min. 7th Grade: This week we are studying more on body systems. Notes should be reviewed every night for 10 min. The date of the upcoming test is February 2nd. 8th Grade: We are working on balancing chemical equations. Notes should be reviewed every night for 10 min. Upcoming events and deadlines: 6th Grade: Ecosystems Part 1 Due February 5 7th Grade: Body Systems Overview Due February 10

3 Page 23 Social Studies with Mrs. Hughes x514 All Classes The next Continuation meeting for 8 th grade parents will be Monday, February 8 th at 4:45pm. Pearson Login this is for Realize and SuccessNet Plus User names: cpafirstname.lastinitial Passwords: CPAlunchcode They must have internet access on a nightly basis as we will be relying on our digital texts as well as an online classroom forum called Google Classroom. Please make a plan so that students can finish homework on time. Please make sure you have access to Infinite Campus for grade information. Please have your student show you our Google Classroom if you would like to know what is going on. 6 th Grade Social Studies The United States and Canada Essential Questions: How do you measure success? The test for this unit was today. We will begin our unit on Canada this week. 7 th Grade Social Studies Ancient Southwest Asia and Africa Essential Question: How much does geography affect people s lives? This week we will continue looking at Ancient Egypt and Nubia. 8 th Grade Social Studies The Revolution Essential Question: When is war justified? We will continue looking at the beginning of the war and the Declaration of Independence. We will be changing up how we are covering the content to give some differentiation to the class. There won t be as much computer work during this lesson. Continuation Info Our next meeting is on Monday, February 8 th at 4:45. An blast went out with information on dress code and pictures a couple of weeks ago. Weighted Grades I do weight my grades for academic classes as follows: Tests/Projects = 40% Quizzes/Homework/Classwork = 35% Notes/Participation/ = 25% This does make it so that you can t add up their total number of points and divide it by the total points possible and calculate a correct grade. Please me if you have any questions.

We will also practice analyzing poetry and spend time and preparing for a poetry test on Thursday. In addition, students will spend time learning new vocabulary words in their Rev It Up workbooks. 2/1/16: Spelling Test #15, 2/4/16: Rev It Up pgs Due, 2/5/16: Poetry Test 7 th Grade This week we will continue our unit on the novel Enrique s Journey. We will also practice analyzing poetry. In addition, students will complete assignments in their Word Wisdom workbooks. 2/1/16: Spelling Test #15, 2/3/16: Word Wisdom Unit 5 Part 1 Due, 2/4/16: Vocabulary Quiz Unit 5 Part 1 8 th Grade This week we will continue our unit on the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. We will also practice analyzing poetry. In addition, students will complete assignments in their Word Wisdom workbooks. 2/1/16: Spelling Test #15, 2/3/16: Word Wisdom Unit 5 Part 1 Due, 2/4/16: Vocabulary Quiz Unit 5 Part 1 7th Grade Math, Pre-Algebra, and Geometry with Ms. Wood Stephanie.wood@crownpointeacademy.org ext. 512 This week in 7th Grade Math we will have our Unit 4 Review and take our Unit 4 Test on Wednesday, February 3rd. We will then review Galileo concepts for 7th Grade the rest of the week. In 8th Grade Math we will have a catch up day on Monday, and move into translations on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we will review Galileo Concepts for 8th Grade. In Geometry we will have a quiz on on Monday. We will then work on systems of equations for a couple days and then 8th Grade Galileo concepts the rest of the week.

We will look into Order of Operations and take a Module 9 Quiz on Thursday. 8 th Grade Math- We start Module 9 this week. We will switch gears and investigate transformations this week. Transformations are what happens to objects when they change position in the coordinate plane. We will go through this week. Algebra- We continue on into the exciting world of factoring this week. We will be factoring trinomials by the end of the week! Since there is a test portion and written portion, I am allowing students to use two days to complete it. When everyone has completed the final, we will finish the year with a few creative writing activities. Students must make sure missing work is submitted by the end of the week if they want to receive partial credit! 6th Grade- Today, students will be taking their final exam. This week, we will spend Monday reviewing our commas quiz that we did not do so well on. I will offer a retake on Friday. Additionally, we will begin a short poetry unit to break up our MLA study and our next big essay. This poetry unit focuses on expression in poetry. We will write both structured and unstructured poetry, and students will use these poems to create a "CD" for their own fictional band/artist. This is a fun project that will culminate with a "Grammy Awards" ceremony.

Until the previous quarter s requirements are met no new credit will be given. Students will receive 20 points for each completed half hour of service in the quarterly requirement. Additional half hours are credited to the following quarter up to the 10 hour requirement. Once the 10 hour requirement is met the student will receive a 100% for that quarter and all following quarters. A log (available in Mrs. Hughes room) must be completed for each month s service and turned in to Mrs. Hughes room. Partial half hours will receive no credit. Hours turned in after the quarterly deadline will be counted toward the total in the next quarter.
