2 Pathways When students finish Yr 11 there are a number of pathways they can take: Academic study at 6 th form or college (e.g. A levels/btecs) Vocational study at college (e.g. Engineering at Middlesbrough College) Apprenticeships (GCSE equivalent) or Advanced Apprenticeships (A Level equivalent) Employment with training

3 Nunthorpe Sixth Form Nunthorpe Sixth Form offers: Level 3 courses for students who have gained a minimum of 5 GCSEs at A*-C. (We can offer resit maths or English GCSE for students who have a grade D). The large majority of courses on offer are A levels which often require a grade B in certain GCSE subjects. Certain courses have an entry test at the start of Y12 which will need to be passed to be accepted onto the A level. The large majority of our students have at least 8 GCSEs at grade C or above. Over 85% of our students go on to university; the remainder go onto an Apprenticeship or employment.

11 Other Qualifications At Nunthorpe we also offer some extra courses: Extended Project (equivalent to an AS) in Y13 Peer Mentoring Counselling Qualification in Enrichment

12 Extended Project This is where students research any topic at all they are interested in and write a 5000 word essay/or produce an artefact (e.g. video/model/performance) with a 2000 word report. Example topics: Do violent films incite violent crimes? Plastic surgery: necessity or vanity? Tattooing: the art of body modification. Was Barak Obama elected primarily because of his skin colour? Why is Drama seen as a soft option. Should the Holocaust be taught in school?

13 A Level Reforms The government is currently reforming post 16 education. All A levels will be decoupled from AS levels over the next 2 years. As changes are phased in the current intention at Nunthorpe is for all Y12 students to still take 4 subjects in Sep 2016 and continue with 3 subjects to the full A level as they go into Y13. There will be some AS exams in the summer of 2016, depending on student progress and their future study plans.

14 High Standards Our students and parents all sign a Learning Agreement which includes the following: Excellent attendance and punctuality Complete all work on time and to best of ability Mature and responsible behaviour Signing in/out to ensure safeguarding Staying on site for all Independent Study periods Suitable dress for a working environment

Sixth Form Tutors are also wearing stickers and will be happy to discuss anything to do with pastoral support.
