For our future students at Kiel High School we offer our annual Freshmen Curriculum Night. This evening is intended for students who will be a freshmen student during the school year as well as their parents/guardians. This night is quite special, for each family will be provided insight to all of our departments here at KHS. Course registration for next school year has already begun and students are starting to make choices that will positively benefit their learning as they work toward becoming college and career ready. Focusing on the recommendation that was brought forth after the completion of the initial stages of the strategic planning process that was recently completed by our school district, we will constantly look for more ways to personalize the learning of our students. The intent of this focus is to ensure that our students have the skills to be as successful as possible on the career path of their choice. Just one way we personalize the learning of our students is through our STAR assessments that are administered three times throughout the school year. The data collected from these tests allows us as a school to measure the current skill levels and overall growth in the areas of reading and mathematics for every individual student within our building. This then allows us to identify students who may need additional skill work in the identified areas, so that we can help these individuals grow as learners in all subject areas. Another way students can personalize their learning is through the opportunities available for them to get a jump on their respective career paths such as Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the Youth Apprenticeship Program. Participation within these courses and programs can save students money or even help them make money while still attending KHS. Jacob Bulitz EWC HONORS CONCERT TO BE HELD AT KHS Kiel High School is proud to host the 2014 Eastern Wisconsin Conference (EWC) Honors Music Event. The event consists of two large performing ensembles (Band and Choir) formed by selecting the most advanced and dedicated music students from the eight high schools that are currently members of the EWC. The event involves two days of activities. On the first day, students will participate in large group and sectional rehearsals on performance music. The second day students will receive instruction from a guest clinician (visiting college professor) who will direct the group at an afternoon concert. Our guest clinicians for this year will be: Professor Scott Corley (U.W. Milwaukee) - Band Dr. Randall Meder (U.W. Green Bay) - Choir The Honors Concert will be held in the KHS Gymnasium on Saturday, January 11 th at 3:30 p.m. We are sincerely hopeful that you are able to join us for this wonderful event and showcase of tremendous and young talent.

3 Page 3 of 5 KIEL FFA s TOSS THE TEDDY EVENT ANNOUNCED On the night of January 2 nd, the Raiders of Kiel High s varsity basketball team will take on the Plymouth Panthers at Kiel High school, and the Kiel FFA chapter has organized its first ever Toss the Teddy event to be held during the game. Spectators are encouraged to contribute by bringing gently used teddy bears and stuffed animals to the event, which they will later be asked to literally toss onto the court during halftime. Members of the FFA will collect these items, which will then be donated to Children s Hospital. Any contributions to this cause are highly appreciated. FRESHMEN CURRICULUM NIGHT: JANUARY 7th Incoming Freshmen Curriculum Night will be held on Tuesday, January 7 th at 6:30 p.m. at the high school. It is extremely important that all eighth grade students and their parents / guardians attend. Vital information about high school registration, course selection, and course content will be presented. Everyone will initially report to the gymnasium for opening comments and instructions for the evening by the High School Principal, Mr. Baumgartner, and the High School Freshman Counselor, Mr. Holder. Following these remarks, you will be given a schedule to follow for the remainder of the evening. Students and parents will rotate from department to department throughout the high school. In each department, teachers will give a brief presentation covering valuable information about the courses available for freshmen in their departments. Students need to hear this information in order to make informed decisions about selecting their freshmen classes. The evening s events will conclude by approximately 9:00 p.m.

4 Page 4 of 5 KHS SHOW CHOIR EMBARKS ON GOOD WILL TOUR On December 20th, the Kiel High School Waves of Rhythm Show Choir went on a Good Will Holiday Tour. The students performed at Bay Park Square Mall in Green Bay. Any donations given for their performance are to be given to the Salvation Army to benefit area families. The choir then performed at Zielanis Elementary School for the staff and students, and conducted a question and answer session with some of the students afterwards. The Show Choir finished their day performing at the Kiel Middle School for the staff and students as part of their holiday assembly. Their performance gave 8th grade students a preview of what they can participate in at the high school before they sign up for next year's classes. The shows consisted of holiday songs and show choir classics, and featured many soloists.
