In this session, Ms. Carhart will talk about maximizing eligibility through course selection, standardized test preparation, extra curricular activity selection, essays, and demonstrated interest. Get a behind the scenes look at how these colleges review applicants. Nagel Admissions Tests: SAT or ACT? Which, When, and How to Prepare Chelsea Spicer, Princeton Review College admissions test scores are an important part of the college application for many students. Reduce your stress and maximize test performance by taking the right test, at the right time, with the right preparation. In this session, you will learn the difference between the SAT and ACT, receive guidance about test timing, and be exposed to preparation tools and opportunities that students can use to perform their best. Room 208 Paying for College: Scholarships and Financial Aid Ruth Schuable, Whitworth University With college tuition alone sometimes topping $50,000 a year, scholarships and financial aid can play an important role in making a college education affordable. Learn about the difference between scholarships and financial aid, and how and when to apply for each. This session will introduce a plethora of strategies for studying and retaining information based on brain research. Physics Lab Room 110 Telling Your Story: Tips for Writing an Amazing College Essay Kenny Norris, English Department Chair The college essay is a student s opportunity to show a college his or her personality, communicate important circumstances, and showcase great writing skills. Learn how to structure a college essay, explore powerful topics, and hear tips that will help you write a compelling personal piece that will make a memorable impact on the reader. Nagel Preparing for College Work in Math, Science, or Engineering Donna Dunn, Science Department Chair, and Steven Prokopchuk, Mathematics Department Chair A wide range of fascinating careers begin with the college level study of math, science, or engineering. Learn about the academic pathways to these careers, find out what coursework to prioritize at the high school level, and learn about ways to strengthen your skills outside of the classroom.
