7 Page 7 Gifted and Talented General Screening The window for parent referral of junior high students desiring to be screened for placement into KISD s Gifted and Talented (G/ T) program, for the school year will open on November 13, Parent Checklists will be available for pick up from the counselor s office and must be returned by the firm deadline 2:35 p.m. December 6, No late checklists will be accepted. Any student who has not been screened for G/T within this school year may be referred by completing and returning the Parent Checklist. At the secondary level, students are screened based upon specific subject matter aptitude in one or more content areas. (English Language Arts, Math, Science and/or Social Studies) In the screening phase of the identification process, a combination of quantitative (standardized test scores) as well as qualitative (data gathered from parents and teachers) measures are examined. Students who meet district expectations are then eligible to participate in the subject area for which they qualify. Questions regarding G/T screening may be directed through the counseling office or to the campus G/T facilitator, Donna McCarthy at donnammccarthy@katyisd.org or Additional G/T Screening for Students Already Identified Current G/T students who are not being served in all four content areas (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies) may request screening for additional courses. Students requesting additional screening should pick up the Request for Additional Screening form from the counseling office. These forms will be due to the counselor s office by the firm deadline 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, No late checklists will be accepted. 10 Page 10 Student ipad Checkout Katy ISD is excited to provide the opportunity for our students to take home a digital device for learning. A student can check out an ipad to use for a school assignment for a one week period, excluding the Winter and Spring Breaks. If a student needs WiFi access, a Hot Spot is also available for checkout for a five day period. The student s parent or legal guardian must first meet with the assistant principal to review the KISD Student/Parent Equipment Use Agreement and sign it along with the student. This document will be kept on file for the current school year. The student will be instructed on proper use and care of the borrowed equipment. Please call the school at to set up an appointment.
