1 April 2016 CHSD117 Sequoit Signal Esteemed Sequoits, It is with mixed emotions that I compose this communication. I was recently offered and accepted the position as Assistant Principal of Student Services at Middleton High School, located outside of Madison, Wisconsin. If you know anything about me, you know how fond I am of good old Mad-Town, and my shameless plan to brain wash my children into becoming Badgers. It is with their best interest at heart that I make this difficult decision. The past three years have served me well, teaching me important lessons in humility, perseverance, and the importance of Teamwork. I walk away with a wealth of knowledge, fond memories, and the satisfaction of knowing that we made it matter each and every day. I am blessed to have served you, our students, and the Antioch community. It is an honor knowing that I will always be a Sequoit! 3 What Sequoits Are Doing! Career and Tech Ed The Introduction to Business, Consumer Education & Life Resource Management classes at Antioch Community High School will be running mock interviews on Wednesday, April 27th during periods 1, 2, 3, 6, and 8. In order to make this wonderful project a reality again this semester, we need volunteers. Can you help us provide this real world opportunity? The experience of a "real" interview is extremely valuable to our students. The interview scenario is for a first job. Our goal is to have the interviews run approximately 10 minutes per student. We will provide basic questions and a "rubric" for scoring the applicants, which I'll send to volunteers in advance. You are welcome to ask additional questions as well. Students will have resumes for you to review, and should be dressed for success. Your insight and expertise are essential to this process. We'd love to include an overview of your thoughts after the interviews in a brief open forum with the students. If we can secure enough volunteer interviewers each period, we can make this happen as well. If you are available to help during the morning or afternoon session, or have any questions, please let me know. My is donna.corcoran@chsd117.org. The class times are listed below. Thank you for considering this opportunity to help us prepare our students for career success. *NOTE: Although no class will be interviewing 7th hour, there is a place for you to rest, work, or chat, and WIFI is available. English April finds seniors in Comp or AP classes kicking into high gear as they are finishing the writing portion of their I-Search. Please encourage your student(s) to do their best work and turn everything in on time. The I-Search is the culminating activity of their English experience. April 23rd is the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. The Chicago area is celebrating with Shakespeare 400 programs. Restaurants, theaters, music venues, and other sponsors are offering a wide variety of opportunities to enjoy the man and his work. If your student (and you?) attend anything related to Shakespeare, they can earn extra credit in English class. We would like to thank Ms. Kat Giertych for her dedication and hard work to make Writers Week successful again this year. Slam poets, journalists, musicians, novelists, and various other writers performed and workshopped for students the week after break. Students were excited to get to see how the written word affects everything around them. Page 3

4 Student Services Information AP Testing Information Dear Parent and Student: This year s Advanced Placement Exams are drawing near. Exams will begin on Monday, May 2nd, and will conclude on Friday, May 13th. This memo is to remind you and your student of the mandatory pre-admission meetings on Tuesday, April 12 th. This year there will be two sessions of the pre-admission meeting. Freshman, sophomore and junior students registered for an AP exam will meet in the school café during 2nd period. Senior students registered for an AP exam will meet in the school café during 3rd period on April 12 th. Students should report directly to the cafeteria at the beginning of either 2nd or 3 rd hour and have several #2 lead pencils with them. We will review times for exams, locations of exams, and lunch schedules, as well as complete identifying information on their initial answer sheet. I have included a copy of the test schedule with this letter. It is imperative that students know the time and location of their exams. Please urge your students to be punctual. All morning exams will start promptly at 7:30 a.m. (even on late start days) and the afternoon exams will start promptly at 11:30 a.m. (even on late start days).
