2 Welcome back to St Andrew s Sport for another exciting year of Sport. This year looks like it will once again be a year of wonderful participation and exposure to great sporting opportunities both during school and also before and after school hours. I encourage as many students as possible to get involved in sport at the College and make the most of what it has to offer. The St Andrew s Secondary School Sport Program is made up of four different strands Curriculum Sport afternoon (compulsory) Co-Curricular Sport (non compulsory) Representative Carnivals Inter House Sporting events Contained in this booklet is information on: 1. Curricular Sport (during school time) 2. Co-Curricular Sport (before, after and weekend sport) A few reminders for All students will require their Red sports uniform for their Sport afternoon Year 9/10 each Tuesday: 1:45 3:00pm Year 7/8 each Thursday: 1:45 3:00pm Students are permitted to wear this uniform to and from College. Students will require their coloured House shirts for HPE lessons. Students are required to change back into day uniform on PE days 2.All students are required to have a hat and water bottle for Sport and HPE. 3.All information is also available on our website 4.We aim to make the sport experience at St. Andrew s as positive, helpful and supportive as possible for every student. This form is ed to all students and families prior to the start of the Term. Year 7 and 8 each Thursday 1.45pm 3pm Year 9 and10 each Tuesday 1.45pm - 3pm Students will opt for 1 sport per term throughout the year. Students who are representing the College in Sport are required to opt for that Sport for their Sport afternoon. e.g Girls playing Netball for the College are required to opt for Netball in Term 1 for their Sport. Sports are chosen each term (via online forms) and students are given their first choice wherever possible. Please note that we are limited in the number of students who can participate in some sports like Stand Up Paddling and Sailing. 6 The House system is very strong at St Andrew s and our students revel in Inter-House competition. There are various House events and carnivals that take place throughout the year years House Athletics Carnival The House Swimming Carnival takes place at the end of Term 4 in our new pool. The event is a whole School event and all students will take some part in the carnival. Students will swim in divisions against other students of a similar ability. Medallions are given out to the top three performing students in each age group. The Swimming Team will compete against other Sunshine Coast Independent schools. Students in Year 6 turning 12 in 2019 also compete at this carnival. The House Athletics Carnival takes place at the Senior School during Term 3. Students compete in their age groups across 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, javelin, triple jump and relays. All students take part in the carnival and, in doing so, contribute to their House total. Students will race in divisions against other students of a similar ability. Medallions are given out to the top three performing students in each age group and students who perform well on the day are chosen to represent St Andrew s in Athletics Team in competition against other Sunshine Coast Independent schools. Students in Year 6 turning 12 in 2019 also compete at this carnival years House Swimming Carnival Inter School Carnivals

7 12-18 years House Cross Country Carnival The House Cross Country takes place at the end of Term 1. The event takes place at the College with the course also incorporating the whole College grounds. Students run in their age groups from Under 12 through to Under 18. All students run 3km. All students take part in the carnival and, in doing so, contribute to their House total. Medallions are given out to the top three performing students in each age group and students who perform well on the day are chosen to represent St Andrew s in the Cross Country Athletics Team in competition against other Sunshine Coast Independent schools There are a number of other Cross Country events throughout the year..

8 SPORT REPRESENTATION 2019 for students turning Last year an incredible 130 students from St. Andrew s were selected to represent the Independent Schools in various sports. Many went on to represent the Sunshine Coast and subsequently Queensland. There are 2 Representative age groups 15 years and Open. 1. Independent Schools District Rep - Students can be selected to represent the Independent District (a representative team from 10 other Independent Schools). Teams compete at the Regional Championships for the Independent District. 2. Sunshine Coast Regional Rep - Students are able to be selected in the Sunshine Coast Regional team to compete at the Queensland Schools Championships. 3. Queensland Rep - Students can then gain selection form these Championships to compete at the Australian Schools Champs for Queensland Schools. Selection is available to all 13,14,15,16 and older students in Cross country, Athletics and Swimming. All other sports are generally for students turning 15 or older. Selection is available in Netball, Boys and Girls Tennis, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Football, Rugby Union, Boys and Girls Touch Football, Boys and Girls Hockey, Triathlon, AFL, Softball, Rugby League and Cricket We will endeavour to get as many students as possible to the selection trials, but numbers are occasionally restricted at trials, in which case, a decision will be made by the Sport Department as to who will attend. Please keep checking the website, social media for dates and times of selection trials for Independent District selection

9 Co-curricular SPORT The College has a very full Co-currcular Sport Program for students to engage in activities throughout the Co-curricular Sport is considered any Sport that takes place before school, after school and / or at weekends. Secondary students are encouraged to get involved in a wide range of activities and opportunities at various times throughout the Year. 10 Basketball St Andrew s competes in Basketball in 2 separate competitions Club season Term 2 Basketball is one of the very first sports to start their season and you can sign up to play for St Andrew's. In 2018, we are delighted to be playing this year at the Maroochydore Clippers in a much larger competition. Other schools include in this competition are Matthew Flinders Anglican College and Sunshine Coast Grammar School The competition takes place on a various evening and plays through Term 2. 11 St Andrew s compete in 2 competition throughout the year 1. Club Competition After a wonderful 2018 season - we are delighted to see the return of St Andrew s Football Club in There are exciting times for the Football program as we look to evolve, grow and thrive. The club will play in the Sunshine Coast Federation Competition which plays each Saturday morning in Term 2 and Term 3. Last year was absolutely superb and we are looking to enter teams U12 and older age groups. We are also looking to nominate a number of Girls teams and build on the wonderful enthusiasm shown by our players. All students from Year 7 and older are welcome to nominate to play for St Andrew s Football Club in 2019.For more information contact Zach Jones zjones@saac.qld.edu.au 2. Schools Competition Our Secondary students play in the Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Competition. The Year 11 and 12 students compete in Term 1 Year 6-10 Football teams play in Term 4. Uniform: Students are required to wear long red College socks, shin guards and boots. Playing shirts will be provided (these are to be signed out from the Uniform shop) All matches take place each Wednesday afternoon with home games played at St Andrew's on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00pm to 5:45pm. 12 With the success of the 2018 season behind us, we are now looking forward to the first centre pass due be taken very soon this season. All our Secondary teams compete can compete in 2 competitions 1. Sunshine Coast School Netball competition The Secondary teams compete in the Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools Netball competition. This take place in Terms 1 and 2 at Fisherman's Road Sports Complex, Maroochydore Netball is one of St Andrew s most popular sports and it is wonderful to see so many students wearing the Red Dress is on its way and we are keen to get even more of our girls out on the courts representing St Andrew s, enjoying sport and building friendships. Girls are also encouraged to enter teams in the Coolum Netball competition in Terms 3 and 4. The College also enters teams in various carnivals around South East Queensland. 2. Coolum Netball competition in Term 3 and Term 4 in the Coolum District Netball association Junior Fixtures on a Thursday afternoon/evening commencing in July For all information and any queries please contact Jane Cooksley jcooksley@saac.qld.edu.au

13 St. Andrew s RUGBY 2019 There are 2 opportunities for our Secondary students 1. Saints Rugby Club Saints is a community club and competes in the Sunshine Coast Junior Rugby Union competition alongside clubs such as Noosa, Maroochydore, University, Maleny, Eumundi, Brothers and Caloundra and two other schools, Matthew Flinders and Sunshine Coast Grammar. This is open to all Year 7 - Boys and Girls! The competitive season this year will begin for the College on the first Saturday in Term 2. The season concludes towards the end of August with a break during the June / July holidays. The games are played each Saturday morning and could be played from anytime from 8:00am and 1:00pm at a variety of venues from St. Andrew s to Caloundra. 2. Schools Rugby 7 s and 15-a side Takes place in Term 2 and we compete in the Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools Rugby competition. Matches are played each Wednesday afternoon from 4pm. 14 St Andrew s Surfing for our Secondary students continues to grow and evolve. Students and families are encouraged to get involved and can register their interest here: There are a number of opportunities in Term 1 and Term 4 Intermediate squad Every Tuesday at 6.00am. Mobile location. Must provide own craft. This squad is for surfers who are in Years 7 to 9 and are at an intermediate level. Surfers in this squad are expected to be confident in surfing moderate conditions (head high waves) on an open beach with no assistance. Students must bring their own board. A High Visibility rash shirt is provided. The cost of this squad is $40 for the term. Gurfers (Girl Surfers) Every Wednesday at 6am. Mobile location. Must provide own craft. This squad is available to all girls in secondary who are at an intermediate level. Surfers in this squad should be confident surfing on an open beach in calm to moderate conditions. Video analysis is a primary focus for this squad and is used to improve technical performance. Girls in this squad are also encouraged to attend the intermediate surf squad and yoga sessions. Students must bring their own board. A High Visibility rash shirt is provided. The cost of this squad is $40 for the term. Advanced squad with Dean Brady This is the premier surf squad for the college designed to fine tune the competitive surfer. Surfers must submit an application to aaustin@saac.qld.edu.au to be included in this squad. With a High Performance approach coupled with video analysis this squad will also include surf specific strength and conditioning training to balance out the program. The cost of this squad is $120 for the term. All squad locations/times are updated the day before the squad is scheduled on the St Andrew's Surf Team facebook group. 15 Welcome to the St. Andrew s Tennis Academy 2019 Our Secondary Tennis Program continues to thrive and all students are able to join squads as well as have private lessons. The College enters a number of competitions including: Noosa District Tennis competition Sunshine Coast Schools competitions in Term 2 There are also friendlies and trips each year. All coaching classes in Term 1 will start the week beginning in Week 1 Please contact Glenn Irwin if you have any queries All new players are very welcome Could all existing academy members please confirm via tennis@noosasprings.com.au or telephone their intention of continuing in the program and confirm the preferred day. St Andrew s Equestrian has grown and evolved over the last 2 years and is now very popular Equestrian Club is starting in Term 1 Term each Wednesday after school at the Equathon Horse Riding centre just 7 minutes from school. You can learn to ride or enhance those skills and join the St Andrew's Equestrian team! Please liaise direct with Equathon to confirm this. Register to secure your spot with Rebecca via rebecca@equathon.com or phone Equestrian Team St Andrew s has an Equestrian team which competes at a number of events throughout the year and all riders are very welcome to get involved. 17 There are a number of great opportunities in AFL at St Andrew s. The College Open Boys team competes Sunshine Coast AFL competition which takes place in Term 3 and involves eight Sunshine Coast Schools. This is also the AFL Senior Competition for Years 10, 11 and 12. The College also compete in the Queensland Schools Cup which are day Carnivals for Year 7 and older. 18 There are 2 aspects to St Andrew s Cricket in The Secondary School Interhouse Cricket T20 Queensland Cup TERM 1 U15 and Open 20/20 Knockout Cricket competition For more information please jscott@saac.qld.edu.au

19 Students in Year 7-10 are able to opt for Sailing during their Sport afternoon. The activity takes place at Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club on the Noosa River. No experience is necessary and this opportunity is available in every Term. Teams are also nominated to compete in the Sunshine Coast Schools Champs held in May each year. Students are also encouraged to contact Noosa Yacht club for information on holidays camps and additional opportunities to further enhance their Sailing. For more information contact Mr Brad Spring

20 Over recent years four students have gone on to represent Australia and St Andrew s has awarded Sunshine Coast Champion Water Polo School for the past three years. More importantly Water Polo attracts over 140 players from Year 6 and up and the level of participation is superb. The Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools Water Polo Competition takes place in Term 3 and Term 4 The competition is divided into the following divisions: - Junior Teams - Year 6/7/8 Girls and Year 6/7/8 Boys - Intermediate Teams - Year 9/10 Girls and Year 9/10 Boys - Senior Teams - Year 11/12 Girls and Year 11/12 Boys The competition will take place each Monday evening Games will be played at both the Noosa Aquatic Centre and Kawana Pool. 21 St Andrew s competes in the Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools Volleyball competition in 2019 Year 7-10 teams compete in Term 1 Year 11 and 12 teams compete in Term 2 Teams will also compete at the Queensland Schools Championships The competition will take place each Wednesday afternoon. Home games will be played at the College and buses will be provided for away games. Matches take place at 4.00pm and 4.45pm. Uniform - Volleyball shirts will be provided. 22 Touch Football at St Andrew s is one of the most popular sports with nearly 250 students representing the College each year. The College competes in the Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Competition that takes places each Wednesday at 4pm. Our teams compete against the Independent District Schools on the Sunshine Coast in Term 3 each year. There are 3 categories Year 6,7,8 Boys and Girls - Juniors Year 9/10 Boys and Girls - Intermediates Year 11/12 Boys and Girls - Seniors In 2018 the College entered 27 Touch teams playing each Wednesday The College also competes in two major tournaments: Sunshine Coast All Schools Championships Queensland All Schools Championships To find out more about Touch Football at St Andrews, please contact Hayley Rogerson. hrogerson@saac.qld.edu.au
