2 The Athletic Endowment Fund provides donors with the unique opportunity to assist the West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics with a gift that will provide support in perpetuity. Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer. - Pat White The primary goal of the Athletic Endowment Fund is to satisfy the expense of all 350 athletic scholarships through the ongoing establishment of Athletic Endowments. To fully fund all 350 scholarships each year, the principal balance of the Athletic Endowment Fund needs to exceed $225 million. Each contribution to a current and/ or newly created endowment brings WVU Athletics that much closer to fully funding all 350 scholarships. Endowment contributions enable WVU Athletics to utilize unrestricted dollars generated by the Annual Fund / Season Ticket Priority Program for other outstanding needs across all varsity sports. Gifts to the Athletic Endowment Fund matching or exceeding $50,000 are payable over a maximum five (5) year period of time.

3 Without the help and support of the Athletic Endowment Fund, I would not have had the chance to compete for one of the best universities in the country. - Andy Bevin, Men s Soccer The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics awards a total of 350 athletic scholarships, the maximum number of athletic scholarships per sport as allowed by the NCAA. The average annual cost to providing these scholarships exceeds $8.75 million. The current Athletic Endowment Fund has a principal balance of approximately $31 million and generates a small portion of the athletic scholarships cost, funding an average of 50 scholarships each year or approximately $1.25 million. The remaining 300 scholarships are funded using monies generated through the Mountaineer Athletic Club s (MAC) Annual Fund / Season Ticket Priority Program. By supporting any of the available opportunities in the Athletic Endowment Fund, you will play a vital role in WVU Athletics commitment to its current and future student-athletes academic achievement, competitive success and personal growth. Your generous support will be a major contribution to the ongoing improvement of WVU Athletics, forever.

Outside of athletic practices and competition, each student-athlete has community service and media obligations, which consume his or her schedules that are already full of academic requirements. An endowed scholarship helps provide a student-athlete with the opportunity to commit to his/her efforts of being successful in the classroom, in competition, and in the community. Your investment will be honored in perpetuity and the endowment will be forever named in the designation of your choice. Establishing an endowment listed on the following pages will help provide financial assistance towards the annual costs associated with scholarships.

5 WVU Position-Specific Endowments A minimum gift of $500,000 is required to establish a named scholarship for a specific position (i.e. running back and point guard) on the WVU football or men s basketball team. A gift of $250,000 provides you with the opportunity to name a scholarship for a specific position in all other varsity sports offered by WVU (Volleyball, Baseball, Rifle, etc). WVU Football & Men s Basketball Position-Specific Scholarship $500,000 WVU Varsity Sport Position-Specific Scholarship $250,000 Sport-Specific Athletic Scholarship Endowment A minimum gift of $100,000 endows a named sport-specific athletic scholarship. You will have the opportunity to designate the endowment for one of the 18 varsity sports at WVU. Establishing this endowment will help support a student-athlete in the sport of your choice forever. Sport-Specific Athletic Scholarship $100,000 Unrestricted Athletic Scholarship Endowment A minimum gift of $50,000 will establish an unrestricted named scholarship that will help provide financial assistance towards the WVU varsity sport with the greatest need determined by WVU Athletics. Your gift will contribute to a variety of WVU varsity sports and student-athletes over the life of the endowment. Unrestricted endowments provide the most diverse support offered by the Athletic Endowment Fund. Name Unrestricted Athletic Scholarship $50,000

9 How Endowments Work Gifts to the Athletic Endowment Fund are a perpetual, self-sustaining source of permanent support for WVU Athletics and its student-athletes. Each year, a portion of your endowment s earnings are used to support WVU Athletics, while the principal is retained for future growth of the endowment. As a result, it is imperative that the endowment grows its investment assets at a real (inflation adjusted) rate that is sufficient to support the rising costs of student-athlete scholarships while reserving the important purchasing power of the endowment for a lifetime of giving. From an investment perspective, the endowment s funds are pooled, or commingled in a manner similar to a mutual fund. The pooled investment fund is managed by professional investment managers and overseen by the WVU Foundation s Investment Group. The WVU Foundation utilizes unitized investment accounting, which permits individual endowment funds to retain their identity, while sharing proportionately in the earnings of a commingled investment fund. As a result of this pooling of funds, the endowment s investment portfolio is broadly diversified across many asset classes and among many investment managers, thus reducing the volatility while maximizing performance. Contributing to Established Endowments The opportunity to contribute to the Athletic Endowment Fund is open to anyone. The Athletic Endowment Fund is designed to benefit WVU Athletics, and all contributions, large or small, will make a significant contribution toward our goal of endowing all 350 athletic scholarships. 11 Gifts to the Athletic Endowment Fund are processed by the WVU Foundation, Inc. [501(c) 3] and are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Gifts to an endowment are awarded two (2) Priority Points for every $100 received in the current giving year. Gifts to the Athletic Endowment Fund do not count towards annual giving requirements for priority seating and/or parking. 12 Ways to Make a Gift to the Athletic Endowment Fund: Check/Money Order Checks and money orders should be made payable to WVUF-MAC. Credit Cards The WVU Foundation accepts all major credit cards including MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Securities Donors may make charitable contributions of securities via electronic transfers and physical stock certificates. The donor receives a gift receipt detailing the gift value at the average of the high and low price of the securities on the date the transfer is completed. Matching Gifts Many companies will match your contributions to the Athletic Endowment Fund. Submit your company s matching gift form with your contribution. Planned Giving and Bequests Donors may use deferred gift vehicles to establish named endowed funds. Deferred or planned gifts such as bequests, income producing gifts, life insurance and retirement assets can also be used to establish an endowment in the future when the gift is received. Gifts to the Athletic Endowment Fund can be completed over a time period approved by the Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC). The MAC and the WVU Foundation work with each donor, on an individual basis to tailor the type of asset used and in preparing the donor s preferred selection criteria for the administration of each endowed scholarship. The parameters of the scholarship are defined in an agreement document signed by the donor and the WVU Foundation. Working with a MAC staff member is the best way to ensure that your endowed scholarship helps the student-athlete, varsity sport program, administrative or coaching position of your choice at the University.
