Age requirements for the royalty positions are: Dairy Princess: girls age Little Miss Dairy Maid: girls age 5-8 Dairy Ambassador: boys age Little Sir Dairyman: boys age 5-8. 3 Sweetheart Ball Sunday, February 25th 4:00-6:00pm Pearson Center Ever wonder what the Sweetheart Ball helps fund? Money that is raised helps to assist Jackson County 4-H ers who are attending the Citizenship Washington D.C. Focus Trip. The week long adventure allows 4-H ers to experience leadership and citizenship on a higher level. Trip highlights include the Flight 93 Museum, Gettysburg Battlefield, Capitol Hill, Smithsonian Museum, Mount Vernon and the Holocaust Museum. Youth will also meet with the Iowa Congressional and Senate delegations to discuss legislative issues. Besides tours and workshops, 4-H'ers will have time for socializing and meeting new friends! Sweetheart Ball Candidate names are due to the CEO by January 25th! CWF: Citizenship Washington Focus Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a 4-H leadership program for high school youth (grades 9-12). Every summer teens from across the country gather at the National 4-H Conference Center, near Washington, D.C., to learn what it means to be a strong leader in their community, country, and world. The week s field trips will tentatively include: Mount Vernon Arlington National Cemetery Capitol Hill visits with elected officials daytime or nighttime visits to many monuments and memorials Washington National Cathedral or Smithsonian National Zoo an evening out for Iowa delegates (theatre production or MLB game) our own day on the National Mall to visit Smithsonian Museums and possibly the US Holocaust Memorial Museum Deadline to register is Friday, January 10, Space is limited to first 50 delegate registrations. Trip cost is $1700. This includes all lodging, travel, tours, and a majority of meals. A $600 non-refundable deposit is due at time of registration. 5 Take a Look! Loans, Scholarships, & Awards H Scholarships The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced applications are now available for its 4-H scholarship program. Approximately 90 scholarship opportunities valued at over $100,000 will be awarded. A list of applications for the 4-H Scholarships are now available online through the Iowa 4-H Foundation at All applications are due online February 1st State 4-H Recognition Opportunities Recognition in 4-H is an acknowledgment and affirmation of the personal growth of an individual. Recognition in 4-H includes encouragement and support for learning and comes as a result of participation in educational experiences. Information is available for the following opportunities: National 4-H Conference, National 4-H Congress, State 4-H Council, State Project Awards, National 4-H Dairy Conference Visit to see what may be available to you! All applications are due online February 1st. State 4-H Recognition Day is March 24th on the ISU Campus. DuPont Pioneer Seed Grant for 4-H Club Community Improvement Projects The objective of these grants is to stimulate local 4-H clubs in Iowa to plan and carry out community improvement activities by providing seed money needed to make the projects successful. Funding has been secured to offer DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants for the H year. Applications are due to County Extension and Outreach Offices by Jan. 16, Visit for application instructions. Recognition goes to all the 4-H members who participated in community service events this holiday season! Jackson County 4-H clubs made donations, adopted families in need, participated in the Christmas Star program, went caroling and delivered fruit baskets, and many other community projects to brighten the holidays of those less fortunate. Thank you 4-H members and families for your generosity! 6 JACKSON COUNTY EXTENSION IN-VIEW Farm Bureau Farm Equipment Safety Certification Course Beginning January 14th 8 week course held Sundays, 3:00pm-6:00pm at the Jackson County Farm Bureau Office For Youth Ages 12+ Cost is $15 Sign-up deadline is January 8th Students are required to have 24 hours of classroom time and to pass a driving test to pass the course. Students who complete the course will receive a t-shirt from the course sponsors.
