2 School Mission- The community of Glenroy West Primary School works in partnership to inspire every child to do their best and encourages them to grow and achieve excellence School Vision - Inspire, Grow, Achieve Curriculum Day- Professional Learning for Staff On Monday 29 th February all staff attended Moonee Valley Racecourse and were involved in professional learning regarding our Powerful Learning with other Network schools. The professional learning will be shared back in schools to address teacher practice and improve student outcomes. It is an exciting project and includes Victoria University Post graduate Student teachers who will be attending schools for the year to learn their practice and undertake theory. Glenroy West Primary School will oversee six Student Teachers who have been assigned to teams across the school. What is the PYP (PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME) The International Baccalaureate IB- Primary Years programme is for students aged 3-12yrs. The PYP prepares students to become active, caring lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer both within and beyond the classroom. The PYP presents schools with a complete plan for high quality, international education. It provides schools with a curriculum framework of essential elements such as knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and action that young students need to equip themselves for successful lives, both now and in the future. Schools work with the five elements to construct a rigorous and challenging primary curriculum for international education. The curriculum is transdisciplinary, meaning that it focusses on issues that go across subject areas. The PYP is organised to include 1. The written curriculum, which explains what students will learn. 2. The taught curriculum, which sets out how educators teach the PYP 3. The assessed curriculum, which details the principles and practice of effective assessment in the PYP. School Council 2017 Ballot papers have been distributed and the close of ballot is Monday March 7 th. Any interested parents who would like to become involved in the operations of the school and become a member of Council please speak to Pam or Eva (Business Manager) in the office. PYP (Primary Years Programme)-Professional Learning for Staff Ms Joelene Kowalski is our PYP Coordinator and is currently undertaking training this year. Mr. Patrick Clarke will also be attending training regarding the Grade 5/6 PYP Exhibition. Please note both teachers will be attending PL on a weekend to complete the training. Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund (CSEF) The camps, sports and excursion fund provides payments for eligible students to attend camps, sports and excursions. $ per year will be paid for eligible primary school students. Families holding a valid means tested concession card, or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. To be eligible students need to be enrolled at the school on the 27/1/16. Forms are available from the office and applications close 03/06/2016. CAMP COOLAMATONG- GRADES 3-6 Deposits due after the holiday break in the second week of Term 2.
