1 IR Report Series Vol. 145, No. 003 September 25, 2014 Profile of Transfer Students Fall 2013 and Fall 2014 This report contains demographic and academic information for transfer students who entered the University in Fall 2013 and Fall Information is included on: Gender Country of Citizenship Full/Part-Time Status Age Range State of Permanent Address Average Credit Hour Load Minority Status County (TX) of Permanent Address Classification Citizenship Status Religious Affiliation Primary Program of Study Racial/Ethnic Group Entrance Test scores First Major Please see page 2 for a note on test score (SAT and ACT) statistics. Fall 2014 The transfer students of Fall 2014 include 195 students who entered the University in Summer 2014 or Fall Demographically, fifty-three percent (104) of the new transfer students are female, and fiftyseven percent (111) are from racial or ethnic minority groups. Students with a Baptist religious affiliation make up twenty-seven percent (53) of the group. For students with known addresses, 180 (93.8%) have Texas as their state of permanent address. Ninety percent of the students are U.S. citizens. Among students who reported a SAT or ACT score, the transfer class had a mean score of 1069 for the SAT and 22 for the ACT examination (less than 30% of the transfers had a standardized test score). Approximately 13% of students declared a major in Nursing, while 10% declared Biology and 6% were undecided. Fall 2013 The transfer students of Fall 2013 included 226 students who entered the University in Summer 2013 or Fall Demographically, fifty-eight percent (131) of the new transfer students are female, and sixtynine percent (155) are from racial or ethnic minority groups. Students with a Baptist religious affiliation make up eight percent (18) of the group. For students with known addresses, 209 (93.3%) have Texas as their state of permanent address. Ninetytwo percent of the students are U.S. citizens. Among students who reported a SAT or ACT score, the transfer class had a mean score of 966 for the SAT and 21 for the ACT examination (less than 30% of the transfers had a standardized test score). Approximately 19% of students declared a major in Nursing, while 12% declared Biology and 8% declared Psychology. Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness 7502 Fondren Road Houston, Texas
2 Test Score Calculations For students with both an SAT and ACT score, only one score is counted. The ACT score is converted into the equivalent SAT score and compared to the actual SAT score, and only the higher is retained. Additionally, for students with multiple SAT test scores, the highest verbal and math sub-scores (from any test date) are added to get the student's final SAT score. Prior to Fall 2007, SAT scores were reported using Recruitment PLUS. Recruitment PLUS converted all ACT scores to an equivalent SAT score, and included the converted scores in the final mean.
