During the next seven years, enrollment on both campuses rose from 8,993 to 12,602 for a total increase of 40 percent. The full-time equivalent enrollment (FTE) leveled off in 1982 and then decreased by 11 percent from 1982 to For the next eight years, enrollment rose to 17,986 students by The Providence campus, which opened in 1990, and unemployment waivers added to this growth. Through the remainder of the 1990 s, enrollment fell back to pre 1991 levels. From 1999 to 2004, FTE enrollment grew by 12 percent. From 2006 to 2009, CCRI recorded new peak FTE enrollments. The opening of the Newport County Campus in 2005 contributed to these new records. Note: Only credit enrollments are represented in these totals including off-campus and those credit enrollments in the Center for Business and Industrial Training. 4

7 First-Time Freshmen Degree-seeking, first-time freshmen enrolling in Fall 2009 answered a series of Accuplacer background questions. Information obtained from these questions provides us with descriptive, historical information useful in a variety of planning processes within the Community College. 10 CCRI Transfers Enrolling in Rhode Island Institutions URI RIC Historically, Rhode Island College (RIC) receives the greatest number of Community College transfer students followed by the University of Rhode Island Transfers to Rhode Island College increased over 29 percent from 2006 to For 2004 and 2006, the number of transfers to the University of Rhode Island (URI) were the highest on record Number of Students 10

11 Survey of Graduates For more than 20 years, a systematic study of the graduates has been conducted to determine their status six to nine months after graduation. Using only the telephone this year, the Office of Institutional Research and Planning achieved a response rate of 82.6 percent (1,143 of 1,384 graduates). The information collected from the graduates is available by each program of study. Only an overall summary is reported here. The full report can be found at Looking at the seven choices, 83 percent of the 2008 graduates are employed in some capacity. Also, 36.5 percent of the graduates are continuing their education (35.9 percent for 2007). Nearly 91 percent of the responding graduates reported they were either employed, continuing their education, or a combination of both. 12 Staff Characteristics Over 32.4% of the staff at the Community College of Rhode Island have 15 or more years of service. 13 Faculty Characteristics In October 2009, there were 330 continuing faculty members at the Community College. The majority of the faculty are female, hold master s degrees, and have been with the Community College for 15 years or more. CCRI also employs many parttime adjunct faculty members primarily to teach evening courses. Approximately 567 adjunct faculty helped the college meet the instructional needs of over 17,760 students enrolled for the fall 2009 semester. Statistics on the adjunct faculty are not included in these charts and tables. 13

Part of the mission of the Community College is to provide the citizens of the state with an open access college. In order to fulfill this mission, the Community College has attempted to maintain tuition and fees at a modest level. However, during economic recessions, state appropriation budget cuts sometimes require the Board of Governors to increase tuition at a rate needed to offset some of the fiscal rescission. This explains some of the tuition and fee increases in the early 1990 s and more recently in through From to , tuition was held at the same rate of $783 per semester. However, there was a $10 increase in fees effective with the fall 1997 semester. Beginning in through , tuition and fees climbed nearly 66 percent.
