1 Club Advisor(s) Description Meeting Frequency Art Club Lauren George Students with a passion for art gather together to make the world a more colorful place. Art club meets several times throughout the semester on Tuesdays and Thursdays but not every week. See Mrs. George for specific dates and times. Room 225 Mrs. George AVID Student Council Alyson Cochrane The AVID Student Council helps to lead and initiate AVID strategies, promote college preparedness and work closely with the AVID teachers and staff. room 308 Mrs. Cochrane DECA Dance Team Drama Club Julie McNeill & Lani Simon Rebekah Brewer Mike Jones DECA is an Association of Marketing Students who compete in marketing related events and contribute positively to our community by engaging in service projects. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. We are well known for our amazing at the regional, state and national DECA conferences. DECA membership is not limited to students in the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. The dance team will perform at select Southern Lee events and have several performances during Southern Lee's basketball games. If you enjoy learning new coreography, dancing and entertaining the crowd, then sashay to a new beat with the Cavalier dance team. Southern Lee's drama club produces two theatrical events each year. A play and a musical are usually held in the Cavalier Black Box. Current enrollment in theater courses is not a requirement but attending rehearsals, learning parts and being part of an amazing group of thespians is. Meeting frequency depends on rehersal and performance dates for the productions. 2 FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Shanna Roberts & Jessica Blackmon FBLA is a CTE organization supporting students interested in a career in business and/or finance. We work closely with the students in the Academy of Finance. Information can be found on Mrs. Robert's webpage. ncfbla.org Room 715 Mrss. Robrts Meeting dates as needed FCA (Fellowship Christian Athletes) Nate Woodruff & Lauren Strickland FCA is a voluntary service group that meets each Friday morning to hear a message from an adult leader in the school or community. Messages are based on the Bible and are designed to try and encourage teenagers and show them the true meaning of Christianity. The purpose of the group is to try and make a difference in people's lives daily and to serve the students and staff of Southern Lee as well as the community of Sanford. 7 am Friday mornings in the band room FCCLA Karin Work The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a CTE CTSO that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Culinary, Apparel and Foods courses at Southern Lee. Room 504 Mrs. Work FFA (Future Farmers of America) Carrie Womack An organization for interested in Agricultural Studies such as animals, plants and environmental issues. State competition is expected for FFA members as well as community service projects. FFA Motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve Room 239 Mrs. Womack French Club Stacia Koutroumpis French Club meets once a month. Activities include those extras that do not fit into the ninety minute academic block of class time: films, food celebrations, Mardi Gras mask-making, Christmas caroling, etc. Students DO NOT need to be in a French class to join French Club. Room 704 Mrs. Koutroumpis HOSA Jaci Watson The Health Occupations Students of America is a CTE organization for students who are interested in pursuing a carrer in health occupations. This club supports those taking courses taught by Mrs. Watson in Allied Health, CNA and want to learn about the medical field. Room 229 Mrs. Watson

3 Interact Club JROTC McIntyre McCray Thaggard The Interact Club allows students to make a real difference while having fun. Each club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. The Interact Club is an affiliate of the Rotary. rotary.org The study of ethics, citizenship, communications, leadership, life skills and other subjects designed to prepare young men and woman to take their place in adult society, evolved as the core of the program. More recently, an improved student centered curriculum focusing on character building and civic responsibility is being presented in every JROTC classroom. The Key Club is a service organization for high school students and, although the club operates under the school's regulations, it is different from other clubs. Key Club is unique because it blends service with outstanding leadership training. The projects and activities undertaken by the Key Club provide learning experiences outside of the classroom and encourages students to become involved in their school and community and is supported by the Kiwanis. Room 629 Ms. Allen Mock UN Jordan Carter The Mock UN gives students a first hand experience in research, studying and preparing for presentations about a foreign country. Open to all grades except freshman, this Mock UN is great for students who want to learn about a new culture and build lasting memories with their "team" and have the ability to meet the deadlines. Room 706 Ms. Carter National Honor Society Ruth Bivans The National Honor Society is an organization dedicated to recognizing student's academic achievement while encouraging them to develop leadership skills. Students with a 3.5 GPA are invited their junior year to apply for admittance. Members participate in various service projects working toward the betterment of their school and community. 4 National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Vicki Brown Karin Work The National Technical Honor Society was founded in 1984 to promote excellence in career and technical education, and to lift up outstanding students. Students are inducted into this prestigious honor society if they meet the academic and educational requirements for membership. Dues: $15 annually Meetings as needed Room 713 Mrs. Brown Photography Club Kevin Watson The photography club is new as of August 2015 and is designed to encourage students who enjoy photography as a hobby or possible career. Room 509 Mr. Watson Prom Committee Lani Simon & Jessica Blackmon This club is for juniors who want to give the Senior Class of Southern Lee the ultimate graduation gift an awesome prom! Students must fill out an application to join this organization. This club is well suited for students who are creative, business oriented and team players. The time commitment are monthly after school meetings with a lot of work March-May. Room 705 Mrs. Blackmon or Room 716 Mrs. Simon Quiz Bowl Donna Ansted & Robin Showalter An organization of students who compete intellectually, head to head against other high schools in our county, region and nation. We meet weekly and enjoy fun and fellowship while honing our competitive skills. We compete locally for the county title, regionally at WRAL's Brain Game and nationally in an online format. Room 329 Mrs. Ansted SGA (Student Government Association) Vickie Wilkins Southern Lee's Student Government Association is the voice of students, promoting cooperation and communication with the faculty, administration, parents, Southern Lee community as well as the social and academic life of Cavalier students. SGA officers are expected to attend all meetings, promote their grade level and establish good communication with their peers. Members may also meet with the Superintendent of Lee County Schools. 5 Skills USA Chris Nance, Martin Bryant & Dennis Regan SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. We provide educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation s classrooms. Membership is not limited to students taking Construction, Drafting and Engineering courses. Room 246 Mr. Nance Video Game Club Kathryn Reardon The Video Game Club consists of a diverse group of gamers. 6 JROTC Marksmanship Team Raiders Team Description Compete on a National Stage ( Four Nationals Championships Appearances: NM, AL) SY Ranked #3 out of 139 JROTC programs in NC and Ranked #13 out of 369 JROTC programs in NC, SC, VA, DE, MD, and D.C. Past five years, two students received full ride Marksmanship scholarship (North Dakota State University, North Carolina State Univ). During SY14-15, one Cadet was being recruited for the University of Kentucky, Marksmanship Team Compete on a worldwide stage in order to gain an invitation to the National Championship to Ft. Stewart, GA Drill Team Compete on a worldwide stage in order to gained an invitation to the National Championship to the National All-Services Drill Competition vicinity Louisville, KY JROTC Academic Team Compete on a worldwide stage in order to get an invitation to the National Championship at George Mason University vicinity Washington, N.C. SLHS JROTC reached stage Level II for five years in a row. In order to gain invite to the National Championship, we need to win Level III.
