Landis, President On Saturday, October 17, 2009, 14 members of the middle school staff walked for a cure for breast cancer. Nearly $1,000 was raised by those who braved the wind and rain to find a cure. It should also be noted that members of the girls basketball program participated in the walk and also raised $1,000 in the fight against breast cancer. A special thanks to Mr. Selvenis, Mrs. Jacobs and the staff at Thomas Holtzman who staged a Language Arts and Math Night last Thursday. Parents were able to select four, 30-minute sessions, each of which focused on the strategies, tools and methods now being used to teach our students. The Susquehanna Township Rotary Club named Crystal Hoel, 7 th grade language arts teacher, as the middle school educator of the month. It should also be noted that she returned in August, having served in Iraq during the previous year. SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS DAVID W. VOLKMAN, SUPERINTENDENT I am pleased to announce that Gabriel Mack, an 8 th grade student at the middle school, was selected as student of the month by the Susquehanna Township Rotary Club. The Key Club Pennies for Patients Campaign generated over $350 to date. Plans call for both planting a tree and making a donation on behalf of Alex McIntosh, who lost his battle with cancer in August of this year.

2 The high school band is competing this evening in the Chapter VI Championship finals at Middletown. Our student musicians are going for their 13 th first place victory (in as many years). Bennett Kriete was named high school student of the month by the Susquehanna Township Rotary Club for September. A most able academician, Bennett maintains a grade point average (GPA). PRESENTATIONS & DISCUSSIONS LOCAL AUDIT REPORT Mrs. Jill Gilbert, with Trout, Ebersole and Groff, certified public accountants, provided the school board with the independent auditors report for the fiscal year. The auditors, following the new auditing standard, established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, determined that the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of all accounts and funds (to include the remaining aggregate fund information as of June 30, 2009) and the respective changes in financial position and cash flow for the year. The school district ended the year with no addition to the fund balance. The undesignated, unreserved general fund balance, as of June 30, 2009, was $2.372,470 or approximately 5.8% of revenues. HANNA EDUCATION FOUNDATION UPDATE Mr. Dan Fuller, president of the Hanna Education Foundation, provided an overview of the Hanna Education Foundation structure and function. The Hanna Foundation Board includes a school board representative. Mr. Fuller reviewed the various funding sources for the foundation which include earned income tax credits, general and targeted contributions, along with money gained through fundraising and interest earnings. Over the years, numerous programs have been developed for students in all of our schools and are scheduled throughout the calendar year, funded by an annual program budget of approximately $25,000.
