2 The Purdue University Women in Engineering Program invites you to attend a FREE daylong event for high school seniors called Seniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue! This program is geared toward women interested in engineering. Monday, October 20, :00 am 4:30 pm. Registrations are limited to the first 250 students. The ALC Guidance Office is now accepting applications for the prestigious Wells Scholarship. This is a full tuition scholarship to IU Bloomington. Avon High School can nominate two students to progress on to the interview stage of the selection process at IU. In the past years, winners of the Wells Scholarship ranked in the top 5% of their graduating class and had an average combined SAT (Math & Critical Reading) score of Applications can be picked up in the ALC Guidance Office. Remember to fill out the Junior Day of Caring Survey in anticipation of our first Day of Caring on September 10th. This survey is located on the High School website under Resources for Parents and Students. All 11th grade students will need to complete this survey ASAP. If you have any questions, please ask your SRT teacher. Attention Juniors and eager Sophomores! Mrs. Leahy and Miss Cable are offering an Avon Oriole SAT Prep workshop. You will gain valuable test taking strategies as well as review essential math, reading, and writing skills. Pick up an application from Mrs. Leahy in 224, Miss Cable in E217,or from the guidance office today. Space is limited to the first 30 applicants! Beef up before the October 11th SAT's. Applications are due September 12th. -FREE Spanish tutoring is now available to any student currently enrolled in a Spanish class here at AHS. The Spanish Honor Society is offering to tutor students of any level during either half of SRT starting this TOMORROW. Students who are interested in free Spanish tutoring should ask their Spanish teacher for a tutoring SRT pass. Tutoring takes place in Mr.Emmons s room D201. -There will be an Avon Model United Nations meeting this Friday after school in the ALC lecture hall. We will be discussing parliamentary procedure and the different United Nations committees. See you there!

Remember to pick up a waiver from from the guidance office or print one from the high school website. -The Avon varsity football team lost Friday night. Touchdowns were scored by Darian Love, Brandon Peters, and Gabe Lakstins. Thank you to the fans for the support. The Orioles play Hamilton Southeastern this Friday night at 7:00. -There will be two call-out meetings for softball. On Thursday, September 4 there will be a morning meeting beginning at 7:30 and an afternoon meeting beginning at 3. Both meetings will take place in room D111. If you plan on participating in fall workouts, make sure you have an updated physical on file as soon as possible. -The Boy's Soccer C-team defeated Pike last night 5-2 with goals coming from Jake Lively, JP David, Ben Clore, and Jackson Morris. -The Avon JV Boys Soccer team got a road victory last night against HSE to improve to 6-0 on the season. Carlos Mendez, Amar Hadzic, and Peter Englehardt all scored for the 3-0 win. -Last night the boys' cross country team won their second straight Hendricks County championship by 32 points over runner-up Brownsburg. Will Anderson won the individual title and was joined by Alec Scheerer, Leo Merchan, Rhys Grealish, and Jacob Woodrow on the All-County team. The boys' varsity record now stands at 34-0 on the season. Ben Harmon led a 1-8 Oriole sweep in the junior varsity race as the boys won with a perfect score of 15. Next up will be the Avon Invitational at AHS on Saturday, beginning at 9:00. -The Avon Girls Cross Country Team won their 4th consecutive Hendricks County Cross Country Championship last night at Tri-West High School, sweeping the top four places and scoring only 19 total points. Scoring for the Orioles were Taylor Nicholson in 1st, Courtney Kerr in 2nd, Kate Bernicke in 3rd, Kelsie Mothersead in 4th and Lauren Heeger in 9th. Alissa Lustgarten also placed 11th. In the reserve race, Elyse Rhoades, Anay DeLaCruz, Amanda Grothen, Megan Hill, Takayla Carlton, Katy Smith and Anna Pearson rounded out the top 7, who were also the top 7 girls overall in the race. Congratulations to the Orioles on the Hendricks County 4Peat.
