FMHS - Cultivating Innovation, Achievement and Passion through a Learner Centered Environment It has been a year since FMHS developed and implemented a shared vision statement. We received lots of input from faculty, student body, parents and district staff in developing this vision and we are proud of the collective statement and know that it will have a lasting impact on our students and staff for years to come. How does our vision influence FMHS? Our vision statement serves as a guidepost or reference point for all actions and decisions. Our vision describes our purpose and values; it is to provide inspiration for both students and faculty and is the focus of our strategic plans. Current course offerings such as AP Seminar, Record of Human History and Science of Science Fiction are examples of our commitment to transforming education into a more student-centered experience that is cross-curricular, provides relevancy and is more individualized than a traditional model of sit and get. Our staff has done a great job of embedding many these practices and we have multiple programs on campus that lend themselves to our vision (business, media production, agriculture, technology education, family and consumer science, music, art, PE, KPP). We will continue to provide professional development that will equip teachers with the tools necessary to meet our vision in every classroom. Over the years, Fruita Monument has developed a culture of high expectations. So whether a student chooses to pursue a job in the workforce after high school graduation, or chooses to go on to higher education, it is critical that all our students develop the 21st Century knowledge and skills that will lead to success as adults. Registration is for is just around the corner! Please guide your student to choose a rigorous schedule. Students who took the minimum graduation course load averaged a score of 19.7 on the ACT Composite while students who enrolled in a more challenging course load to prepare them for college averaged a 22.7 on their ACT Composite. 2 FMHS offers many courses geared toward preparing our students for college. Last year, more 250 students enrolled in college level courses and programs such as Ascent, Early Scholars, High School Scholars, Technical Scholars, and College Developmental Courses. Through these programs, our students earned 1,614 college credit hours valued at $153, in college tuition. Our culture of high expectations and a rigorous course of study continues to lead the district as our students earned 650 more college credits than any other program in the district. 6 HAPPY NEW YEAR to the FMHS Community! The Winter Sports Season has resumed from Christmas Break, all teams are back in action. Find the schedules on wearefruita.com under schedules. With all the changes this year, this is where you can find schedules and sign up for alerts (they are referred to as FOLLOW TEAM. Our Spirit Teams had state competition in December and we re pleased with their performances. Wrestling, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Girls swimming enjoy your support. All teams have had successful pre-seasons. HALL OF FAME class of 2019 will be inducted on January 18, 2019 during the Grand Junction basketball game. If you know someone who should be considered for the Hall of Fame, fill out a form and make a nomination. SPORTS REGISTRATION Sports Registration is and click done online. Go to our website Wearefruita.com and click on the Registration tab. YOU CAN NOW REGISTER FOR SPRING SPORTS. Spring Sports begin February 25,2019. If you played a Fall or Winter sport, you will still need to register for spring sports. However you will not need to create a new account or start from scratch. Simply follow the link and login to your existing account; there will be an option for you to choose which student you would like to register and it will fill in the majority of your registration for you. All students MUST have the following completed to participate in any practice: online registration, a current physical (good for one year), and athletic fee $140 paid. Registration Issues: Freshman register with the high school, not Fruita 8/9. YOU MUST REGISTER BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE FOR US TO CLEAR THEM. START YOUR REGISTRATION NOW. 7 JANUARY FCCLA NEWSLETTER For , FCCLA has been focusing on our community in activities and projects. FCCLA started out the school year delivering baked goods to Fruita Monument s new teachers as a first community service project. In November, members got to know each other through a Thanksgiving heritage feast, bringing in food that represents their family and heritage, and sharing traditions. Members of FCCLA have also volunteered to run a concession stand for school sport events, which teaches valuable leadership skills that will be vital to this year s FCCLA National and State Championship projects. Club members are hard at work on STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events to present at these championships. STAR events are projects that demonstrate real world skills and advocate change. From Culinary Arts, Recycle and Redesign to Advocacy, Focus on Children, and Environmental Ambassadors, every STAR event project is important. FCCLA club members Elianna Seligman and Payton Blocker organized a kid s craft fair in December as part of their Focus on Children project, which gave kids a place to stay creatively entertained while parents did their Christmas shopping. Overall, 2018 was a great year for FCCLA and moving into 2019, members will continue to work hard on STAR events as the deadline approaches, and dedicate time to community service projects.
