All parents, relatives and friends are invited to Mass, this Sunday, 8 th March at 9.30am to celebrate the commencement of Catholic Schools Week. Mass will be followed by morning tea in the Parish House. Kindergarten 2016 Enrolments Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School is now taking Kindergarten enrolments for Please download the enrolment form from the school website complete the form and return it to the school office with all the required documentation. Families will be interviews on Saturday, May 2 by a member of the leadership team. If your child has any special physical or learning needs please make an appointment to see Mr Haskins for a more extensive interview. 2 School Fees School fees for Term 1, 2015 are now due. If you have not made a Flexible Payment Plan arrangement and your Term 1 school fee account remains outstanding, please finalise this account as soon as possible to avoid your account being transferred to the Catholic Education Office for further action Fun Run Fundraiser 13 th March 2015 In conjunction with the School Cross Country we are having a Fun Run as one of our fundraiser events for It will be held on Friday, 13th March, Sponsorship forms were sent home last week. Please assist your child/ren in finding sponsors for this event. The completed sponsorship form and all monies collected should be returned to School by no later than Thursday, 12 th March This is a Kinder to Year 6 (inclusive) event. Prizes will be awarded to the student/s raising the highest amount of monies in several categories. If you can help on the day, please contact Carina Morales on Cross Country Parent Helpers Our school Cross Country will be held next Friday, 13 th March. OLOL Parent Group Meeting The Our Lady Of Lourdes Parents group would like to extend a very warm welcome to parents, particularly new parents to the school, to attend our first Parent Group meeting on Tuesday, 10th March at 7.00pm. The Parent Group is made up of parents of OLOL whose mission is to help to assist & support the needs of our school community which include staff, parents & parishioners. One of the principle roles of the OLOL Parent Group meetings is to provide a forum for parents to raise and discuss issues related to the pastoral, spiritual, educational and social matters of their children and the school. We look forward to the opportunity of seeing some of you on the 10th March. Parents Representative Council Congratulations to Sonia Nesci, Our Lady of Lourdes PRC Representative, who was elected on to the Parramatta Diocese PRC Executive Committee for Position vacant: Receptionist St Michael s Parish at Baulkham Hills is seeking to appoint a Receptionist for the Parish Office. The Receptionist has responsibility for managing phone calls and visitors through reception as well an interesting variety of administrative duties. The Receptionist plays an integral role in providing support for the Parish by assisting the Office Administrator to provide services to the Parish community. For further information about this role and how to apply please visit the Employment section of the Diocese of Parramatta s website: Applications close Friday 13 March Planned Giving at OLOL Church Each year individuals and families contribute generously to the pastoral works and upkeep of the Church and grounds at Our Lady of Lourdes through planned giving and the second collection. This enables us to pay the bills and resource any pastoral activity with just a slim annual surplus. The percentage of donations from planned giving has been declining, and because these regular contributions provide more certainty for pastoral planning and facilities maintenance plans, we are seeking to raise awareness among the OLOL community of the importance of this form of regular donation. If you are not already a contributor to the weekly Planned Giving Program at OLOL please consider this option. New Planned Giving Envelope Packs are available at the back of the Church. You may also choose to contribute regularly by either a Credit Card Deduction (form is attached) or by Direct Debit for which you will need to complete a form at the Parish Office. Our Lady of Lourdes Registration Form includes several donation options for your convenience. We thank those who regularly support the Parish through this program and welcome those who are new to our worshipping community. Please ensure that when you take a new set of envelopes you fill out the Registration Slip in the front of the pack to enable us to record your details.

4 Catholic Schools Week Catholic Schools Week (CSW) will be celebrated across NSW and the ACT from the 8 th to 14 th March. The theme for 2015 is, Educating for Today and Tomorrow. This theme ties in with the 50th anniversary of the Declaration on Christian Education, 'Gravissiumum Educationis.' The document recognised the continuing need for the Church to support parents in the education of their children. Catholic Schools Week is about strengthening relationships between all those who have a stake in our schools students, staff, families, priests, parishioners, and members of the wider community by showcasing what happens in our classrooms every day. Our school is planning a number of activities to highlight the excellent teaching and learning that takes place, as well as many other exciting opportunities that OLOL provides for its students. All families, relatives and friends are invited to join us throughout the week to celebrate Catholic Schools Week This is an ideal opportunity to support our school community and learn more about the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day. 5 Religion in Year 5 Our first unit this term in Religious Education was The Parables of Jesus. We have read many parables including the Parable of the Mustard Seed, The Parable of the Sower, The Lost Sheep and more. We discovered the messages of these stories and how we can apply the message to our own lives. Our second and current unit is Lent- Practices and Promises. In this unit, we are learning about the three practices of Lent (prayer, fasting and almsgiving) and we will be exploring the themes of covenant, law and commandment.
