Whilst they were enjoying dinner, some of the parents came along to a brief information session about next year. One of the things discussed was grade 6 camp. We are very pleased to announce the exciting news that next year our grade 6 children will be going to Canberra for their very special final primary school camp experience. They will be visiting places such as The Australian Institute of Sport, Parliament House, The War Memorial, Questacon and The Australian Mint. Last Thursday night our Grade 2 students also participated in their camp night. They learnt how to play Ga-Ga (ready for grade 3), played cooperative games and did some craft activities. They finished the night by eating the pizzas and jelly they made during the day. As well as that, last Friday our Prep students had their camp experience, the Prep Breakfast. They arrived at school in their pyjamas and got to prepare their own breakfast of cereal, toast and fruit sticks. They then changed into their school uniform, brushed their teeth ready for the school day. Thank you to our teachers and support staff for the time and effort they dedicated to ensuring our students had a great night. It s these wonderful extra-curricular activities that our students get so much enjoyment out of. End of year reports Teachers are currently very busy completing end of year assessments and finalising the written reports. Reports will be available via Compass on Friday 15th December Thank you to everyone who has sent in any requests for next year. Teachers will now start working on the process of putting together the 2018 classes. Please understand that this is a very lengthy process and we take a lot of things into consideration. Therefore, once the grades have been completed we are not able to make any changes. We are also currently finalising our staffing. The students in grades 1-6 will meet their teacher for next year on Thursday 21st December. Lisa Conibeer

If you are unable to attend during these times, you can complete an order form and send correct money or completed credit card details and your order will be processed and delivered to your child s classroom. We are currently using compass as our main form of communication to parents. The easiest way to ensure that you don t miss anything is to set up notifications for the Compass App. This allows the app to notify you of current news feeds, receive notification if your child has been in sick bay, parent teacher bookings and excursion notices and payments. Please ensure that you have notifications active in the settings on your phone. Notifications will also be sent to the primary address on file if we cannot send a notification to your device. Adding a Note/Approval for a future absence If your child is going to be absent from school, parents can enter notes and approvals in advance. To do this from your Home page, click on the 'Add Attendance Note/Approval' link listed underneath the name of the relevant student. This will take you to the Attendance screen, with a pop-up window to enter details of the note or approval. Parents can then select the applicable date range - in the future if required. Please leave the times as 8:00am and 5:00pm unless your child will be absent for half a day. Unexplained Absences We have a lot of unexplained absences on Compass. Please login to your child s account and update any absences. Sick Bay Notifications Previously when a child attended sick bay a pink slip was sent home with the child to notify the parents. Parents will now be notified by our Compass Portal. Most of the time injuries/illness are of a minor nature so the SMS will say child has returned to class. In this case you do not need to phone the school. 3 BOOK FAIR Altona Green Primary School will be hosting another Book Fair. On Tuesday the 21 stto the 24th of November at 2:15-3:15pm in the Library. Parents will be able to BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE! This means when you purchase a book you will get another book free (same or lesser value.) The best news is that you have the option to keep your free book or donate it to our wonderful library for all students to enjoy. So if you re looking for some extra stocking fillers then come along, there won t be any re-ordering so hurry in before all the books run out. INDIGENOUS DAY BOOK SALE Did you know that only 25% of Indigenous students in very remote areas are at the minimum reading standard, compared to 90% of non-indigenous students? AGPS students all share a passion for reading and would love to see other children be able to have collections of books to read. The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is helping make these dreams come true but they need help to raise money. AGPS is holding an Indigenous Day Book Sale on the 30th of November. For only $1 per book students will be able to purchase as many books as they like and feel fantastic knowing their small donation will be going a long way. Every dollar we get from these books will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. All students can get into the swing of things by dressing in colours that represent our indigenous heritage Yellow, Red & Black. PARENT INFORMATION SESSION ON CHILDREN WITH ANXIETY We will be running an information session on dealing with anxiety in children from a school perspective. We will identify what anxiety is. How we assist children with anxiety at school and how you can help them at home.
