3 About Me Washington State The University of Tennessee 3 years in the Puyallup School District 2 years on Mercer Island 16 th year at Cascade Ridge- GLAD Kids- Zach, Ally, and Chewie

4 GLAD I am a nationally certified GLAD Trainer. In our classroom, we use a set of instructional strategies called GLAD, which stands for Guided Language Acquisition Design. These strategies promote student cooperation, active learning, accountability, rich literacy, and the use of academic language. Looking around our classroom, some of these strategies are tangible and immediately visible. For example, the grouping of the desks into teams instead of rows is a GLAD strategy that encourages academic conversations and teamwork. Many of the charts and posters you see on our walls are GLAD strategies that help cement student learning of different concepts, promote literacy, and address multiple intelligences. There are some invisible but still important GLAD strategies in here too like the expectation that at all times students will show respect, solve problems, and make good decisions. We will use GLAD strategies throughout our day and throughout our year, so expect to hear more about GLAD from your child and in my communications!

9 Absences If your child doesn t feel well, please keep them home where they can get well and avoid spreading germs. If your child is absent, please call or both the office and me. I d be happy to send home homework with a sibling or a neighbor if you request it.

22 Purple Sheets & Friday Folders Communicates what kind of week your child had in terms of getting homework turned in on time and with their name on it Read it Sign it Send it back to school Look for them! Friday Folders come home once a week, on Fridays. Please look through it, clean it out, send it back.

24 Homework & Planners Math most every night Math packets given on Monday, due on Thursday Finish work leftover from class time Projects* *I always give assignment sheets for projects and study guides for tests well in advance of when they are due.

25 Forgotten Things Bummer! I don t let kids call home for forgotten homework If you bring something they forgot, please leave it for them on the Forgotten Items table outside of the office.

26 Parent Volunteers THANK YOU!!! I appreciate all that you do for our classroom and our school! Volunteer Paperwork HAS TO BE DONE EACH YEAR!! Yes, even if you just come to a party, you have to fill it out. It s all online through the district.

33 Camp May 30-June 1 Parent Information Night- Feb. 6 Chaperones- We predict having 2-3 Dads and 2-3 Moms selected from each class. The chaperone drawing takes place at the Parent Meeting. Cost $240ish

34 Safety Patrol Led by Mrs. Bird and Ms. Murdock One Day (morning AND afternoon) once a week ( Monday Crew, Tuesday Crew ) Positions change each month for variety Scheduling papers went home today with student due back September 20 th MANDATORY meeting September 20 th 1:30 to 2:15 to learn expectations and POSITIONS Students will be required to sign an agreement on expectations and held to those expectations all year! Please read ALL paper work CAREFULLY!
