Punctuality Arriving to School on Time There is a clear link between attendance and attainment; the more time a pupil spends in school the more likely they are to improve their opportunity to fulfil their full potential. Gets the day off to a good start with everyone in a positive frame of mind Helps your child make the most of their learning and sets positive patterns for the future Helps children develop a sense of responsibility both for themselves and for others Helps your child make and keep friends. Improves self-confidence Being frequently late for school adds up to lost learning: Arriving 5 minutes late every day adds up to over 3 days lost each year Arriving 15 minutes late every day is the same as being absent for 2 weeks a year Arriving 30 minutes late every day is the same as being absent for 19 days a year Develop Positive Lifelong Habits Arriving late to school on a consistent basis can have longer-term academic effects. If showing up late to school becomes a habit, students may develop the notion that tardiness is acceptable behavior. This belief can negatively impact their future work ethic and employment opportunities. Alternatively, showing up on time to school every day can help students develop of the habit of being punctual with important commitments. This habit can serve students well through college and into their future careers. Student of the Week. Congratulations to Lily for always giving 100% to everything she does. 2 How You Can Help Be Organised and Ready for School Get everything ready the night before (e.g. school uniform, Take Home Reader) Allow plenty of time to get to school Make sure you eat breakfast so your body has fuel to get you through the day Organise your homework the night before and pack your bag Have a good bedtime routine Make sure you get enough rest and are not distracted by too much time on the computer or watching TV Set an alarm clock and bounce out of bed! Students need to be at school where possible, by 8:45 to allow them time to organise their belongings and get their home readers, pencil cases and books on their desks, ready to learn by 9:00am. 3 Wow!!! What an incredible week of adventure and learning we ve had. Last Friday we had an amazing Music session with visiting teacher Mrs Christine Cussen. Mrs Cussen is an experienced Music teacher, who came to our school to work with the children and teach them about rhythm and beat, using a variety of interesting percussion instruments. We also learnt to play a few chords on the Ukulele and there was much singing, laughing and dancing which resonated through our school. Thanks Mrs Cussen

4 What an incredible partnership our school shares with our local community. We were very privileged to be invited to join the local community to share with them in celebrating Australia s Biggest Morning Tea on Monday 8 th May. As Principal of the school I was extremely proud of the way in which our students conducted themselves. They sang the National Anthem beautifully and recited our school pledge with pride and enthusiasm. We then partook of some incredibly delicious treats prepared by the ladies. Many thanks to all for the kind invitation.

5 We have been working very hard in Maths over the last two weeks, learning all about the value of money. Each year level has been learning at their respective level of development and understanding. Level 1 Recognise, describe and order Australian coins according to their value Count and order small collections of Australian coins and notes according to their value Level 2 Represent money values in multiple ways and count the change required for simple transactions to the nearest five cents Level 3 Represent money values in multiple ways and count the change required for simple transactions to the nearest five cents Level 4 Solve problems involving purchases and the calculation of change to the nearest five cents with and without digital technologies Level 5-6 Create simple financial plans Investigate and calculate percentage discounts of 10%, 25% and 50% on sale items, with and without digital technologies TOP EFFORT Student Representative Council Congratulations to Lauren on being elected as our SRC President Student voice is a key component of the Education State vision. The Framework for Improving Student Outcomes encourages schools to make student voice a priority and to empower students to fully and proudly participate in school life. Student voice acknowledges that students have unique perspectives on learning, teaching, and schooling, and should have the opportunity to actively shape their own education. Student voice is students actively participating in their schools, communities and the education system, contributing to decision making processes and collectively influencing outcomes by putting forward their views, concerns and ideas.
