8 What can I do as a parent? to read to you or younger siblings to speak in full sentences (discuss the news/programmes with him) to cook, wash, shop. Don t do everything for him. Encourage your son to talk about his problems to pick up activities he can succeed in and enjoys to eat healthily, sleep 7-8 hours, exercise, drink plenty of water

9 What can I do as a parent? Agree a revision timetable. Find your son a quiet space to work or make some space in the kitchen/dining room. Teach your son some simple breathing exercises.

12 How to structure 1-2 hours revision time: Pomodoro style 1. Select a task. 2. Set a timer to 25 minutes. 3. Work until the timer goes off. 4. Take a 5 minute break. 5. Set the timer to 25 minutes. 6. Go over the work done so far, then move on. 7. Work until the timer has gone off. 8. Take a 5 minute break. 9. Repeat for another 2 rounds. Then take a longer break.

21 Top tips from the examiners: Be more evaluative in the D) questions in order to achieve the highest marks Improve stamina It was noted by the examiners that pupils dropped marks through not completing the papers in the given time to an adequate standard Pupils need to revise more thoroughly for the Judaism paper, especially in their use of technical language/key words

22 How to best revise/prepare for RE: Revision cards/mind Maps for each topic/unit. Keep glossary up to date and learn your key words Highlighting key passages/sources of wisdom and authority Practise answering exam questions under timed conditions (1 minute per mark)

33 Top tips from the examiners: Improve stamina by completing past papers Students dropped marks through not completing the papers in the given time. Often student response was limited in the literature paper because they did not have a memorised bank of quotes to refer to. Students need to revise their set texts thoroughly, especially A Christmas Carol where the quotes are difficult to remember. Remember in English it is all about the writer s craft and the effect of language. Make sure your response is analytical and not just feature spotting.

42 Top tips from the examiners: Students are not reading the entire question and making assumptions. Revise the key terms concerning how science works, these are common to all 3 specialisms Find these on the first 3 pages of your knowledge organiser. The more questions you answer the higher your grade therefore knowledge recall is essential. Make sure you know all the required practicals and can write out a method for each one.

46 What will happen between now and the GCSEs? The intervention plan After every data drop, students receive a sticker with their target grades, predicted grades and an indication which subjects they need to improve their grades in. 6 th form students will tutor in a range of subjects every Tuesday morning (up to 16 students will be selected at a time based on target grades and predicted grades). During form time, form tutors will work with their form groups on study skills and exam techniques, interview preparation, how to fill in an application form, as well as revision for English, maths, science, RE and MFL.

47 What will happen between now and the GCSEs? The intervention plan continued During form time, a group of up to 16 students will receive subject intervention for 3-4 weeks delivered by one of the form tutors (form tutors are specialists in RE, science, maths, English, art and MFL) based on target and predicted grades. Students are invited to attend the Engine room every Tuesday after school. This is a quiet space to complete revision, supported by Mr Mensah and Ms Kohls. Computers will be available in the room.

48 What will happen between now and the GCSEs? The intervention plan continued If a student attends all lessons, works hard in lessons, completes all his homework, sets up and follows a revision timetable and asks for help as soon as he is unsure of a concept, no further intervention should be required. Students who are not making expected progress, despite working hard and doing all of the above, are invited to attend subject booster sessions. Each subject booster will run for two weeks after school (timetable to be published before October halfterm).

49 What will happen between now and the GCSEs? The intervention plan continued Students who are not required to attend a subject booster class are able to attend a range of after school workshops offered by their subject teacher (e.g. Music Monday after school, Geography Tuesday after school, Art and German Friday after school). A timetable of workshops will be published before October half term.
