1 Volume 17 Issue 18 Newsletter date: 22/01/16 Dear Parents & Carers, Improving our outside play space is one of our School Development Priorities In the Autumn Term some of our fantastic (or mad?) staff trained hard to compete in a local Rough Runner race. They spent four hours running on a Saturday morning, getting very cold, wet and muddy, but they were able to raise an amazing With this money they have very kindly paid for a Perspex roof and windows for our Den bus, lorry and camper van. At the same time, Samuel R s parents and grandparents very kindly donated 300 and with this we have just bought the first steering wheel for the Den bus! Now the pupils can use the Den all year round, even when it is windy and rainy. It gives them space to chat, play and chill out. Thank you to all of the Rough Runners & Samuel s family for making our High School playground so exciting to use. Next time you are in school, walk to the High School corridor and take a look. You are welcome to go and explore the Den if you haven t already seen it or watch CBBC on Saturday 30 th January at 8:30am to see the Lancasterian episode of the Dengineers see our pupils building our den!! More fundraising??? In November, Daniel W & Samuel R attended a fundraising lunch in Manchester. They went and spoke to a group of 40 people. The lunch was organised by a group called the Red Sea Pedestrians. Each year they raise money for a charity that they feel is doing good work in the local community. The charity they picked was Friends of Lancs. They wanted to help us make our Primary Playground fun and easy to access for all of our pupils. We heard this week that they raised 35,070.93!!! This money is to be donated specifically to the redevelopment of the Primary (KS1 & KS2) playground! This will make a huge difference to the quality of play and experiences our younger pupils can have. I would like to say a huge thank you to Anthony and the other trustees of The Red Sea Pedestrians. We will be inviting them in to assembly so the pupils can say thank you soon. Executive Head Teacher:

Stars: Alex Millington For sharing his news about his new baby sister and using his Big Mac. Galaxies: Mia Isaaksson For trying exceptionally hard at new things, such as Tag Rugby and in her new Reading group. Planets: Ethan Owens For being kind and helpful, being a good friend to his class mates. Comets: Stevie Tyrie For trying her best in all her lessons and an excellent driving lesson High School Pupils: Walker: Saad Javed For coping well with using his class chair and being mature. Houston: Hussein Al-Tammimi For walking independently and having a mature attitude. Wonder: Belange Lukula For working hard and having a positive attitude to her learning and having a successful Woodlands visit. Class with Highest Attendance Sunshines 99% Whole School 89%

4 High School Coffee Shop It s the start of another new year and our High School pupils have already been busy preparing for this years Coffee Shop. There is a new menu for 2016 (see opposite) and more hot foods and drinks options for their customers. The Students and staff are looking forward to welcoming you to their coffee shop, we hope to see you one Friday soon. The High School Coffee shop opens at 10:30am, so be here early to get a table as we close at 11:30am.
