I hope everyone enjoyed the lovely weather over the past two weeks and had some time to relax. Term Two is going to be a busy ten weeks and I look forward to seeing our students achievements throughout this time. PRIMARY TOILETS I am very pleased to say the renovation of the primary toilet block was completed during the holidays. Such a great improvement to the students facilities! I would like to remind parents, grandparents and carers that the toilet blocks are for student use only adults are not to use the student toilets as a requirement of the Child Protection policy. Cross Country 3-6 Thur 4th May Mothers Day Stall Thur 11th May Year Four Excursion - Morisset Mon 5th- Wed 7th June Year Three Excursion Blue Mountains Wed 14th- Thur 15th June Term Dates 2017 Term 2 26/04/17 30/06/17 Term 3 17/07/17 22/09/17 Term 4 09/10/17 15/12/17 Last day for students Fri 15th December STAFF CARPARKS As notified in the last newsletter of last term, after discussions with The Department of Education s Safety and Security Unit as well as concerns raised by parents, the staff carparks are no longer accessible to parents for drop off and pick up from before and after school care. The risk to students and school users from the dangerous driving of a few parents has necessitated this decision. All parents and carers are advised they should allow additional time to park outside the school and walk their children in to before and after school care. ART CLASSES Starting next week there will be an after-school art class held at Kent Road Public School for students interested in developing drawing and painting techniques. The art class will be presented by Mrs Maggie (Jui-Ying) Holland, an experienced provider of art programs for children at various venues in the local area. If you are interested in your child participating in the lessons which will be held on Monday afternoons pm (and possibly Friday pm if there is a demand) please complete the Enrolment Form which was sent home today and return it to school as soon as possible. Class size is limited to 20 students so please do not delay. The cost is $200 for ten weeks. Lessons will commence next Monday 1 st May.

2 ANZAC DAY Thank you to all students who attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at North Ryde on Monday morning, and to Emma and Alex for laying a wreath on behalf of Kent Road Public School. Today all students attended a service at school to commemorate ANZAC Day which was also attended by Mr Gordon Macpherson from North Ryde RSL. Mr Macpherson presented a number of books to the school library for all students to enjoy which were donated by North Ryde RSL Club. Thank you Ms Hamilton for co-ordinating these two events for our students, helping them to understand and appreciate the importance of ANZAC Day. YEAR TWO ZOO SNOOZE This year s Year Two Zoo Snooze excursion was a huge success. Thank you to Ms Waddell for organising the Zoo Snooze excursions and all the teachers who accompanied the Year Two students in the last week of Term One. The students had a wonderful experience and once again teachers reported our students were very well behaved throughout the excursion and fully involved in all activities. ASSEMBLY Assemblies will commence next week. Class 1L will present an item at next Monday afternoon s K-2 assembly, and class 5M will present an item at the Years 3-6 assembly on Friday morning. KINDERGARTEN 2018 SCHOOL TOURS School Tours for parents whose children will be starting Kindergarten in 2018 have planned on the following dates: Monday 1st May Monday 29th May Monday 19th June Monday 24th July Monday 11th September 9.15am 1015am Should you have a child starting school in 2018, you are invited to join us for one of these tours. If parents have a neighbour or friend who has a child starting school next year, please pass our invitation on to them. Parents are welcome to bring their child with them. Denise Minifie Principal Kent Road Garden Club: Help wanted! Can you repair a wheelbarrow? Make a tool rack? Grow flowers? Cook vegetables from around the world? Weed bush areas? Oil tools? We are looking for parents and community members to help our garden program from Term 2. This could be a take-home job or an afternoon visit to school. All classes participate in caring for the school gardens. We are also introducing a lunchtime Garden Club, beginning with Year 3. Please let Miss Roy (2R) or Miss Lyes (3L) know how you can help - however big or small!

3 It was a beautiful clear morning as about 35 students from Kent Road Public School gathered at 6.30 am near the oval North Ryde RSL with Ms Hamilton to march in their Anzac Day dawn service. Our school leaders Emma, Alex, Darcy, Charlotte, Maulvi, Max and Lisa represented our school and held the school banner as we marched to the rose garden at North Ryde RSL. Here, we listened as local organisations spoke and remembered the many people who have been touched by war in our community. Emma and Alex then laid a wreath on behalf of Kent Road Public School. Thank you to Miss Roy and Mr Lau who also attended and to all the students and parents from Kent Road Public School for getting up early and representing our school so well. Ms Fiona Hamilton Kent Road Students getting ready for the Anzac Day march as the sun rises.

4 Members of the local community both young and old, pay their respects on Anzac Day including our local member Mr Victor Dominello. Emma and Alex laying our wreath as other students watch.
