1 DOCENT VOLUNTEER EDUCATOR APPLICATION Winter 2013 Application Deadline: April 15, 2013 We appreciate your interest in the VBMA Docent Program! Last year docents provided more than 5,700 volunteer hours, directly serving nearly 24,000 visitors to the Museum. In the galleries, docents are the public face of the Museum, with a mission to connect viewers with works of art, visitors with the Museum, and the Museum with the larger community. If you have the background and commitment necessary, and the desire to make a creative difference in the lives of visitors and residents, we invite you to apply. Docents in Training are required to attend twice weekly training sessions for 5 weeks beginning in November on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Is there any reason why this would be a problem for you? 5 VBMA Docent Application 2013 Page 5 of 5 After attending the training course and successfully completing all requirements, docents are required to attend twice monthly meetings and training sessions on Tuesday afternoons, and to annually provide 46 credit hours of service or roughly 23 tours, in addition to attending meetings, exhibition walk throughs, and doing personal research. Returned applications will be reviewed by the Education Department, and individuals of interest will be contacted for interview. Individuals not selected for interview will be notified by mail, with applications held on file for consideration in possible future docent training opportunities.
