2 From the Principal Dear families, Well another term has passed and there has been much learning both within and outside of the school. Many of the classes have travelled locally or into the city to experience either cultural or sporting activities. From plays, to art galleries, markets and supermarkets, netball carnivals and knock out carnivals. We have also hosted African Drummers, Hip Hoppers, Guide Dogs and sporting teams over the course of the term. Next term we have organised some guest speakers for the parent community. On August 21, Sonya Ryan from the Carly Ryan Foundation will be here to run online safety workshops with all the Year 5-7 children and will then return to speak to parents at 6.30 pm. Mark Le Messurier will return on September 12 th to continue his insightful knowledge on building resilient children. His talk will commence at 6.30 pm. Please mark these dates in your diary. We have lift off! Very exciting news the adventure playground construction will commence during the holidays. The expected completion date is August 24 th. There will be disruptions to the current loop pick up area during this time. Please be aware of this when planning your pick-ups or drops offs. There may also need to be several weeks to allow the area to bed down in preparation for the children to have access. Receptions Over the last couple of weeks, we have welcomed 15 new Reception children who will join the Reception classes next term. We welcome these children and their families to the All Saints Community. On the first day of Term 3 there will be a Welcome Morning Tea in the library after drop-off time and we invite all families, new and old, to attend. Reports This week the children s Semester 1 Reports will be sent home. We have adopted a new format for reports this year which we hope will be clearer and provide more information in regards to the children s learning. In particular you will note there is a change to the descriptors used to describe the level of learning. If you have any questions in regards to your child s learning please don t hesitate to contact your child s teacher. Term break Wishing all our families and children a relaxing break. Hopefully the sun will shine a little for you if you don t have the option of heading to warmer areas. Term 3 commences on Monday 23 rd July with the Year 6/7 s heading off on camp later in the week. 3 From the Director of Wellbeing From the Religious Education Coordinator It is with delight that we congratulate Father Charles Gauci on his appointment as Bishop of the Diocese of Darwin. Today as a staff we were fortunate to begin our Professional Learning on the Berry Street Education Model. The Berry Street Education Model provides schools with the training, curriculum and strategies to engage all of our students. This education initiative is evidence based, helping teachers to reinforce and sustain cognitive and behavioural change. This aims to then support our students in being engaged in their academic achievement. Staff were engaged by our presenter, Jen Colechin, who showed us brain breaks, mindfulness activities, de-escalation activities and safety focus plans. The day was extremely valuable and we are all excited to see what tomorrow holds! I wish you all a safe and restful break. Megan Lovering Playgroup is held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays in the transportable unit adjacent to the hall from 9:00-10:30am. You are welcome to join us for fun play, games, stories and making new friends. Please bring along a hat, drink and healthy snack for your child. Sue Little, Playgroup Coordinator Arriving from Malta with his family as a 13 year old, Fr Charles undertook his secondary education with the Marist Brothers at Thebarton and Findon High School. He studied for the priesthood at St Francis Xavier Seminary, Rostrevor, and was ordained at the age of 25 in St Francis Xavier s Cathedral in Fr Charles pastoral life has seen him assigned to various parishes in the Archdiocese of Adelaide including Hectorville Parish as assistant priest for five years, Woodville Parish for three years and Elizabeth North Parish for one year and then in team ministry across the two Elizabeth parishes for 11 years. In 1998 he was appointed Parish Priest of Noarlunga Seaford, a role that was expanded in recent years to include Willunga, Kangaroo Island, Victor Harbor and Goolwa. In 2017 Fr Charles was appointed Administrator of the Adelaide Cathedral Parish where he has continued to demonstrate his strong commitment to evangelising and, in particular, developing the faith of young people through the parish and through his chaplaincy in schools. This is a time for much rejoicing and thanksgiving for Fr Charles gifts as a priest and the opportunity he has been given to be the shepherd of the faithful in our sister diocese of Darwin. I know you will join me in offering your prayers and best wishes to Fr Charles on this next stage of his life as a disciple of Christ. 3

4 The visit from The Salaka Ensemble was a popular and exciting end to this term s music unit. We heard from artists all the way from Ghana. They taught us about West African culture and involved every student from Year 1 to Year 5 with dance, singing and getting up on stage with a drum of their own to play. 4
