I hope all of our families had a safe break and are now ready to return to our lovely learning environment. A few things happened while we were away: 1. The old hall s floor was fully stripped and re-sealed; 2. Again, tree lopping and removal occurred within the playground area; and NAPLAN data was analysed ready for planning for Thank you Miss Deal and Mrs McGrath I would like to publicly thank Mrs McGrath for stepping in to the Relieving Principal s role while I was on Long Service Leave. I would also like to thank Miss Deal who was the Relieving Assistant Principal while I was on leave. Both colleagues did a wonderful job! Term 4 Planner There are many events happening at Richmond Public School this term, from our Hawkesbury Dance Festival which occurs on Tuesday, 17 October to our Picnic / Party Day on Thursday, 14 December This is a very busy term and different to Terms 1-3 as the cut-off date for our Touchdown Morning Tea is half way through the term being Friday, 17 November This allows time for the engraver to work on our Voyager Medals ready for Presentation Day. Please take special note of our Presentation Day which is to be held on Friday, 8 December and our Carols on the Green Day which is to be held on Monday, 11 December. To improve the communication between the school and our families, I have attached a Term 4 Planner to this Newsletter. I hope the Term Planner will assist you in organising our school events with your busy schedules and ensure you can be part of your child s education.

2 Application for Year 7 Selective High School Placement in 2019 Parents must Apply online at Applications for entry in 2018 can be made online between Tuesday, 11 October and Monday, 13 November All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test to be held on Thursday, 15 March Touchdown Morning Tea Congratulations to the 246 students who received Touchdown Certificates on Wednesday, 20 September It was wonderful to hear that many parents, grandparents and friends were at the Touchdown Morning Tea assembly to support the students and celebrate their achievement. Just a reminder, that at the end of the year, five Touchdown Certificates must be presented to enable your child to be awarded their Voyager Medal. Storing the Touchdown Certificates in an album appears to be the safest and most secure way of keeping the certificates ready for the end of the year. Though the school has now purchased SENTRAL to track student achievement, the process of tracking students is still being consolidated. I strongly encourage families to store the certificates in an album ready for the end of the year. Thank you to Mrs Stevens who again worked through the early hours of Tuesday morning to create such a wonderful morning tea. Thank you also to Baker s Delight (Richmond Mall Opposite Coles) for their donation of pastry goods and their support of our Touchdown Morning Teas Enrolments (Reminder) Richmond Public School s enrolment numbers are at capacity point. Most classes are at Department of Education Enrolment Policy level and Richmond Public School s Enrolment Panel has had to decline many out-of-area applications. If you have a student or know of a family who intend on sending their child to Richmond Public School in 2018, please have them notify the office as soon as possible. Staff Development Day Variation The last two days of the school year are Monday, 18 December and Tuesday, 19 December Both days are Staff Development Days that are set aside for Professional Learning for all staff. However, to get the maximum use of this time, all schools have the opportunity to vary the last Staff Development Days to meet the needs of the school. On Saturday 21 October, Richmond Public School staff will be holding a Staff Development Day to replace Monday, 18 December. The Staff Development Day s Agenda included: 1. SMART Data Analysis 2. SCOUT Data Analysis 3. Aligning data with the 2017 School Plan School Planning By having the Staff Development Day early in the year it will benefit the school, staff and our students. School planning is essential to school improvement and by focussing on school planning prior to the start of 2018 the school can optimise preparation for the following three years. Richmond Public School will be closed on Monday, 18 December High School Orientation Date (Reminder) Families with students in Years 6 are advised that Public High Schools in NSW will be having their Year 7, 2018 Orientation Day on Tuesday, 5 December. Our local feeder high school, Richmond High School, will be starting their Year 7 Orientation Day (Tuesday, 5 December) at 9am. More details of the event will be sent home to students/families attending Richmond High School in 2018 in the near future. Dance-a-thon Congratulations Congratulations to Richmond Public School on such a successful Dance-a-thon. The school made over $6000 which will now go towards our gym equipment and the entrance gardens to our school office. A big thank you to the P&C Fundraising Committee on running such a successful event.

3 The Night of Notables In Term 3, Stage Three were involved in inquiry based learning with their Night of Notables unit of work. The final classes ended this program with 5/6C and 5/6R presenting their night of Notables towards the end of Week 9, Term 3. The classes worked very hard to bring parents/caregivers a night of entertainment and inspiration. Students explored the wonders from science, religion, exploration politics, the humanities and other academic fields, art, music, cinema and sport. The students found it very interesting to study individual gifted and talented contributions to our world. Classes took parents/caregivers back through time, others across the seas, and some, right here in our own backyards, to identify some inspirational people who have changed lives. Parents, as members of the press, also had an important job to do. They matched up the notable person with the student as bio riddles were performed. This unit of work was not a competition. Some students have had more parental/caregiver involvement than other students, and that was fine. The most important aspect is the journey and the learning that has taken place, the executive management of time, both at school and home, and managing necessary resources. (There are photos of the event further into this Newsletter) Regional Athletics Carnival On Wednesday, 12 September, eight students from Richmond Public School participated in the Regional Athletics Carnival at Blacktown International Sports Park. Our Junior Boys Relay Team (Kye V, Kaidan C, Curtis V and Lincoln S) finished 15 th overall. Our Senior Boys Relay Team (Jackson S, Bryce H, Lachlan W and S.B) finished in 17 th place wonderful achievements from both teams! Kaidan C also ran in the 10 Years 100m race and achieved 15 th place overall. Fantastic effort, Kaidan! A big thank you to Mrs Ward for her assistance with relay training and getting the teams ready for the event. 6 P&C News A warm welcome back to everyone after the holidays. I hope you all had a good break, have rested as well as had some fun, and are rearing to finish the year in great spirits. Our upcoming events from the P&C; Flower Stall- On Friday, 10 November we will be hosting a Flower Stall for children to purchase flowers for the class wreaths for Richmond Public Schools Remembrance Day ceremony. Christmas Raffle- Raffle tickets will go home with all students on Tuesday, 28 November. We are asking all families to make donations of different items to be included in hampers for the raffle prizes. Donations for the raffle can be left at the office. The raffle will be drawn at Carols on the Green. Carols on the Green- This year we will have some activities for the children to do. While the children are doing activities or their class performance, Mum and Dad can be purchasing some yummy traditional Christmas cakes, slices, puddings and much more. A definite date to circle on your calendar is the P&C AGM. This will be held on Monday 4th December. All positions will be open and it would be a huge added advantage to the school and the students to get as many involved as possible. We have found over time that there is the conception that being a member of the P&C means giving up a large amount of your time, however there are so many different roles to be filled and many of them only entail being available a couple of times over the entire year. P&C meetings are on Mondays 7-8pm (sharp), Week 4 and Week 8 of each term. The next meeting is Monday, 30 October All are welcome to come along, it is always exciting to see new faces and hear new ideas to keep our school the great place it is. The staff of Richmond Public School provide babysitting if required. If you have any agenda items you would like brought up, forward them on to our secretary Alisa in the front office or us on richmondpspandc@gmail.com. Once again, welcome back and enjoy Term 4. On behalf of the Vice Presidents, Anne and Douron Richmond Reminders Café is happening again this Friday, 13 October. All parents/carers are welcome to join Mrs Stevens in the Staffroom for a delicious afternoon tea. Café is on every fortnight. Group Photographs will be taken on Wednesday 18 October, If your children are in a group photograph please make sure they have all of the correct uniforms for each group photo. A note has gone home to all students outlining the groups and the uniforms required. Once the photos have been taken The School Photographer will send through proof photos that will be displayed in the front office for parents/caregivers to view and order. 5c Coin Line will be held on Tuesday, 7 November. All money raised from the lines this year will be donated to The Starlight Children s Foundation. We are encouraging all families to start collecting 5c coins ready for this worthy charity. Year 6 Interrelate begins on Tuesday, 17 October for all Year 6 students. Please make sure permission notes and payment are back to the office by Friday, 13 October.
